Where have you been? The fourth largest earthquake in recorded history, measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale caused a 1000km long stretch of seabed along a fault line to be lifted by 10m in a matter of seconds. This displaced many cubic kilometers of water, which caused devastating tsunami's on the surrounding coastline. The tsunami's caused massive devastation in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Indonesia. Even in Somalia, 5000km from the epicentre of the earthquake more than 100 perished. The death toll currently is estimated at 125.000 but not all bodies have been counted yet and many never will be found.
In terms of damage and casualties this could well be considered the largest disaster in recent history. If you have some of your christmas bonus to spare, donating it to the Red Cross or another NGO would be a good idea.
Because some of the byproducts of reprocessing can be used to make nuclear weapons. If you have 50kg of U-238, you're nowhere near a nuclear weapon. However, weapons grade plutonium is one of the byproducts of reprocessing.
Yes, at least if you're talking about modern pebble bed reactors. All other designs have the possibility of a meltdown, albeit a very small possibility.
This is a fusion reactor, not a fission reactor. When things go wrong in a fission reactor there is the possibility of a meltdown, etc. This possibility does not exist in a fusion reactor. If something goes wrong, the reaction stops and in a worst case scenario, there's a fire. Nothing worse than your average coal plant, except for the fact that it's not emitting tonnes of carbon dioxide.
You are definitely right that MS created C# to make money. And who can blame them - after all, they're a company which sole purpose is making money.
I have to disagree with the rest of your comment though. C# has a lot of the features Java has, but also expands on these. Delegates are cleaner, the C# iterators are way nicer than Java iterators and don't get me started on Generics.
Quote: You see, Vicary lied about the results of his experiment. When he was challenged to repeat the test by the president of the Psychological Corporation, Dr. Henry Link, Vicary's duplication of his original experiment produced no significant increase in popcorn or Coca-Cola sales. Eventually Vicary confessed that he had falsified the data from his first experiments, and some critics have since expressed doubts that he actually conducted his infamous Ft. Lee experiment at all.
Comparing an unreleased version of C# to the available version of Java is just stupid.
C# 2.0 has been released, albeit it in a limited way. MSDN subscribers can download the.NET framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 beta. I'm working with it and loving it, except for a few annoyances.
While JAVA offers a bloated API, it is extensible and great for programming, unlike dot NET 1.1 which seems to be an attempt to build OO on top of a procedural framework that doesn't provide the programmer with the same level of flexability.
That is just plain wrong. On.NET, C# code is compiled to IL code, which is run on a fully object-oriented VM. Java Generics do not exist in the Java VM, but.NET generics DO exist in the 2.0 VM.
The other thing to consider is that dot NET means normally a purchase of Visual Studio, while JAVA normally means a free download of the JSDK and JCreator.
Again, you are wrong. You can download a Visual Studio Express 2005 beta for free! Granted, it's crippleware but still with an impressive functionality (especially when compared to JCreator).
The fact is that it's not a fact that temperatures are rising. Or do you global warmers still ignore the satellite record of the last 2+ decades?
* SNIP *
And the fact that they haven't risen in the 2+ decades that we've had a truly accurate global measure of temperature is also significant.
The very thesis of the Global Warming Theory is that less energy is radiated outward because of greenhouse gases. The observation that sattelite measurements do not show a rise in radiated energy (the only kind you can measure from space) only support this thesis.
How many libertarian Governors are there? How many greens are there in the senate? None. And you know why? Because it's a two party system where both parties are working very, very hard to keep it that way.
Futhermore, the moment the camera is designed, it's "lossy" since it has to be crunched down into an image of fixed color depth and fixed image size and pixelized.
Unless the image is saved in a raw format, which is exactly what DNG is. Raw data in this case means, the raw data directly taken from the sensors. This is done before any white balancing, denoising, downsampling, compressing and whatever your camera does with the image. Therefore all this processing can be done by software which in many cases can do it much better than the algorithms built into the camera.
The average photographer could not care less but for a serious photographer this can make a world of difference. A standardized format would mean that - if cameras support the format - tools could use that one standardized format, instead of all the different formats used by all the different cameras.
Cape Canaveral is located at N 27, while Arizona is located between N 32 and N 37. All space flights departing from N 27 will get a free 1336km/h boost in speed because of the rotation of the earth, while a rocket launched from the extreme southern part of arizona would 'only' get a 1272km/h boost. This may not seem like a large difference but because of the huge costs involved with hurling stuff into space it's a lot cheaper. For this reason, the ESA space program launches from Kourou in French Guinea, which is even closer to the equator.
Of course it would be a disaster if the shuttle program was seriously damaged by this storm. But one positive by-effect would be that NASA would be forced to consider better booster solutions. A lot of the work done by the shuttles could be done safer and cheaper by a booster.
There is very little difference in performance between VB.NET and C#. C# does have some features VB.NET does not have but frankly I think they will be of little importance in a programming contest. You are comfusing VB.NET, which - apart from the horrible syntax - is a mature, OOP language with VB6, which was a steaming pile of crap.
So basically us American gamers will have to become more trendy and shop at Ikea (and learn how to put a desk together) in order to stanc a chance.
Ikea is COOL in America? Here in the Netherlands, it's considered to be quite cheap and definitely not trendy (I have a lot of their stuff for that very reason).
Of course the tiny multitool included with their furniture does have a certain geek-appeal.
Even if some products don't pay for themselves directly they do pay for themselves indirectly because the base of Microsofts' marketing strategy is providing a total set of solutions. Even if SQL Server is not paying for itself, it is an additional argument to use Windows as a platform for for instance corporate websites.
Microsoft managers don't realize that we don't want to live in the little box that they construct for us. What you don't realise is that most people don't care. Most people who use a new search engine want to find relevant news. If the news is relevant, few will care whether its source is MSNBC or CNN.
As Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer become more and more bored with their business, and more and more tired with doing every day what they have done since they were teenagers, Microsoft is slipping more and more out of control. There are Microsoft people who aren't actually doing anything for anyone, but who have jobs there and want to keep them.
Why do you think so? Microsoft is highly profitable. I'd say that a rather robust indicator they're doing something right. From a business perspective their actions make total sense.
Mea Culpa, you are right. The Richter scale flats out for earthquakes larger than about 7 because it's based on the actual movements of a seismometer.

You might consider using the following formula:
Tactual_start_of_movie = Tlisted_start_of_movie + 20 minutes.
400.000 British Pounds that is, over 1.000.000 Canadian dollars. If that can't buy you a decent house, your standards are waaay to high :P
Well the American Dodgeball Association of America is evil for sure!
Dude, where did you take your chemistry classes. It's a well known fact that the main greenhouse gas in farts is methane (CH4) and not CO2
You are so ignorant.
This is a fusion reactor, not a fission reactor. When things go wrong in a fission reactor there is the possibility of a meltdown, etc. This possibility does not exist in a fusion reactor. The light on my desk actually accelerates particles to c all the time.

Thanks for brightnening up my rainy, hung over monday morning! There are pieces of breakfast on my screen :)
There are many tri-band handsets. In Europe it's a fairly standard feature for the high-end (and currently even middle-end) telephones.
One word: Latitude.

If they have an office there, surely it must be their main office.
Wrong.
Philips is Dutch, originally based in Eindhoven but quite recently their main office moved to Amsterdam.
