(I also love hardware, hence the plan to take a major between CS and EE). And the Marine Bio Case Study wasn't all that bad; we had some fun projects such as adding sharks in our class.
You would have loved my first job out of school. I got a degree in Computer Science and Engineering where I was able to study both hardware and software. When I graduated I worked for a company that built hardware and software for a lot of marine biologist research labs. I got to learn a lot about their work. Keep up your studies because the careers that will become available to you when you graduate are very very cool.
I agree that the IPhone is not the dominate cell phone in the over all cell phone market, but when it comes to cell phones that utilize the internet, the IPhone is by far the market leader.
This past Thursday an Apple Insider reports that "Google on Wednesday said it has seen 50 times more search requests coming from Apple iPhones than any other mobile handset -- a revelation so astonishing that the company originally suspected it had made an error culling its own data."
This is an actual conversation I had with a manager without a programming background.
Manager: The new guy (a programmer) seems to be coming in later and later
Me: What time is he coming in at?
Manager: 10 sometimes 10:30
Me: What kind of work do you have him doing?
Manager: fixing bugs
Me: aren't you guys still in the design phase? What bugs could he have to fix?
Manager: doesn't matter. he should still be here by 9.
My point: All of this points to bad management. Not disillusioned IT workers.
This is all good news for us developers. The sooner Android is available on an actual piece of hardware the sooner developers can get a better feel for how this new platform will interact outside of the current emulator.
At Shook Labs our new Android App's will rely heavily on how the platform behaves in a truly mobile setting.
My question is how many charges can these batteries take before they start to die. Do they die after 200 charges, 500? Is like my laptop batter that after a year of charging and recharging only holds a charge for 5 minutes? And how much do they cost to replace (cost + service charge)?
...your nephew or nerdy niece would probably freak over
Can we stop this! We need more women in high-tech. Girls can be interested in tech without being nerdy. Innovation requires diverse backgrounds, please reword this.
Even: "...nerdy nephew or nerdy niece..." would be better. At least its equal.
The Kiva MFS is the beginning of the next generation enterprise solutions. Many current solutions are focusing on connecting departments with the needed information in a timely and useful manner. The current systems have improved the efficiency and decreased the cost of operations by optimizing the flow of information. The next generation of enterprise solutions will need to look toward robotic and intelligent systems that optimize the way we think and operate our businesses
Electric cars only need electricity; therefore you don't need to go to a gas station. You can fill up at home or any other place that has electricity. By Tesla partnering with non "Big oil" companies, there is no conflict of interest.
Google is the keystone of the web 2.0 movement. The only web2.0 that Google fell behind in was social networking. I think most people were just waiting for Google to step in and dominate social networking too.
My comment should have been (5, funny) because Google is web2.0. It's just ironic that only now Google is truly stepping into what many think is the only aspect of web2.0.
First, I agree that this is a very good decision on their part. I also like the fact they are being transparent with their explanation to the gaming community.
But, as someone who is involved in a lot of software development efforts (as a software engineer and as project management) it frustrates me that schedule slips are becoming more and more common and acceptable for software development efforts.
Been a while since commenting in slashdot. I love dolphins so figured this was a good excuse.

Standard ML of New Jersey (abbreviated SML/NJ) anyone? http://www.smlnj.org/
:)
I love it just because of its name.
Amen to that!

These are huge numbers.
Outer Space has a Smell
...I think it was a management joke about engineers.
That's what an old manager of mine would say whenever he walked into our development lab.
Google has also included an XMPP API for developers of Android. They are also suggesting its use. http://code.google.com/android/toolbox/google-apis.html/
This is a dupe. Oh wait, I thought it read "How To Lose $44.6 Billion .." that would be this post http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/01/1353211&from=rss/
:)
My bad!
a 1.7 million difference??? ...something funny is going on. 1.7 million iphone are not being unlocked.
Its probably not being done on purpose, but probably somewhere there is an accounting flaw.

There is http://grandcentral.com/ but also http://dodgeball.com/ is another. These might be forgotten now but both might come back into play real soon once Android is available.

here here! Competition sparks innovation and opportunity for other non-established companies to come in and offer BETTER and CHEAPER services.
From the www.sheeleytech.com article:
I disagree. I was at the Hyatt a few months ago when Tesla and the Hyatt announced a partnership. Check out http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/08/30/BUKERRNPR.DTL/ for details on their agreement

Hah!
Sorry. I meant it as a joke. doesn't seem anyone got it. ...I'll stick to informative comments :)
Sorry, it was a joke. ...a bad one :)
it was a joke ;)
So now even Google is jumping into this whole web 2.0 thing?

I blogged about this on http://www.sheeleytech.com/
