IMAP is great (my account still does not show it though).
Now the only thing still missing is advanced filtering capabilities, something like Sieve. Some mailing lists I'm on only identify themselves by custom headers. Fine-tuning the spam filtering would be nice too.
Once they implement it, I don't see any reason not to switch.
The House of Commons is elected by a first past the post system which inherently ignores 50% of votes. Thanks to - deliberate or not - gerrymandering, it actually ignores a majority of voters, leading to the absurd, not to mention profoundly anti-democratic situation that the country is ruled by a party that had only 35.2% of the popular vote!
We have a similar situation in Canada.
The Ontario general election on October 10 (tomorrow) will include a referendum on replacing the current "first past the post" system with a "mixed member proportional" one.
Unfortunately, the both largest parties (Liberals and PC) have been flooding the media with FUD and got most people convinced to vote against it.
Between the ignorant voting against it and the apathetic not showing up, I have very low expectations of it passing.
All invention involves borrowing or stealing from other people. There has to be a giant's shoulders somewhere to stand on...
Rome didn't exactly stagger the world with engineering prowess by hanging out in Italy drinking wine either. They conquered a mess of people and stole all the knowledge they could, got the best and the brightest they could find to build stuff, and advanced the body of knowledge of mankind immeasurably as a result.
Just a random remark on the terminology:
Standing on the shoulders of giants is not "stealing". Advancing the body of knowledge is not "stealing". Even just learning is not "stealing".
Police are sanctioned by the state to use force, sometimes even lethal force, whereas regular citizens are prevented from doing so in most circumstances. Therefore, police should be more accountable and held to higher standards than the rest of the citizenry. And yes, that includes stiffer penalties in case they screw up.
Is there any similar survey for salaries in SW development? Preferably one that is recent, accurate (and, if that is not too much to ask, includes Canada).
Child pornography (when it involves the participation of an actual child - in a sexual situation or in the creation of an image that might affect his later life by adverse publicity) can not be voluntary, because the child is not yet competent to make such decisions and is prone to defer to adults. So the production of child pornography using actual children is involuntary exploitation of children, abhorrent to pretty much everybody but the pedophiles themselves (and even to some of them).
Here, in Canada, the age of consent is 14. Yet a depiction of a person under 18 in a sexual situation (or just naked) is "child pornography".
Ergo, at the age between 14 and 18: 1) He/she is competent enough to make the decision to screw but not to be photographed. 2) You can legally screw his/her brains out but $deity help you if you mention it in your diary.
Wonderful thing, logic.
In the US at least, the legal system has justified attacks on the possession of child pornography as attacks on the demand side of its production - treating possession as evidence of purchase
Hmmm... Possession == purchase Did anyone told RIAA?
So when will Rogers (in Canada) stop throttling BT to unusable speeds even when there is ample bandwidth to accommodate it?
> Well, if everyone chips in, maybe we can afford a Senator?
Maybe we should.
Bron, are you in a position to update Cyrus's sieve support?

Hi Bron,
Any insight of what FM will do to stay competitive?
It's hard to compete with free...

Where did it go? /. strip non-english characters?
There were supposed to be a Cyrillic "R" and a "yu" between the quotes.

Is it similar to the Russian ""?
Speaking of PC games for kids.
What would you recommend for light playing (about 5 hours/week) for elementary-school children?
Just frelling give me IMAP already!
I guess the people that moderated it "informative" skipped a whole week.

Vote for MMP in the referendum and help change the system for the better.
Would you say that ATL/WTL is a move closer to the spirit of the original MFC?
Only 3712 Signatures as of now...
Does GMM require an Internet connection?
Data plans here in Canada are nothing to write home about...

Maybe it is a Quebec thing.
Don't recall it being that way in Ontario.
Wake me up when Gmail supports IMAP.
My bet is on Hanlon's razor (especially in light of this post).
