  1. Skype on Class-Action Lawsuit Over iPhone Locking? · · Score: 1

Unfortunately there would only ever be one third party application that needed to be develeoed and that would be a version of Skype. Once that was out it would kill off all the phone usage and therefore the phone itself.

I think that where every 10/20 years the whole law book gets reviewed. Anything not entirely relevant gets removed so as to streamline the whole legal process. Most legal systems are full of laws that go back several hundred years and never get called on these days. If you don't see people herding sheep over london bridge its got nothing to do with the fact it's against the law, its just that there is no need to any more. Rather than the typical knee jerk reactions to some current event, a constantly evolving set of laws would be more in touch with the people and the state of the nation. To this end, a wiki is certainly an interesting way of doing things. A discussion forum on the various subjects may have been better as that would encourage proper discussion and discourage edit wars.

  17. Size matters? on Review of Amazon's DRM-Less Music Download Store · · Score: 0, Redundant

Is a 256kb mp3 twice the size of a 128kb mp3? If it is then isn't this just a scam to make us buy bigger iPods/Zunes/Zens/etc? Make the files twice the size (with no real difference in sound) and suddenly you can only fit half as much music on there.

  22. Re:The way they are going about it on Apple May Be Breaking the Law With Policy On iPhone Unlocks · · Score: 1

Yeah, its a bit of bad PR spin. If they had relased the update and a 'few' iPhones had stopped working, and they just happened to be the modded ones then people wouldn't be so up in arms.

The trouble is people don't know if Apple are deliberately going to kill the iPhones where they have been tampered with or whether it's just some part of the update mechanism that has been hacked and therefore doesn't work any longer.

I still say move development over to the iPod Touch. No one actually brought the iPhone for the phone part of it. They brought it for the touchscreen. I am sure hacking the touch will be a lot less problematic.

  24. Re:Waa, waa.... on Vivendi Calls iTunes Contract Terms "Indecent" · · Score: 1

Would anyone miss them if they pulled out of iTunes? I don't think so. Apple/iTunes is only the largest supplier of downloads as they have a LOT of iPods out there. People only buy a couple of tunes each a year, but multiply that by the number of iPods out there and you are talking big numbers. People buying a dozen tunes each year is not a bright future for the music industry. It's better than every other download company but still not brilliant. Twenty songs =1 or 2 albums.

As you say they get paid for doing nothing. I wouldn't be suprised if the record companies got together and formed their own music sales website. Just as NBC is supposed to be doing. That way they still have to do nothing but get the full 99c for it. iTunes was successful as it was first but as it has no control over the content the record companies have them over a barrel.
