  1. Re:Not so strange on Colleges Outsourcing Email To MS Live, Google · · Score: 1

My roommate freshman year (I am a sophomore now) communicated with me before we moved in via his dad's AOL email account from work. I had him create a Facebook account about three weeks into school. His first home computer was shipped to him at school a week into the year, his family's first home computer, and no, he is not poor.

Most likely, there is a hardware layer involved somewhere tracking if his computer is on or not. If it is on and not sending a signal to the server, he gets busted.

Trillian shows my AIM mail, even though I don't use AIM mail, so I am sure it would show Yahoo! and Hotmail, as well, if that is what you use.

Actually, my school (Ferris State in Michigan) did this as well. I got a letter on my desk at work saying the school had been sent settlement letters and that Ferris does not monitor the network, so they would not release the names of students. Of course, we are most likely going to get sued for it, bu our lawyers are ready, I imagine.

So you decided to look for another OS just because MS decided they would do something about security and put a firewall in, rather than letting the majority of users go without, and making the rest pay for one? You either hate yourself and don't admit it or you have no concept of what good vs bad is.
