Doubt it. Windows OneCare flapped big time. Norton and other can still beat MS. AVG Anti-Virus have been free for ages and I doubt MS can take away their market share.
Are you retarded? The IE's rendering engine got shit to do with competing with Firefox or other browser. It's a fucking library. It got shit to do with the issue at hand. You're the reason why Slashdot is becoming a shit place for serious discussion.
"PS3 just passing it"? where is your source? from a simple google new search, Xbox360 is widens the lead over PS3 by at least 5 million consoles. Here is my source, http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/01/microsoft-xbox.html Do you just talk out of your arse or make shit up as you go along?
humm...you are using 3 liscenses and donated $100. This is why Canonical will never be profitable on the desktop. This is why Microsoft is still around.
Money won't matter much to poor people in poor countries like Mexico or even China because those people already used to be poor. Can you image what will happen if people in the West starting to lose their money. Do you think people at the West can get used to living dirt poor? I know American certainly will not. There will be riot, protest and even civil war. American have a huge pool of middle class and we have been living well for many years. Today's youth have not endure hardship. Unemployed young people == revolution. Can you code OSS if you have to live in your car? Hell, it might not be a bad thing for this country to go the shitter. Maybe a new order will rise from the ashes of this crapper.
No problem with Vista64 business edition either. I have been using Vista since Microsoft release it under ActionPack. There are some application issue since some apps have problem running under 64bit. Other than that no hardware problem or BSOD.
"And the fact that 32 bit desktop editions of current versions of windows simply do not support more than 3.something (the something varying depending on the other hardware in the machine) gigabytes of ram."
HD Radio is here. It's not like XM-Siruis doesn't have to fight the free radio. It's radio after all. 90% of people probably buy HD radio and listen for free compare to paying monthly subscription.
but it's easier to sell to investors and get massive free PR when your founder is 19 or 20 something like Gates and Job. FaceBook and MySpace are the perfect example as well. you can sell more magzine or ads if you feature some 20-something wonderkid vs putting old man Bill on the cover.
Wait. since when did leasing and renting is different? What kind of choice that you won't have if you lease it for a year and don't like it then you can stop the subscription. i have windows OneCare a while back and there is no cancellation fee or whatsoever. there are no cancellation fee for any software or service that i know of unless you sign a contract then yeah there is fee just like everything else in this world. you can still use OneCare even if you stop the subscription. you just won't get the update which is fair. what does WGA validation have to do with subscription? do you even understand what WGA does? What the other guy said is correct. subscription allow you to try out the software for whatever long you like and no huge up front cost like purchasing the software.
the article said "fast growing" that doesn't translated into fast growing in profit. how much do eBay make from people paying the fee service and not the free service?
anti-competitive??? what's wrong with forcing user to use safer browser to access their private data. If nothing else, this move will force Safari to include the feature that can protect their users. What you are saying is cop enforcing safe belt is anti-competitive to car maker that doesn't include a safety belt and safety belt have saved more lives than without it. what kind of logic is that?
It's not the samething. Let's not get into the OSS vs Commerical software. Microsoft have proudcts and if they sold their proudcts then they should pay the tax. It's really shitty when Commerical software company try to avoid paying taxes and point the finger on those who do not pay for their proudcts.
why bribe? when your average user take that shiny Linux PC home and can't find Microsoft Word or paly any games on it or do anything that he/she did on Windows. Don't see the point of MS bribing anyone. Linux still have a long way to go before replacing Windows.
You sounded like someone who just read all the negative review without actually using Vista. I installed Vista Business edition 32bit on my Dell Dimension 1100 ( 2.1 Ghz Celeron D, 1 GB RAM and Nvdia FX 5500(128mb)) It run fine on such low end hardware with Visual Studio 2005, Office 2007, WarCraft3 Frozne throne...etc. Maybe, it's time for you to upgrade your rig from Pentium to more modern hardware.
You do know MS business software (Office) along generate as much revenues as Google, right? For at least the next ten years, i don't see how Online (Cloud Computing) Office suite from Google going to beat MS Office.
oh come the fuck on! how many fucking version did MS SQL went thur? MS SQL is already a different product than what it used to be. Jeebus fuck! i know this is slashdot but at least give credit where its due.

I tried Eclipse while in College and it was god awful slow compare to Visual Studio(.Net 1.1). I have not tried Eclipse since.

Are you going to cry? MS did nothing wrong in this MS-Yahoo deal. No amount of crying from you going to prove otherwise. Deal with it!

If your CEOs are smart, they should fire you and just outsource everything to third party or Google.

Opera was the first that come with tab and not firefox. please give credit where its due.
who pay for Linux, Apache, Postgres...etc.? Are you going to pay for it so those software can continue or do money grown on tree?
