Of course you can't trust it. Anything with such a lame and stupid sounding name as wiki can't be trusted.;)
Seriously, though, you should never trust anything you read in any encyclopedia. Get the source of the information, and don't trust that either. See how well the info syncs up with various other sources on the subject. After that you might show some degree of trust in the statements.
Pretty? I hope you're being sarcastic... one of the uglier games I've seen. Ugly character models, ugly colors, ugly look when it moves... squishy/stretchy plate armor on the models? blegh.
The looks can be dramatically improved from ugly as hell to so-so with various mods, at least. But there are no mods to fix the boring problem, that I'm aware of.
Fallout 3, without the guys who split off to do Troika Games, wouldn't be nearly as good, I think.
Depends on your needs. Controller goes and you're toast. If you need constant uptime go with either 1+0 or 5+1, with mirrors on seperate controllers in each case.
Sorry, you are not correct. Visit fija.org and look around. check out links and historical facts on juries in the US. jurorsrule.com has some great historical quotes and facts, as well. Judges and lawyers have been trying to get rid of juries rights and duties for a long time, making them something that you discribe. I think this is one of the main problems with the US court system.
If by 'glorified VT100 terminals' you mean SunRays, then I would guess you have never tried SunRays. That is one of the few areas in recent years where Sun has done things _right_. SunRays are a wonderful setup, but very misunderstood. Overall, they are fantastic. You wouldn't want an engineer doing 3D CAD on it, but for basic office use, mail, web, calendar, etc. it is a fantastic thing.
I was using a SunRay for years. The silence is beautiful, and the speed is generally fine. Of course I had to switch to Window Maker rather than the horrible CDE (Corporate Dictated Evil) or Gnome defaults, but that's just my preference. Try icewm or blackbox on it instead, if you wish.
I do hope they get a move on with a Linux port of SunRay software.
He's right, though, and Johnathan Schwartz says as much. They use Java more for brand recognition, not as a reference to the language. Same thing with their Java Enterprise System suite of software. It has a minor java front end, but that's about it.
Space colonization is the one and _only_ long term plan for survival. With our current use of limited fossil fuels, increased risk of destruction thanks to biological weapons, nuclear weapons, etc. this may be our best and perhaps only window for starting such colonization.
Not to sound like a dick, but better that billions starve to get a few hundred thousand into space, than spend it on people here. I don't think we need to be so drastic, though. I'm still hoping for a win/win situation.
gym = human hamster wheel = no fun = fuck no. hiking/biking/rock climbing = fun = yeah! no way to get to hills where I can hike/bike/climb rocks = d'oh
This is one reason that d20 sucks. Yes, a good storyteller can take those rules system and still run a great game (usually by changing them around a lot), but a better rules system, 'lacking' such things as alignment, classes, hundreds of charts, etc., can more easily be used to make a fun game. Of course the opposite is true, given a not good group.;P
1. This is something very different. It flat out makes it harder to get killed. This is immensely different than making it harder to get killed _unless they do something stupid_. It makes things more boring, in the end, as the characters are more assured survival, no matter what. A computer can't determine if an action is stupid or not, so can't do this properly.
2. Yes, and IMO, it can't be a RPG without it. It's light years apart from a real RPG.
d20's a pretty sucky system, rules wise. Shadowrun and Whitewolf games have a nicer system, overall (though I don't like either game genre, personally). The various games jumping on the d20 bandwagon are just making their games sucky. Sucky but sellable.
Give me a nice smooth, fast system that's as open ended in character design as Shadowrun any day over any d20 crap.
I'm told 3.5 is a massive improvement over v3.0, but it's still not for me.
As for RPGs in computer games, I've yet to see one. Arcanum was the closest to one I've seen. It was fun. It was also lightyears from being an RPG. We'll need truely imaginative AIs before we have that.
'iPlanet->SunONE->Sun Java Enterprise whativer' is crap software written by people who don't understand the UNIX way of doing things at all. It's a bloated buggy port from Windows software into UNIX, originally, and strongly shows it. There are some great ideas and concepts in that software (hard linking multiple mails to one file.. great spacesaver in Enterprise email, when a CEO or someone sends out one email to thousands of people), but it is very poorly implemented in general.
If they went to software company, they would loose that which is good in the company, and rely on that which is bad. Unfortunately their hardware is getting less good as well.:/
Another aspect is performance. Who needs 20 instances of a library loaded into memory, in various programs, when you can load it once and 20 different programs can use it?
Not only does it apply to all citizens, it applies to all humans.
Rights are inborn, existing merely because they are, not something granted to someone. The US constitution, specifically the bill of rights section, is an enumeration of _some_ of the things the US government can never legally do. It is not an exaustive list. Not being on the list doesn't mean it's not a right, only means it's not explicitly stated.
If the US government wants to go after non-US citizens, then they must follow all basic restrictions set forth in the bill of rights, as these are rights which are self evident to all humans.
Yeah, but we're the only one that can build space ships. Just wait until the sun explodes. We should have space ships that can take us far away from earth by then. Just see the ants try _that_!
They work. I took my USB keyboard from my SunRay (best device ever.. massively misunderstood, though) and have used it on Linux, Windows and Mac. Only problem I have with it is that the power key on the Sun keyboard is a power key, and I have no eject button.:)
As someone who had to fix those U5s/U10s, I can say that the IDE controllers on those boxes are POSes. They would often fail randomly, failing to recognise the default cable select for IDE master/slave mode, so you would have to manually do it. Then that would fail and you would have to go back to cable select. Then anything would fail and drives would drop out, then on reboot they would be back.
The U5 makes IDE look bad, and that's saying something!
Not to mention that the case is some of the worst design ever. Getting in there to replace a CPU is horrible. Or the motherboard... *shudder*.
Also, the U5/U10 have funky power supply issues. You have to be careful to sync up the right model of PSU, momboard and CPU.
The Ultra 2 is the last great workstation that Sun has done (counting newer Sunblades). U1 sucked, however. They used a sh*t fan on the CPU. The newer ones with the huge heatsink instead are ok.
The proper plural of elf is elfs. The proper plural of dwarf is dwarfs. Tolkien thought those two plurals were lame, and used elves and dwarves instead. Thus a new spelling was born. Viruses sounds lame and is clumsy to spell. Welcome to english, our ever evolving language.
Screw that. Bring us to it. Build small colonies there. Build cities and nations. If you build it, they will come. We need humanity to move beyond this mudball. That's the first priority. It's our only hope for survival, in the long run.
Samba really is your easiest/fastest/most supported solution, for this case. It works well. We use it in our corporate enviornment. Mostly a Sun shop with NFS mounted home dirs and software shares and such, but there are windows folks out there that want the same home dir. We support many hundreds this way.
The Samba section is pretty minimal to setup, for NFS. If you want printing and domains and such, it starts to get more complicated.
Of course you can't trust it. Anything with such a lame and stupid sounding name as wiki can't be trusted. ;)

checksums are good. let's have self repairing filesystems. end bitrot forever.

I hate when people suggest gyms.
When you let Sun's codemonkeys at GNOME. Sun does (or did) some great stuff, but the software isn't so hot.

Games are never released without bugs. You can't patch console games.

Yeah, I can always find all the old sparc stuff I want on pricewatch. :)
Don't go for the any 440 CPU on the U5/10. They're a gamble on if they'll crap out on you or not. Stick with 360. 440 had design flaws.
