As far as I can understand, a limited user can not access the cd drive, plus it got the permissions of the files all fucked up as well as the permissions of the registry. This is simply another case of M$ not being able to handle a simple concept that is handled so well under unix. And yes this is M$'s fault, they provide the platform they have the megabucks for R&D and QA, they have a monopoly, therefore they are responsible for getting it right.

I installed XP on my kids computer for one and only reason which is that it is suppose to have a security model, ie. i could set it up so that the kids could not install software on it. The number of assholes calling had dropped off in that last while leading up to the Oct 1st date. Now since Oct 1st we've recieved more calls than we have in the previous month. It seems that with things in a state of limbo the telemarketers are figuring on getting as many calls in as they can.

I used to tell them simply that i'm not interested and hang up. Now i tell them i'm on the list, call them names and generally abuse them. I can't understand what would make a telemarketer think that they would have a successfull call to someone who has actively taken measures that indicate that they explicitely don't want to receive them.

Is that they do not work for you. They work for themselves and they want to place bodies no matter what. Another thing is that they know that there is little chance that they will get repeat business from you but there is a good chance that they will get repeat business from the employer, therefore they are more interested in pleasing the employer than pleasing you. Third, they make a big stinking commision for placing you. Don't be shy to ask them for some of it. They will pay you a signing bonus if they have to.

Exactly, i was going to post the same comment. It really seems that M$ looks around the industry and for anyone successful and targets them. Why? who knows, maybe it's just their obnoxious big egos, maybe it's some sort of strategy that says they can leverage their monopoly and force anyone out of a target market. Most likely it is their paranoia, they are afraid that anyone that is successful will someday challenge them on their own grounds. And if there is one thing that M$ knows, it is that they can not compete on an even playing field.

Recently he said in a interview that he didn't think that the strips had lasting value because many of the things that they poked fun at are no longer relavant to todays readers. For the same reason I think the time is right for him to return, considering how much of has changed, I'm sure that he will have a lot of fun to poke at things like reality television and George the moron Bush.

One option is to have the box run a web server and control it from a laptop or maybe a small handheld device such as ipaq or palm pilot, or maybe even one of those lcd screen remote controls. All of which of course adds to the cost and complexity of the system.
