sounds like a good idea, it'll make the site better and reduce dupes etc. $10 is such a small amount that it won't put off anyone who wants to use it seriously but will make some dupers reconsider posting the same thing loads... although it might be so small that you could still pay $40 and think it was a good deal for 4 listings... I guess it depends on how much money you think you might make.
i think its because apple is applying for the patent, this will make it more difficult for developments in the future based around similar technologies just with different makers. The idea, if they can make it work well, will no doubt be a key feature in future devices when the push to make them smaller means less space for buttons etc... Holding back this is bad for the free market, therefore bad for your rights as a consumer
If they went down this route it would be very easy to slip into being an evil monopolistic company, i don't know exactly how the rules work but if the shareholders thought that the execs were working against the interests of the company (ie. letting other people in for a low amount) then there could well be a move to oust them... Then google will be just another evil face in the crowd (assumuing they are not already)... It seems like it would just be easier to avoid this...
in game ads could work but only in specific circumstances, if I was playing zelda and navi started saying "how about a nice refreshing coke" or something I'd be pissed off, but in a game like GTA or some real world based game set in cities then it wouldn't be inapropriate to have bill board ads or posters which actually do exist, infact it could make the game better as it would be "more real" than before.
This will do very little though, becuase scientific research is mainly done at universities which have an eye on the end results for profit. The universities will not sponsor extensive research on projects which they will not be able to change into profit. Even if people can do the research for their PHD's then there will be a wealth of information in the "wouldn't it be nice if we could use it catergory"
For me that was the ultimate rythem game, it was also the first rythem game i ever saw/played, it was nice that you didn't have to physically dance like you do with some of the dance mat games, so you didn't feel too stupid, with fun graphics and a mental story it had everything you could ever want... even cool music
its worth mentioning that on "newsnight review" they said that although the first ep was ok the second was better... might be worth seeing the next one... although I do hate laughter tracks.
I have never played WoW - and this is something i'm very thankful for. I have a habbit of letting things take over my life a bit, especially games. It kind of makes you feel a bit like your wasting your life when they put hour counters in the games... I'm glad i've managed to keep my time.
I've been waiting for years for speach recognition technology to get to an acceptable standard and over that time I've used a couple, the one i got lately (dragonsoft I think) was ok, but they need to come quite a bit further before I'll be adopting all the way.
I'm looking forward to when I can say "computer, open openoffice for me mate" and it'll go "sure"... That'll be sweet.
maybe they should say "upgrade to linux for the security" (or macOS X)... Vista seems to be offering very little in terms of features, and will offer little else in terms of security, partly people go for it because it's what most people use, and partly because M$ just doesn't take security seriously enough... they need to have a root and branch change of how the OS is designed to give a greater emphasis on security instead of useless visual tweaks.
I heard that there was only one other dimension... and the only difference was we are all wearing mexican hats... I thought this was general knowledge - perhaps the scientists here should have checked the facts before they started considering 24 dimensional super gravities and the like
The whole china situation is really the fault of the first big company to go into china and start censoring search engines... If all the big search engines had stayed out of china then there wouldn't have been a problem, and if they all said no it would be ok, but when one allows it to happen it creates problems because companies need to compete against each other
They made a big thing about the filtering, but when I went on google's china site and seached for tianamen square the first result i got was about the masacre and the second was from amnesty's web page... it doesn't look like they are actually filtering anything
Also, they mentioned that google would say when it actually filtered something out, which lets people know they are doing it, witholding rights is like growing mushrooms, they both grow best in the dark
A judge can do whatever the hell he wants in his court... if he really wanted he could put his fingers in his ear and go "nah nah nah nah" all the way through any evidence he didn't like. A judge cannot be prosecuted for anything he does wrong luike that in court... Still if the judge used an unsound legal arguement then the defendant should appeal by way of case stated to the high court (I don't remember which division it is... maybe chancery), still its likely the defendant was just trying desperately to avoid a fine for his wrong-doing and judge's arguement used was legally sound
If they were to sell them in developed countries for $200-$250 for people just to prat about with, then they could make $150 which would help susidise the cost of a few laptops for the people who are poor
They made a big thing about the filtering, but when I went on google's china site and seached for tianamen square the first result i got was about the masacre and the second was from amnesty's web page... it doesn't look like they are actually filtering anything
then after N64 it went 3D and each new game is worse and worse.
You've obviously never played Paper mario, its a fantastic game, and is a side scroller, like the originals, also, like most Nintendo consoles they put game play above graphics, which is something Sony and M$ seem to have forgotten to do
you make a good point, but be thankful that at at least the age at which girls can be in porn in the US is (I think in some states at least) the age of consent for sex, in the UK girls can consent to sex at 16, however if you are having legal sex with a 16 year old and you film it you could feasable charged with possesing child porn.
It is also worth noting that the child porn on the internet problem has been made worse by the refusal to have the ".XXX" domain, which I think would reduce the amount of illegal porn people could be accidentally subjected to, and at the same time make the opperators of sites more concientious and careful about who is on the site in the first place
I discovered something the other day which sounds perfect, you can expand it almost infinately to hold as much data as you want, although on the downside the upload takes a while... Still, it never crashes - not even in a thousand years.
the sales guy said it was called "paper"... strange thing
Am I the only person to have notice $4 Billion is such a small amount of money for the European countries, it represents about 0.01% of GDP (or less - I don't have exact figures). For this price why not have two...
"first rule of government spending - why have one when you can have two for twice the price"
The EU will never be a unitary state, partly because of the nationalism of the countries in the EU, not least: UK, Germany and France. The EU will also never break up, in england most people really dislike the EU but we haven't and won't leave. In the last election the most anti-EU mainstreme party was only pushing for minor reform, not withdrawal. Its just too good to leave but not so good as to make a state.
Then again, is information from Wikipedia even considered authoritative to be referenced in papers? I found this out the hard way, most academics hate Wikipedia, I had a professor wax lyrical at me over this and all I did was use it to point out when an even happened. i think the whole of the world views wikipedia in similar light, which is a shame, because it often contains only the same number of errors as other sources. On the whole its best just to avoid using it at all.
the technology sounds impressive, but i can't help but feel that it is the games for consoles which are the most important factor, and by good games I mean good game play. Whenever they create new technology like this it just creates a new push to make even more games which are 50 hour long FMVs. I wouldn't buy a PS3 even if i thought the games would be good because i'm avoiding sony over the rootkit.
by the way if you want to log in use password and username "slashdot".
yes... forgot the "S"... i didn't mean to see the porn... of course not... *looks shifty*

...It has to be the Zelda games... almost every one is a classic, my personal favourite has to be Ocarina of Time, its so fantastic.
The newest game to captivate me like this is Resident Evil 4, its a classic, getting to shoot anything with a shotgun, brill.
