Profits today benefit people tomorrow. Don't believe me? Ask yourself if the country you want to live in ten or twenty years from now is one with a decade or two of high corporate profits under its belt or a decade or two of dismal performance. Hell...do you want to work for a company that's making money or one that can't run two nickels together?
Why does it have to be one of those two options? How about a country where the corporations have been making a moderate profit?
I think what most people who believe raising the minimum wage should crash the economy miss is, that we are not talking about the difference between a company making money and loosing money, but rather we are talking about the difference between being dirty filthy disgusting rich and being merely dirty filthy rich. I get it, some smaller businesses will struggle with it, but the vast majority of minimum wage workers work for companies like Walmart and McDonald who will certainly not go out of business because the minimum wage goes up to $7.75 an hour.
So Google, FaceBook, Amazon and all those other companies pay someone for their connection to the internet. On the other side, I am paying for my connection to the internet. Who exactly is getting free bandwidth?
Our goal in defeating Hillary was to remove the left's hand from our throat, not to put our hand around blue peoples' collective windpipe. We don't care how they live their lives, but leftists care very much how we live ours.
Unless you are a woman who wants an abortion, or a gay couple who wants to get married, or an atheist who does not say "Merry Christmas", or don't think crazy people should be allowed to own guns. Shall I go on or have I proven my point?
I think this is just the natural cycle of the comics industry. What we are seeing is the end of the Bronze Age. The older generation of readers are dying off or moving on, all the mainstay writers and artists started in the 80's and 90's and they were new and interesting in the 80's and 90's, now they are old and stale. Just look at the state of comics in the mid 50's just prior to the Silver Age and then again in the mid 70's just prior to the Bronze Age. Comics in those time periods were lackluster and uninteresting written by people who had been writing the same stories with the same characters for a couple of decades and the readers who liked those stories were dying off or moving on.
What is needed and what will eventually happen is the old writers and artists will price themselves out of the market, retire or die and a new generation of writers and artists will emerge who want to tell new and interesting stories, creating new characters or doing fresh takes on old characters. Most importantly, these new people will know how to speak to the new generation of readers who will also emerge.
I live in a place where it's unfashionable to say certain things. The only reason it's unfashionable is because a vocal minority have deemed my speech "hateful" even though it's free.
The fact that my free speech can now get me barred from establishments is on par with the ideologies we conquered in the 20th century.
I should be able to say:
1.that abortion should/should not be abolished
2.gays can/can not marry
3. women are/are not fundamentally different than men
4. Illegal immigrants should/should not be able to stay in my country
5. Islam is/ is not a violent, hateful, and supremacist organization.
6. Apple and Macs are / are not the best computers around.
7. PCs are / are not the best computers around.
Without fear of reprisal or imprisonment. The fact that statements like this are being punished in western democracies is frightening and a sign we are in critical decline.
My question is are you asking for freedom of speech or freedom from the consequences of your speech? If you say something controversial don't be surprised when people disagree with you. I have had many discussions with many people over the years on all of those subjects and not one of them has devolved into a fist fight, not a single person has ever been put in prison for being on either side of those debates. If you are being threatened with reprisals and imprisonment for any of those items you mentioned, perhaps you should reconsider your delivery.
It is true, just like the Democratic Party of the past was in bed with the KKK, the ideology of Hitler was during its time considered left wing. However, today the Nazi party identifies with the conservative movement as does the KKK, all those white nationalists who marched in Charlottesville Va. were not there to support Hillary Clinton, they were there to support President Trump and the Republican party. The truth is, the Nazi ideology is incompatible with the modern left and aligns very nicely with the modern right.
Nope, I don't care how good it is or if its super nutritional, I am not drinking cockroach milk or eating anything made with cockroach milk. I don't care how much you sterilize it, I don't care how much you process it. There is absolutely nothing anyone can say to me that would convince me this is anything but gross.
I personally think this idea was not come up with by scientists, I think this was a bet between two marketing assholes to see who could convince stupid people to do stupid things.
I still haven't figured out how you endured the same 8 years of crap from the Obama administration (rampant corruption, back pedaling, outright lies AND selling out the US) and YOU continued sticking with him.
Perhaps you should look in the mirror.
Admittedly Obama did back pedal on on some campaign promises when it became obvious he would not be able to get them done, but other than that, everything else you said is BS. But you will probably not except that truth because you are likely one of those people who still believes Obama was born in Kenya, was a secret Muslim who attended a radical Christian church, Michelle was actually a man and they kidnapped their children.
Okay, fair enough, so explain to me why the President wants to now prop up a company that we know was illegally selling banned products to Iran? Isn't Iran the enemy? Aren't companies that ignore trade sanctions by definition bad actors? Don't we want them to go out of business as a lesson to other companies considering doing the same thing? From a geopolitical stand point, this makes no sense. But from the stand point of a Corrupt President is making money off the deal, it makes plenty of sense.
You can make all the conspiracy comments you want, but just remember, you guys are the ones who still think Hillary Clinton murdered Vincent Foster and runs a child slavery ring out of pizza joint.
There is a book called "Avogadro Corp: The Singularity Is Closer Than It Appears", where basically the Avogadro Corporation is the functional equivalent of Google and they accidentally create an A.I. via an email language optimization program.

examine what people mean practically when they extoll edge computing," focusing on latency, privacy and security, and bandwidth."
This sounds suspiciously like returning data from the cloud to my personal computer and the pendulum is swinging back again. In the 80's we had dumb terminals, in the 90's we had thin clients and then in the 2000's we got the cloud, all of these things were more or less the same thing. Dumb terminals and thin clients failed because of latency and bandwidth, the cloud will fail because of privacy and security.
every time someone says "Both parties do it!", it is usually because a Republican has done something crappy.
So, what you're saying is it's ok to do shady and dirty tricks until republicans do it.. Then it magically becomes bad and it no longer matters that your side did it first. Yep that sounds about right.
Nope, you totally missed the point. What I said was, it is usually Republicans who are doing the crappy things.
You mean implementing the Biden Rule? It wasn't the first time in history. It just happened to Democrats this time, so they raised a stink about Republicans using their own tactics against them.
There is no such thing as the Biden Rule. Certainly Joe Biden suggested it way back in 1992, but it was never presented as a serious Senate Rule, nor was it ever ratified in anyway by the Senate and in fact there was no SCOTUS vacancy at the time.
The worst you can say is Biden was hypocritical when he spoke out about the Garland nomination, but lets be honest, back then no one took any notice of the statement, not me, not the media, not the Senate and not even the GOP at time.
The fact that you brought it up at all tells me Senate Republicans had no leg to stand on and simply highlights the fact that every time someone says "Both parties do it!", it is usually because a Republican has done something crappy.
if everything else was exactly the same, except instead of oil, Iraq was one of the largest exporters of grape jelly in the world, would we have still invaded?
Because it could be another form of Windows that's not recording everything I do, installing applications without permission, deleting files without permission, etc.
A good solution to this issue is to force Microsoft to make a better product.
A bad solution to this issue is to introduce all of Windows problems into Linux.

That is because covering a practical joke perpetrated against idiots is not funny, news worthy or interesting, it is just sad.

I would be totally onboard with this if they added a Reply button and now that I think about it, a Reply to All button would be even better.

If I had the power to force Microsoft to do things, do you think I'd be hanging out here?
Actually you have more power than you think, customers can and do change how companies act, you just have to standup and do something.
