Its not EA's new ace. I dont give any credit to a company that BUYS good ideas and claims them as their own.

Will Wright is the mastermind of this one. Its Will Wright's next smash hit.

Screw EA, if they had their way, we'd all be buying 6 sports games a year, every year, and thats it.

EA is doing its part to provide slashdot with the weekly 'video games in a slump?' stories.

Will Wright is like a recently eaten explorer trapped inside a monsters body.

    Another thought:

Added bonus of having multiple copies on various PCs in a house, if you have more than one gamer you could buy a 2nd key to play online with legally. Content makers win, gamers win. Yay!

  5. Sell me the CD key on Galactic Civilizations II Breaks DRM Mold · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think, a strong deterrant to piracy, based off my own experiences and those of people I know is: Allow me to buy just the CD key (and patch it so it doesnt need the CD to play).

People will download the games, piracy isnt going to go away. But alot of games have awesome online play, that you can access with a stolen copy (usually).

So allow these people, who downloaded the game, to just buy a real KEY from you. Sell the retail box, a download copy, or just the CD key, users choice.

personally, It is very difficult for me to GO OUT and buy a game. My work schedule and living situation, plus where I am simply doesnt permit it more than once every three months. If I could download a torrent copy of a game, then purchase the CD key. Boy, we'd be in business.

Stupid slashdot! Great, now its public. I've had so much fun the last 2 weeks joining channels like 'teenlink69' and 'cyberz' on big networks and using the command.

Its good times watching 10-15 people drop at a time in the huge channels.

But now the fun will quickly disapear, thanks to slashdot. DOH!

But uh. Gateways have always sucked. So uh... suprise? Gateway has failed to do anything special for years, so simply being around in the 'make a crappy PC, set a low price, sell by the millions' game isnt enough. Remember Packard Bell?

  10. I was tought seven on Shark 6th Sense Related to Human Evolution? · · Score: 1

I was tought in school five, but I had a science teacher that argued seven.

The standard: Smell, touch, taste, sight, sound.

But then 2 more: Heat, because you dont have to touch anything to feel its hot. A more obscure definition of touch I guess.

And Time, he said people have an inherient ability to know about what time it is. He claimed NASA had proven this with rooms that have no windows or clocks or anything that would give away what time it is, and by having people live in it, on completely different schedules as everyone else. Apparently (and im paraphrasing/quoting here) they could guess with stunning accuracy what time it was and eventually realligned their schedules.

    Food for thought.

  11. Troll? Naw on 1 Billion iTunes Contest · · Score: 1

Troll nothing, its the sad truth. Shows exactly what a sad state the 'music' industry is in. I wonder how many wonderful artists are hidden away because they dont fit the tight mold it takes to sell millions these days. Just dont SUCK enough to make the cut. Actually, wherever they are, I hope they stay there.

  12. Re:Xbox live is going the way of the cell phone on Geometry Wars Reshapes The Past · · Score: 1

Good games for a few bucks is no big deal, and this is a successful example of a good game being bought for a price. In my opinion its not the majority, but I wont speak more there. Buying a game console, paying for an online service, then being charged extra for small, simple focused (although fun) games is unfair. Your acceptance of this just shows how the market is beginning to accept this as a honest business practice. If HBO started playing commercials during movies, Id be pissed. A online gaming service you pay for already charges you extra for skins, mini-games, ect and its no big deal?

  13. Xbox live is going the way of the cell phone on Geometry Wars Reshapes The Past · · Score: 2, Informative

Charging you for the right to pay money to download small, overpriced games, sounds and backrounds.

Obviously there is a ton of money in this, but this is just the first step in seeing this crap happen to video games on a widespread. Microsoft does it, then sony sees it works, and they do it, then Nintendo says what the hell and they go for it...

Finally, its acceptable for all console games, computer games to charge extra for things that used to be unlocked through persistance. Now, the guy whos winning isnt because he earned that super car you've always wanted to putz around in, its because he bought it. The guy whoopin your ass with his +5 of Infinate Chucknori saved up for it.

Video games take another momentus step down in quality, UP in profits. I wont be a part of it.

  14. Now that these nutty cyber terrorists are gone... on 19 Charged in Alleged Software Piracy Plot · · Score: 5, Insightful

We can all sit back and relax once again.

The frustrating/disappointing thing about all these lawsuits and 'victories' over piracy is that with every win, groups like the MPAA/RIAA only feel more firmly that their new business model (CRUSH, SUE, EXTORT, EXTERMINATE!) is a successful and long term one. Each time a major 'piracy bust' hits the news it only further propagates the myth that Piracy is what's driving declines in Movies, Music, Software and Games. When the real culprit (though, obviously Piracy does play some part) is Quality, Price, and the Media (DRM disks, copy once CDs, Theaters, Star-Force, ect).

But then again, I'm preaching to the choir here...
