The problem in the world today in not that there aren't enough laws; the problem is much more of an ideological one. It's what we're facing with Al-Qaida; how do you stop a group that believes that they have been commanded by their god to kill and destroy? While everyone else is living happy and fulfilled middle-class lives, there's always going to be the disgruntled group that's digging their bomb shelter in the desert and plotting the destruction of the world.
The question is, Are we as an entire race ready to embrace the new world described in the article?
What I thought strange was that the tone of the whole article was, "How do we get the Japanese culture to accept and play the more violent FPS games?"
I guess I at least expected some balance in the article, mentioning what types of games are biggest in Japan and why. Heck, even the Street Fighter II vs. Mortal Combat comparison was an opportunity to discuss where and why the Japanese draw the line on violence, but no.
Hey, I love my FPS games as much as the next geek, but the genre is oversaturated. Would have been nice to read an article discussing the merits of games that don't normally make it to the US.
Yes, they are forcing us to upgrade. When you have a significant number of people on the LAN sharing iTunes music, and 4.5 tells you that it won't connect to 4.0 streams, then everybody has to upgrade at one time or the program loses a significant part of its usefulness. To have 4.0 not connect to 4.5 is understandable as technology advances... but to not be able to connect 4.5 to the last version is ridiculous. If I had known that in advance, I wouldn't have upgraded, but it wasn't in the Read Me (which I actually read this time!)
You talk about the program being FREE as if Apple has descended from heaven and graciously bestowed on us a most precious gift. No, it's not that way at all. Apple is fighting for marketshare, and I am doing them the greater service by downloading and using their program. It IS generating a revenue stream from me. My iTMS purchases have undoubtably paid for the product many times over. I am the consumer; if they want MY attention and MY money, they better focus on MY happiness.
Does anyone know how large their catalogue is? I just did a search on the Beatles, who are notoriously absent from all of the digital music services, and AllOfMP3.com has ALL of the Beatles' music available. I would therefore assume that their agreement with the RMIS is exhaustive.
Wow, this has the potential to put all of the competition, including iTMS, out of business virtually overnight.
Noah's Ark was built to the specifications outlined in the Bible. If what they find has the same dimensions and uses the same type of wood, can there be that much doubt?
And to determine if it's a burial boat or not, all they have to do is look inside.
From what I gathered, from this article and the profile of Lowry on Apple's website, the software doesn't just remove dust and scratches but also film grain, by comparing each frame in the context of the surrounding frames and then softening or even removing irregularities. Yes, the difference will be huge.
Even on DVD; a 4th generation copy is like a movie that has had compression added 4 times, and each copy is progressively worse. Ideally, you want the cleanest print possible before you add lossy compression.
Maybe I'm missing something, but if Real switches over to WMA, then why even bother with RealPlayer?
At first, I thought an Apple/Real alliance might be a good thing. After all, it's well known that iTMS is a loss-leader for Apple, so why not let Real have a share of the red ink?
However, if Real is trying to form an alliance, it can only mean that they believe that they are in trouble. In that case, having no alliance would mean that the market would only shake out Real that much more quickly, leaving Apple and Microsoft as the sole competitors.
Still, Apple is not good at forming strategic alliances. They always underestimate Microsoft. Always. An alliance with Real might slow Real's departure, but it also might slow Microsoft's advance, and for that reason should be seriously considered.
But here we have Glasser insulting Jobs in the press. Gee, when was the last time YOU were won over by public insults.
So yeah, Jobs should probably accept, but he's not gonna, because he's got too much pride.
Killing it is easy... identifying it is the problem I believe they are referring to. Of the millions of blades of grass in your yard, how would you identify the ones that may have been bioengineered?
...America's Army: Operations is little more than a thinly veiled recruiting tool for the U.S. Army.
True, but it doesn't always work for them. Just look at that OTHER DoD game, America's Navy: Paint Chipper/Latrine Scrubber.
Heck no, it's where I get most of my light and heat from!

4.5 music sharing is incompatible with 4.0!
I hate Apple's "forced upgrade" policy... sigh.

Last I heard, there wasn't any SCO stock available to short... Wall Street has already clued in to this.
Look out, the trickster aliens are coming for you.
Here's a good one to start with: The Case for Christ by Lee Stroble.

The HomePod from MacSense is already available, and best of all, it will stream music from any iTunes shares it finds.
Where are the sharks with the fricken' lasers attached to their heads?
And yes, I have seen one in the flesh.
Um... ok, I'll bite. What were you doing naked at a used car lot?
Alderaan shoots first.
Mickey Mouse has just been elected the Prime Minister of India, with a stunning 100% of the vote!
Then you aren't doing it right.
You should only have to re-compress once at most.
I'm not doing it at all. Notice the presence of the word "like"; my statement was a simile.

Just make sure your Tivo is on, and then watch twice as much TV the following week...

Hide your camcorder in your tub of popcorn and you won't get arrested!
I think it lucks.
Set your cable or DSL router to block all outgoing SMTP traffic. Pure profit, and no spamming.
