  1. Family Guy on Audio Broadcast Flag Introduced in Congress · · Score: 0
All of this reminds me of an older Family Guy episode:

Peter is watching Monday Night Football. He puts in a VHS tape and hits record. Suddenly, the front door crashes in. FBI agents rush in with guns drawn.
Agent: "Do you have the express written consent of ABC and the NFL?"
Peter (holds up a letter): "Just ABC..."
The agents cock their guns, and open fire at VCR.

So, this apparently could hold true for radio? RIAA agents with guns...yipee.

I haven't been able to read the article yet (/.ed), but I do agree with you.

What about simply backing up my personal data that doesn't contain music? If I backup my pictures from my camera, or documents, why is the music industry benefitting from it?

And if the Canadian government is concerned with media itself, why are CDs strictly the ones being targeted? There are plenty of other forms of media out there (flash, DVD, hdd), blank CDs happen to be the cheapest.

  3. Closer to $600 on Another Ars Ultimate Budget Box · · Score: 0
Good point, but it is more around the $600 (using those hardware specs) for Windows. If you pay over $100 for Windows ** Home, you're crazy. Microsoft has at least provided an OEM edition (full version) of their OS that does not come with a fancy box, manual, or tech support. The OEM version must be purchased with a non peripheral hardware component, but since your already buying the parts that's covered.

Current price for an OEM version of Windows XP Home averages around $90, Pro averages around $130. So, the $700 spec is a bit high.

So, I guess we've been wrong about test-tube babies; they're actually grown in Tupperware. Somehow I don't think this would be a strong selling point for Tupperware - "Helping keep fetuses fresh."

Besides, "Thou shalt not use embryos in scientific experiments" isn't in the Bible anywhere. I read it cover to cover. It's not there.

Of course it doesn't say, "Thou shalt not use embryos in scientific experiments," because such scientific experiments were not in existence over the time period that the canonical Bible was written. However there are principles found in the Bible that lead the reader to the conclusion that doing so would be against God's (The Creator of Life's) view of life.

God views the embryo as something precious. Psalms 139:13-16 says "You [Jehovah] kept me screened off in the belly of my mother...Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, and in your book all its parts were down in writing."

Also, when the Mosaic law was instituted, it covered injury of an unborn child. Exodus 21:22,23 says, "In case men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant woman and her children do come out but no fatal accident occurs, he is to have damages imposed upon him without fail according to what the owner of the woman may lay upon him; and he must give it through the justices. But if a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul." The original Hebrew text that was used here didn't apply to the mother, it refered to an accident against the mother or child.

So whatever personal views you may hold are entirely up to you and your conscience. However, the Bible does contain the principals necessary to see just how God views an embryo.

Actually, the Empire did look to Linux at first. However, they ran into a few complications:

The drivers for a superlaser were unfortunately closed source, and the Empire didn't want to bother with reverse engineering or tools such as ImpDSWrapper.

I think there were also problems in implementing ACPI with the huge reactor core. Every now and then, the tractor beams went into standby mode, and garbage crushers would unexpectedly shut off.

    1) I don't have cable at my house (not even basic or bunny ears)

    2) The show's material has significantly gone downhill in my opinion

Let me explain on point #2 a bit more

In the first two seasons, Family Guy was more of a spontaneous humor, entertaining because the jokes often came out of left field, having absolutely nothing to do in relation to what was going on. Season three got a bit more risqué, however they were still able to maintain their random sense of humor. Then, it got pulled from TV. Only after its success on DVD and Adult Swim (the first three seasons) did the networks realize they made a stupid mistake.

Then came season four, the new episodes. Judging from what I have seen on my brother in-law's TiVO (see reason #1) and from my freinds' opinions, I am not impressed. Most of the jokes are geared toward crude sexual humor. The writers only seem interested in pushing the line in this field. I personally don't find pedophillia jokes every single episode to be humorous. Most of the random humor has been lost, and to me, it's just not funny anymore.
