    Yeah, right.

If you believe that, I have some promises from our political parties to guarantee for you, too.

  3. Microsoft, the former leader on Microsoft Said To Cut Windows Price 70% For Low Cost Devices · · Score: 5, Insightful
They sat on their laurels too long under Ballmer and watched the market expand while they sat on the sidelines. They laughed at the iPhone when it first came out. Rather than putting Office on the iPad, they held it hostage to "protect" Windows. Five plus years later, they may finally do it. How much revenue did they give up there?

They chased Google with Bing. They've chased Apple with the Zune, their music store, and their Windows Phone. They put the name Windows on everything - their cloud, their phone, their ARM tablet, and their regular PC OS, even though all those products are different. They are a MESS. Good luck to Satya - he will need it.

  4. Bad argument on Windows 8 Metro: The Good Kind of Market Segmentation? · · Score: 1

If Metro is for the non-power user, then why are so many of its capabilities not easily discoverable? Yes, I really expect grandma to figure out to swipe in from the side. That's just stupid.

Most people don't realize that getting to orbit takes almost an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE more energy than getting to space (suborbitally). Given that Branson has taken 10 years to get (almost) to commercial suborbital flight, I wouldn't hold my breath for Virgin Galactic anytime soon. I suspect that running commercial suborbital operations will be more complex and difficult than he suspects, but I'm still glad he's doing it.

I mean, what the FUCK? The land of freedom and liberty. That's what I was always taught. We have a Constitution, which includes protections against unreasonable search. And now my FUCKING GOVERNMENT is doing pretty much anything you can conceive of in the name of spying on everybody including the people of the United States. They are so FUCKING PARANOID that EVERYTHING is on the table, including the privacy and liberty of the citizens. I lower my head in FUCKING SHAME as to what has become of this country.

So you want to reduce use of fossil fuels? No technology is foolproof. Nuclear has its dangers. Solar energy would occupy acres of animal habitats. EVERYTHING is a tradeoff. The best solution of all is fewer humans. Do you care to sacrifice your ability to reproduce to help those eagles? I didn't think so.

How about a more balanced view? How many eagles would really die? How does that compare to the dangers from CO2, from other technologies? What about the habitat ruined by oil wells, natural gas wells, fracking, etc.? It's really not at all as simplistic as this posting implies.

  16. One advantage of Obamacare on How Big Data Is Destroying the US Healthcare System · · Score: 5, Insightful

The ability to deny coverage to higher risk individuals has been eliminated with Obamacare, and that's a good thing. If you are filthy rich you cover yourself. If you are poor you are covered by the government. If you were middle class and had some health condition you were screwed if you didn't have employer-based insurance. It didn't take much to be denied - things like macular degeneration or asthma or hyperthyroidism would deny you. One big sickness away from bankruptcy. In the richest country in the world.
