While I agree that the registration ideas are getting out of hand, I dislike you refrence to a father molesting his daughter as being a milder case. That is I believe a far worse and more damaging situation.
Not soviet America, Capitalist America. Where you are a pawn of a government controlled by Big Business. You will be told what you MUST buy, what you MUST fear, and what you MUST believe is the truth by the government. Where posts like this one raise a flag in some database because I am saying something bad about the direction this country is taking. I find it somewhat ironic that for the Iraq war effort the politicians were telling everyone to support our troops because they are defending your freedom while they slowly began stripping away those freedoms. America is in a downward spiral. However it can be corrected but not without hard work and large scale citizen participation.
The simple fact here is that his politics are questionable. As it stands americans complain about GW being too much for big buisness. How is it going to be under a man who has worked hard to create the great american monopoly? Can you see open source going anywhere when the president is pushing initiatives for Microsoft products in all levels of government? Let alone the legislation he would probably put forth for RIAA and MPAA. You think DRM is a pain now. I have nothing against having a buisness man as president. Hell it might might get the budget fixed. What I do have a problem with is someone who has built a company on restricting choices running a country that is supposed to be all about choices.
TV is not really a quality family time. Dont get me wrong there are shows that me and the kids love to watch. however unless you shut off the tv afterward and talk about, it there is no real social interaction going on. The internet is not much better. (yes i know that is not very slashdot of me)Face to face communication is still the best form of social activity for anyone.
This is a logical step really. people will move to online viewing because it offers them the choice of what to watch and when to watch it that fits around their schedual. I think if networks put up their shows for people to watch at any time on the internet with commercials people would watch it with commercials just to be able to watch their favorite shows when they want to not when the network scheduals it.
That would require America churning out Inteligent and Well Educated young people. Which they seem to be in very short supply of. What little they do have seems to be coming in from other countries anyway. Maybe if they concentrated more budget on beating some education into the children instead of spending it all on spying and military "For the childrens sake." they might actualy get some where. And yes I am one of those Natural born inteligent and poorly educated americans, just for clarification.(the lack of proper spelling and grammer should be a big give away)
I feel compelled to point out that Alot of parents already take this approch. They shelter children completely from the outside world and raise children that cant function beyond their own home. These are also the people who yell and screem to have our rights taken away for the sake of the children. I have a hard time believing you can do that sort of thing to your children, yes you protect them from harm while they are young but you also make them unable to cope with reality. Growing up is learning about reality and how to function in the real world. you cant learn that in a rubber room. You have to expose kids to reality. In moderate digestable doses for sure. there is nothing wrong with limiting exposure to things untill they can process it, but you cant hide it from them forever. Of course now I am ranting. My point is that I have seen people doing this sort of thing "for" their children. but it really does nothing for the children.
I still blame parents. I have played video games all of my life I have never picked up a gun and shot someone. My parents taught me the line between fantasy and reality and reinforced it. My father taught me how to point and shoot a gun at the age of 5. He also taught me to respect them. If parents can't monitor what their kids are doing and teach them the difference between TV/Video games and the real world then how can children be expected to know. More so, if parents don't want them exposed to this level of violence then it is up to the parents to not give them access. How can anyone blame the maker of a video game for anything when it's the parents that put it into the kid's hands in the first place?
Lots of people still do. Because Some people will believe anything. The biggest problem has been and always will be the user. As I keep telling the associates in the center I support. All these computers were working perfectly before you got here.
I love his work and I think this is unfortunate for a man who is all about his fans, and his gold cadillacs. He should be able to enjoy atleast the unvailing party with all those hot chicks all over him. and I know someone is going to say this is because people are downloading illegaly and rant about how slashdotters who download things are killing the artists. But either way he is getting advertising out of this. I dont believe this will hurt his sales at all since his fans are willing to pay for his work and will pay to be able to see him in concert.
I work for a major american bank in one of their call centers. As someone with an account at said bank I am glad they disable outside IM clients as well as out of company email. I have to trouble shoot for these phone agents and I am quite sure they are just as capable of accidentaly handing out the personal information of customers through plain stupidity as they are through malicious intent.
Instead people would be saying how they have been doing it all along using code they or someone else wrote ages ago.

Just to point out, This isn't even an article. It is just someones blog.
Wasnt there a little girl who got sued over dowloading music? Didnt her parents have to pay some rediculous settlement?

Next up. Slashdot sells Mod points.
So this is what will happen to America when the RIAA and MPAA take complete control of the country?

that it was not a typo. "
seems to me like a public school education at its finest.

But they did. Most of the earth is covered with cells.
What stops the photon from chaning its state while it is traveling through the fiber optic cable?

And you will continue holding out forever.
As proven by UN relations and sanctions with regard to N Korea

Not that it is impossible or even unlikely but I am curious how it will get around having to contact microsoft to validate the windows version.

the parents sig works well for this comment.

When I installed WMP 11 it was turned on by default. not that I use WMP for ripping CDs anyway.
