  3. Re:His Master's Voice on Don't Talk To Aliens, Warns Stephen Hawking · · Score: 0

Agreed. Any civilization advanced enough to build ships capable of interstellar travels HAS ALREADY FOUND PEACE AT HOME. No warring nation could spare the man (alien) power or resources to go looking for another planet to rape. Also, with the apparent abundance of energy (stars) and resources (gas giants, nebula, asteroids) there would be no reason to detour to find an earth like planet (unless the aliens are exactly like us, which is astronomically unlikely).

My thoughts exactly. Don't put a fan in a 'silent' pc. I am currently running an overclocked 3Ghz 4 core intel chip with PASSIVE cooling, so no noise. If that can run without a fan, I'm sure a media pc can run without a fan.

I have never understood the need for games platforms like xbox and playstation, to want to make their own consoles. As far as I can tell, consoles are a dead weight, the developing companies spending years developing them and lose money on every console. They have to understand they are selling software NOT hardware. Hardware is best left to cheapo Taiwanese companies and marketplace competition.

  19. Re:Will Smith asking for too much money? on Will Smith In For Independence Day 2 & 3 · · Score: 0

Agreed, Will Smith is a lot better than any of his peers. Pursuit of Happyness was really great.
I can't help but feel that when African-Americans are in esteemed positions, they face unfair amounts of negative publicity (Obama, W Smith, Jackson, Tiger). If a Caucasian sports star cheated on his wife, no body would bat an eyelid (or it would be considered a family matter). If a Caucasian pop star is a tweaker (eg. Brittney) they are forgiven and everyone moves on. W Smith is constantly berated by the press, but who is he competing with ? Hollywood stars are mostly shit.

They are getting close though. Mental Ray, which is the renderer of choice on most feature films, was recently bought by Nvidia and is about to release iRay. iRay uses Nvidia cards to accelerate photoreal Global Illumination. This is utterly accurate, real world lighting. Some setups show a new form of progressive rendering, where you see the finished render gradually. But this system scales up linearly so multiple cards could equal movie quality renders in realtime. Exciting time. Good news for Nvidia.
