I kinda believe this is at least partially due to people who hear they can make a lot of money in "biotech" or "computers" getting into the degree programs, as opposed to the people who gravitated towards them through natural interest as in the past. At least, I think it may be the case in the sciences. I think business majors hve always been this way.
Except that in an MMO your "second career", as you say, can be picked up and left alone at will. besides, being successful IRL can bring with it more headaches and annoyances than extra benefits.
That's because it's widely speculated that FOX's programming plan is "watch what ABC does and then copy it."

If the quality is the same, sure. But, if we were talking Tacos, I'm gonna go with the highest quality if its the same price. Your example doesn't say anything about quality of care, just availability of procedure and price.
But if you think you can get through a good CS program without learning puzzle solving or problem analysis, you're either an idiot or you went through a really bad CS program (which admittedly, are probably not in short supply).
Except for, again as discussed yesterday, when the machines didn't properly read the access cards AND when people would pull up their electronic ballots WITH SELECTIONS ALREADY FILLED IN. That's not logistics, that's a definite implemetation problem from the vendor standpoint.

Yeah but by the time Rome salted Carthage (third war), Carthage wasn't much of a challenge anymore, nor did anyone important that could cause Rome grief really reside there anymore, insofar as I recall.

Or, could be an example of the idea that the best sysadmins in the world never look like they're doing anything. (there's a whole discussion to be had on that one!)
A note to the mods. This is the most on topic least troll and most informative listing you have ever read on this topic. If you can't see that write a criticism as a response or get a life. Otherwise this deserves every mod point you can give it. Slashdot shouldn't be a shout-down and heckle society.
Nor should it be a "here's why you should vote for me!" post society. That last paragraph was pretty lame.
Sure, until the companies realized there was indeed a home market.
Most of those VHS tapes were priced for video rental places, where after a dozen rentals max you made a profit. Once the installed home base of VHS was significant, the prices dropped enormously.
This had happened by the early 90's at the latest, incidentally.
addendum to that:
I'd never heard of the BSR acronym. I always called them "Praxis Rings", because as far as I knew it was the first time they were used cinematically in that fashion.
While that's true, my question is, is the number of people who care about the release date of Windows Vista anywhere near the number of people who cared about the release date of W2k or XP? Is that number reasonably similar to the percentage of total users who cared for those releases?
[oblig eve post]Eve-online just this _week_ made Win2k the minimum OS version (which blew me away that they were still supporting Win98 clients until this week). How long will XP remain a eminently useful OS to the majority of us (or for gaming?)
You shouldn't have left out where the extra $1,000,000 comes from in recoupable expenses (its from paying the producer, the recording space, prmotions, etc, I'm guessing). Now, granted, some times the producer comes from a small list that the record company wants you to use (which is kind of a racket... well, more than "kind of", I suppose).
While you're mostly right, and I feel ike I type/say this a lot in conversations like this, keep in mind that's for big RIAA -esque labels. Smaller labels can have WILDLY variant contract terms from this label, which are often more favorable to bands/artists (though not necessisarily).
I'm embarassed that so many times I don't catch that someone is citing the Washington Times instead of the Washington Post. Good thing other people are paying more attention than I am.

I dunno, "getting or not getting a job" is often not a trivial thing.

There was already a "sequel" to tTCA in production, or at least in pre... just not an official "in name" one... "The Topkapi Affair"

Well, I didn't say it was easy to get a new one. Just that it was possible.
actually, i'm fairly certain you can indeed be issued a new SSN

Bizarre. So spill the beans, what's the name of the school?

Most likely Sony is using these for their own devices (PS3)
And he was so EARNEST about it.

Yeah but at least in that movie the wave was actually something more than a pretty effect.
I dunno. there's the whole DX10 thing. I still have a feeling, however unfounded, that DX10 will eventually be back-ported to XP.

After all, keep in mind who sets up the blocks.
I did have one place that blocked ssh though. Kept everyone but the network techs on vlans that blocked it, I guess.
