just do what i do and browse at -1 then. all you have to do then is ignore the words and numbers to the right of the subject line of each post and you effectively have 'disabled' the mod system, but left it there for those that like to use it.
yes. but the patch probably won't be accepted.... if you were the project leader and the majority of the other developers disagreed with something that you were forcing onto the project, then that is where forking happens, whether it is political, technical or even personal.
i bet your little windows box can't run ardour (www.ardour.org) either. the linux version of eee can. how about development environments? i guess for playing games and a few specialty apps windows is fine, but i want to cram as much flexibility as possible in a small box... so what was your point again?
no, they were punished because they used their monopoly on one thing to push another unfairly, because they wanted to kill off netscape. they aren't punished because they sell a lot of copies of windows, and they never were.
most of the kde programs are going to be ported to windows, but not the kwin desktop environment itself. so you will be able to run amarok, kate etc in windows, but it will still look like boring old windows with the explorer shell.
yes, i think it does speak volumes. this is a product they have *complete* internal access to, and they still only find out about the fact that it is completely incompatible with another major piece of software they have *complete* access to right before official launch. it shows that they don't even test their releases against all their own software properly, let alone major software from other vendors. i would like to know how many other pieces of software are affected but not known yet. if they can't keep compatibility with an up to date copy of software they have complete control over this late in the release, how can i be sure that all the other software we use here will work properly? yes, we will of course test things before we push it out officially, but it doesn't leave me too confident.
Perhaps he's a better businessman than programmer. this reminds me of a quote of linus torvalds about gates... it was something like 'there isn't a thing i could tell him that he doesn't know about business, but there isn't a thing he could tell me about programming'
the parent was being a smartarse:) he was simulating running the 'diff' program on the two 'files' that contained the words Java and Javascript. diff is a program used mainly by coders to find the differences between two files. hence the difference between 'Java' and 'Javascript' is that one says 'Java' and the other 'Javascript':)
applications; add/remove; select an app from the list; apply changes.
you don't have to open up a term window.
try telling a true new user (not someone who has used windows for a while) to install a new program on windows. where do they begin? hint: probably not with 'internet explorer'. deb packages and rpm files are easily as 'intuitive' as window's 'download from a site, click setup.exe, put in license details etc etc. sure, they aren't yet as common, but neither are osx packages, so does that make osx packages harder to install than windows installers?
it is odd that this question came up today, as (for some unknown reason, just my mind wondering i thing) i was thinking of how to do this just last night. my thought was almost the same as yours, but i was thinking more randomly building the password with clicks and keys, eg if the password is 'dogfood' then maybe type 'g', then click to the left, type 'd', click to the right and another 'd', then click between first d and g and type 'o' etc. would be a real pain, but more of a pain to decipher, especially if you are moving windows around a lot etc. also maybe typing into 'nothingness' in between the real keystrokes may help (clicking other places that aren't the password box and typing characters there as well)
just some thoughts. i don't expect them to be foolproof thought:)
i'm not too worried. it was apple's takeover of emagic (the company who made notator and logic audio) that made me look seriously into linux audio software and find ardour. i have never looked back. i think if photoshop etc went mac only, then there will be an explosion in activity with regards to alternatives being written and maintained, both commercial and open source. all apple will do if they cut off the other platforms is lose market share. i'm pretty sure logic was about 55-45% mac-win users. not sure i believe the 'wasn't enough demand for the windows version to keep it up. photoshop especially would be a stupid thing to pull from windows for the same reason.
why the hell is this off topic?? my current job is really flexible towards what i use, but if it weren't i wouldn't be risking my job just to see cnet posts with less bling...
ok, i buggered up there, i had too many tabs open and i'm too tired and i got confused about which story i was responding too...... i'll hand in my nerd badge for a suspension if required, please don't tell anyone else about it though....:)

slightly off topic, but i thought sata was hot pluggable? i thought this was one of the reasons (apart from performance) to move from pata?
mobile browsers?
....if you are sitting about 10-15m from your speakers......
you must have a pretty big gaming setup... :)
obviously you wouldn't be using vista then...
how would that help with ODF support??

it's a solid state drive, not a hard drive.

yeah, i had to disable windows to get my audio environment working as i like it :)
(i use ardour on linux with an rme hammerfall 9636 and a focusrite saffire pro26io)

ps. this is not intended to be a flame, i'm making an attempt at that thing you guys call 'humour'

well at least i tried...
yeah, it must be good when microsoft's new tactic appears to be 'use it. please!! we'll give you free stuff!!' :)
i'm more suprised that it fits into one book. surely this is just the first of many volumes to come out?? :)
