It's funny. At one job I had, it wasn't allowed to defragment my own hard drive. Yet I had delete access to every table in the production database. Strange.
I did a lot of googling and playing around with yast. (I had Suse, kanotix, mepis, and a couple other distros on the hard drive and I couldn't get any of them past the command prompt.)
I've been trying out Linux lately by dual-booting with windows. This is a problem I recently ran into: upgrading the video card. I took my old card out, booted into Windows (at 640x480), installed the new drivers, rebooted and Windows was working with my new card. Then I tried booting into Linux, and it just dumps me to a command prompt. No 'new hardware detected' or 'video card config invalid'. I ended up having to reinstall the whole os to get it to work.
I don't think the orginal commenter was trying to put down LCDs. I think he meant the the quailty of the LCD on a laptop is lower than a regular LCD. At work I have an LCD monitor and a laptop. If I put them side by side, the LCD monitor is much easier to read that the laptop.
This could be a great way for NASA to raise money. They could auction the shuttle off! Just think, if some of these millionaires are willing to pay millions for rides into space, how much would they pay to be able to put up a shuttle in their yard! Of course, you'd strip out all the computers and stuff first (It'd just be a show piece--not a working vechicle.) I'm sure you could find a buyer.
Most employers specify that code written by employees belongs to the company.
Well, what if (before you start working there) you create a library of your code and make the library freely available on the internet. Then you can include your library in the code you write for the company and they shouldn't be able to claim ownership (of the library functions).
...iDefense recently signed a secret agreement with Microsoft whereby Microsoft would pay it $20,000 for every unknown Critical Windows Flaw it could find.
If they sell their IDE tools to someone who can market them properly, maybe more people will begin to use them. Perhaps we'll even see a "Delphi Express Edition."
In every job I've had (programming or not) I've written programs to help coworkers and myself with work. Usually utilities that make things easier. Of course, I'm sure the culture would vary by company so yours might not approve but even though mine wheren't official projects, they were always well received.
Come on. You know it was just the Olympic Committee making sure no one violated their trademark on the term "Olympics". Because you know they have to protect the term "Olympics" so that know one else can make money off the word "Olympics". If these officials where caught using the term Olympics they could be in big trouble with the Olympic Committee. Hold on, someone's knocking on my door.....
What is the growth rate of broadband availability?

Or at least DRM that is not multi-platform. I can't buy a book in a PocketPC format and read it on my Zaurus.
...I'm more impressed that someone made a thermometer that could measure it!
We're not allowed to send any .zip files because they could contain viruses. I even tried to send an empty zip file and it blocked it.
...that I still can't get broadband, right?
You've reminded me of something I've long said: "Any movie that doesn't deserve a sequel will get one."
I want my PDA and phone to be seperate. The phone should handle communications duties. And they should talk to each other wirelessly (bluetooth).

Is it possible to create an internet that relies instead on peer-to-peer connectivity?
Depends -- can you afford to fight the RIAA lawsuits?

Yeah. My first thought was "Enterprise? Didn't they cancel that show?"
Kirk: Scotty, I need more power!
Scotty: Sorry capt'n, the warp injector system isn't working. But don't worry, I've got the source code, just let me fix a couple bugs in it...
considering that they aren't available to the public yet.

what all that money they got was for -- lawyers.

malfunctioning self-destruct procedure
What exactly was suppose to be destroyed, but wasn't?
You wake up, scan the custom newspaper that's spilling from your fax, walk into the living room
Hak.5 had a segment where they did that very thing (except it was from the printer and not the fax).
Must be a hardware problem...
But they did come with a warning to not steal music. It must be only the illegal downloads that harm hearing!
