I'm going to say that this is possibly useful to some people. Personally, I have a use for Photoshop (I know, not MS but bear with me) maybe twice a year. Does that warrant paying for it? In my mind, not even close. So what are my options? I use a lower cost and maybe lower functionality app that I'm not familiar with or I steal it. Not really great options in my opinion. I would not at all mind paying 15$ to use it for a month when I need it.
It could be useful if there are few if any restrictions on starting/stopping the service. If there's a startup fee (like an MMO's original purchase price) than it's not that great but even that could be OK if it were low enough (read 30-50$). There weren't alot of details here, but I could see this having a market.
Am I the only one who gets suspicious of an auction that's both cheaper than every other similar item listed and coming from Hong Kong. Personally, I won't buy anything on eBay from outside of the US (If I lived somewhere else, it'd be the same situation). Not that there aren't scammers here, it's just usually easier to tell who they are.
Mostly because if a player wanted to play against another player, they'd play online. Personally, the last thing I'd want is to be playing the story mode and have TeHUb4R1337GuY show up. Maybe it's just me...
Well, more profit may be their motivation but if it prevents rushing incomplete games to market, I'm all for it. I'd rather wait and pay to play three complete episodes than get one hacked up incomplete game that has an ending tacked on because they ran out of time.
I know everyone is generally against the idea of ads in games but personally it doesn't bother me that much. At this point I am completely oblivious to ads, I don't even notice them on websites anymore and when I'm in a game it's probably going to be grab even less of my attention as I'm focusing more intently on a task than when I'm just viewing a website. That said, there will surely be a limit to this tolerance. If there bright red blinking ads or "punch the monkey" billboards it might garner some attention and surely will distract from the game, but I hope this will never happen. The key here is that the ads be incorporated into the style/genre of the game. If they're blatant and annoying, users will revolt, if they're tasteful (if internet advertisers even know the meaning of this word) and it helps reduce game cost or increase game quality it might be worth it in the end.
Whether or not this will be a good first timer MMO is up in the air right now, the developer can say all they want about how great the game is but until it's in the hands of the community, we won't know for sure. I played DAOC (another Mythic title) for some time and it fell into the trappings you've described. The time and money sinks were substantial as was the requirement of each expansion, in order to stay competitive in RvR. It wasn't fun at times, but it required an enormous commitment. Those that could give the time necessary ended up as the "elite" and dominated (i.e. removed all resemblance of fun) RvR battles.
I expect much of the same from Mythic with this game, the concepts seem very similar to the PvP/RvR structure of DAOC so it doesn't seem like they're changing their formula much. I'll be checking out the progress on this one though, it has potential but the execution is all that matters.
but should he make fifty times what I do? Five hundred? Ten thousand times my salary?
He's alot more recognizable, just as he would be if he were on screen. How many people know what your voice sounds like or have good will towards you because of your previous films? I'd guess alot less than Sean Connery or James Earl Jones.
If you don't want to pay for the expansion, you can keep playing WoW all you like without the expansion pack.
I'm not familiar with this expansion because I don't play WoW but I know they are raising the level cap and unless they provide a way for current players to reach the new cap without the expansion, then it is absolutely mandatory. How long would you play if you could only ever be 10 levels behind everyone else?
that there's nothing a 16 year old gamer wants to do less than think about Shakespeare. A boring^H^H^H^H^H^Hmature concept like classic literature might actually keep the user base tolerable.
Not the best market when the people involved have no money. However, I don't doubt that the OSS community might reap some benefit from it.

Just a thought, maybe it's because contacts get dirty, scratched, corroded, and stop working? With extrememly close wireless, you achieve a "contact" point without the maintenance issues. You could be right that it's purely a hype creator, but it seems like there might be some merit to me.
a waste of time.
Solution: Problem, where are you?
I anticipate a lot of uncomfortable conversations about "boning."
When watching a movie about transforming robots from space, realistic physics is definitely what I'm thinking about..
It's called vodka.

"The changes will allow scientists to create and use embryos up to 14 days old for research."
The article failed to mention that after 14 days they will be used to create a Shaky's Pizza for each scientist!
