    net neutrality only guarantees that the source or destination of your data does not cause your data to be throttled. if they want to throttle all video traffic, they can do that. what they can't do is throttle video traffic from site X while not throttling it from site Y.

    once AI gets to the point where it can easily pass a Turing test

    if an AI can pass the turing test then it's only applicable business use is for interacting with humans. it's far more likely we will have AI that will only be capable of completing a small range of tasks and be limited to them. now if you have businesses making AIs to come up with ideas instead of using humans, that's where you are going to run into trouble. if someone makes an AI that isn't for business use then it's not really a slave.

    one thing i would really like is if Google/Alphabet made their own open source baseband processor because that's the one part of the phone that is the most insecure because it runs completely independently of the operating system, is 100% closed source, has access to the memory bus of most smartphones and full access to your SIM card. simply put, it's a backdoor to your system that is protected by a black box.

    it's not necessary, it's desired. people like to be able to determine what they are going to do with their life instead being slaves to biological processes. if you disagree with this then you should never take any medications ever even if it's to save your life because it's changing "the natural order of things".

    everything from Zune to the Windows phone to this tablet to Bing turns into a flop, or sensationally mediocre.

    that's because instead of focusing on making something that somebody would want to buy, they push marketing bullshit on people and that backfires. if it's actually a good product, you don't need to shove it in everyone's face at every turn because users who like it will tell other people about it. so when they pay the NFL to use their device and make a big deal about it by pointing it out all the time (nobody cares because it has nothing to do with the sport!), people are going to laugh when they call it an ipad because that's exactly what microsoft doesn't want.

    Having dealt with the head netflix guy pushing the EME, I can tell you for a certainty that if it's downloadable then it will require need to phone home periodically for the duration of the video which means that you will not be able to view the video offline. The reason for this bullshit is simple, it's in the contracts they made to license the content.

    Before it scared the crap out of me with this line: "you have having heart-attack or stroke. CALL FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY"
    However, the new system gave me a proper reply: "you have Attention Deficit Disorder, need to exercise more and please stop masterbating before using Google Health" :)

    One of the problems with software development is that people like adding features but they won't invest the time to crush every last bug. As a result, a bug could come from any number of layers in the API you are using so it's considered to be "impossible" to make perfect software. My fellow software developers, you really need to up your game! :(

    You can't be that stupid, that has to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the ignorant. CO2 is constantly removed from the atmosphere.

    I'm not that stupid and I'm not misleading anyone. CO2 is constantly removed from the atmosphere by plants and the sea and it's increasing the acidity of the ocean which is wreaking havoc on ocean life.

    if all man-made CO2 generation (not including breathing) stopped, the atmospheric levels of CO2 would return to pre-industrial levels fairly quickly (a small number of years) by natural processes.

    this used to be the case but we've passed the tipping point of the runaway greenhouse effect.

    Why not? They are not intrinsically polluting and can be made without polluting the environment. Fuels on the other hand are intrinsically polluting and cannot be made without polluting the environment.

    I would note that the pollution for wind and solar is remote from the operational location: smelting and refining the rare earths for magnets and solar panels isn't exactly what you would call a "green" process. . .

    Smelting and refining can be done in a 100% "green" manner using electricity. The fact that it isn't done this way in China is a good reason to impose a pollution tax on imported goods from China. This tax would allow US companies to compete again Chinese companies that don't have to follow US regulation.

    I see no reason why polluting industries like (oil/gas companies) should be subsidized at all. Frankly, we should be taxing them based on how much pollution they emit and how damaging it is. We are eventually going to have to remove CO2 from the air and it's going to be a pricey project. We might as well start saving money for it now.
