A double agent is someone who works in the field/makes house calls and inside the store. They usually seem to be the best from my experience (i.e. they can sell you a part without reading the specs off the box).
Hope that helps:]
Advertising is really beggining to reach the level of absurdity. I can understand the line of reasoning behind putting advertisements on non-cable TV, but this strange trend to put advertisements into content that the consumer already has paid for boggles my mind. Yes, advertising to cover the costs free services makes sense, but when it goes towards a pay service it is nothing but greed and trying to sodomize your customers for more money. You sure you want them to take ads out of cable tv because you 'pay for it?' No thanks, i'd rather not pay 500 dollars a month for cable. The advertising in TV is to pay for the networks who produce the shows, the 20-30 bucks a month you pay for cable is to get the content sent to your tv.
The XPS notebooks are little powerhouses, but complaining about the lack of DX10 support? Why is this an issue in a NOTEBOOK? You should be asking:
Why is this an issue for ANY computer?
Ask yourself these questions: Would you want to pay thousands of dollars for a laptop that can't support the newest DX10 game next year? Would your company want to spend thousands of dollars on a laptop that doesn't support DX10 (assuming they may potentially need it in the future)?
And please don't give me any bull about how I am going to upgrade in 2 years anyways, because if I'm spending 2-3k on a laptop I would plan to get quite a few years out of it with decent performance.
Whoever modded this -1 needs to get there sarcasm meter checked. Sheeesh, give the guy a break that was pretty funny.
In all seriousness I thought the -1 rank was for posts that blatently seek to be offtopic or trollish (think frost pist and GNAA). The parent obviously wasn't trying to be either of these. Remember: Just because you don't agree with it or think it's funny -- doesn't mean that others will not. And please, for the sake of everyone else, lighten up...
Craplets are part of the reason I despise Windows.
Really... Would you rather pay 100-200 bucks more (maybe more than that?) for a windows box without craplets, or 100-200 less for a windows box with craplets that you can easily uninstall in a matter in minutes.
I don't know who you are, but and extra 10 minutes of my time is definitely worth a saved 100-200 bucks. Shheeshhh... thats like saying you'd rather pay 600 bucks a month for cable without commercials.
I agree... GP's post is a little half baked. It seemed like a good idea at first, but if pirating was legal because of the levy, wouldn't everyone just pirate their music then? I sure as hell know I would. Then due to the increased piracy they would have to increase the levy that much more, etc etc... Music is a market where the consumer has a tough time winning in.
Sure, but are they flying off the shelves in great quantity, or is it just that the three or four units the store gets every two weeks are flying off the shelf? All I know is that I've been trying to get a unit for 3 months, and now I've lost interest...
Bullshit... you're trying to tell me if you had the opportunity to pick one up at wallmart without waiting in line you wouldn't? It's not that people are less interested in buying them, they are just tired of calling 12 different stores everyday in order to pick one up. Some people will go and buy a 360 sure, but that will be a small part of the market share, and as people already stated, they intend to sell the 360 and pickup a wii.
Also dell doesn't have to provide tech support for linux, just the same it doesn't provide it for windows, and I suppose there will be the usual linux-related community to which would be possible to offload some tech support.
The problem is they would need to set up a help-desk and train their staff. The help-desk consists of a large series of hierarchal questions and integrate them into their existing interface.
Staff training would be huge since most of their existing staff has been using windows their whole lives. The linux session would have to be more hands on, actually teaching the staff how to use it from the ground up (most have never even seen linux run). Also there is the problem of multiple distributions and training for each.
I'm not sure if the cost would be substantial or not, but they would also want to write some software to brand their computers they installed linux on (you know, the typical dell, hp, gateway, etc startup programs).
Oh, and marking it in some sort of universal language so that in the event civilization collapses and we revert to a new stone age some hapless hunter gatherer doesn't try to eat it.
Maybe draw a picture of a man eating it and then an arrow pointing to the man looking like he is in agony and about to die? Sounds like a rather complicated language to me!
Microsoft should be ashamed that their shiny new OS needs an 800+ page book for people to use it effectively.
I tink its 4 documetin al ther c00l featurezzz!
::Giggles and walks away::
PHP5 should be ashamed that I had to read a 600+ page book to use it effectively... whats your point? That can be said for Apache, MySQL, Pearl, Mac OSX, and etc. Maybe after reading that 800+ page book you'll learn something useful or something you didn't know before, for instance the ability to restart windows explorer without restarting the computer. As for me, I am perfectly fine going to Google and typing, "How-to ubuntu install ----" and finding step-by-step relevant tutorials without having to pay the aforementioned 'Pogue guy.'
If a bunch of wankers in corduroy pants can come up with friggin' feisty fawn for free, imagine what we might have if they had some real backing and resources? Would I pay $250 for it? Absolutely. May Steve Jobs and Bill Gates rot in hell for spoiling what should be a Golden Age of personal computing.
And all the linux users said -- Amen
Microsoft stole from Unix, then we get 800 comments about how microsoft is evil for doing it, yet no one will mention that Apple did the same thing cause they aren't the evil microsoft.
Or maybe we will have a story on here about how microsoft is dumb as hell for not implementing it sooner.
I can remember countless occasions with new Quake2, CS, Diablo II patches etc that were made available on ftp servers who quickly died and noone could upgrade for a day or two
Did you pay a monthly fee to play their game? They should give the user an option between ftp and bittorrent and let the user choose which they think will be faster. When I am paying a premium fee -- I expect premium service. 'Nuff said.

Jeez.. I'm glad people can't go anonymous in the real world.
:p.
"But Your Honor, I checked the Anonymous box before i killed him... You can't punish me now"
Karma is a silly concept
I was about to agree with you until i read "The only way for them to keep offering free content is if users pay for it"
Wtf? I try not to pay for my 'free content.'
But are you certain they won't find it entertaining :]?
I don't know about you, but my tubes aren't clogged at all. Seriously. :p
... WOOOSHHHH
You know you can't get laid when you:
I also think it's funny when Joe
Feel free to mod me down, but this applies to me just as much as you

You better watch out -- he may come for you next

Tell me where you can type 'sudo -i' in Vista?
:].
I agree with the cry wolf too many times post. Can't wait for Microsoft to advise using an anti-virus program along with there security
Non-sense! Everyone knows a metric fuckton + a metric assload = 1 George Bush
I believe in the new EULA for vista it gives a big no-no for virtualization. Now what
