6? I was aware of the graphics (emotion engine) and the main CPU. Please clue me in on what 4 other processors this thing has, and no, the memory controllers and such do not count.
It's called the PS2 - it sucks. It only has 32 megs of ram, and a 300 mhz cpu. Granted, it's not a standard processor - it's pretty tricked out, but still, 300 mhz pales in comparison to the Xbox or a PC. I own a PS2 because I love the selection of games out for it, and for me, the graphics are acceptible - but if you check out a game like Far Cry on the PC and then play GTA on the PS2, you will be disappointed. Sony REALLY needs to make the PS3 kick a lot of ass, or they will fall behind the PC even further.
Yeah, if you use ColdFusion 6.X (aka MX) on a linux server, the administrator page can't be read in Mozilla because it's all source. It takes IE to administer it....
Well, that sucks. I paid for lifetime service for my tivo.... I do plan on moving at some point in time, and probably canceling DTV for a few months until I get settled in. So, you're sure that I will lose my lifetime tivo service that I paid for? I think I smell a lawsuit coming on....
You'd actually be surprised to find out then that Kia is tied with Toyota in the minivan market for lowest number of customer complaints regarding quality issues. I'm not saying you should buy one, but from what I can tell, Kia is just trying to market their vehicles well since nobody trusts the brand yet. If the company stands behind it for 10 years, I can only assume that puts out a positive message for the company.
Ok, in this case Sony SAT-T60 (and other DTV gen 1 tivos) needed this new upgrade to resolve guide issues about acuiring data, and some other closed captioning issues. I have the Sony SAT-T60, and I know a lot of other people who also have it, and are having this problem. You said:
"This appears to be an isolated issue that has only affected a small number of owners of much older Tivos (and in reality, ones that probably have a bunch of weird hacks). I'm sure Tivo is going to fix it, and the bug seems to be so obscure, it's probably wise of them to wait before even acknowledging it, especially when there's a chance the bug isn't related to a standard Tivo setup."
I guess if you call rain an isolated issue, you don't live in Seattle or any other place where it rains a lot. For the majority of people who own these boxes, this is an annoying issue that I hope they resolve quickly. And for the record, it has NOTHING to do with "weird hacks" as you put it. The problem 100% does exist with a standard Tivo set up, so don't minimize the effects of the problem for all of us who actually have to deal with it until Tivo fixes the issue.
To my surprise, I have found the same results. I've had 5 SCSI drive failures and 1 IDE drive failure in some servers I maintain over the last 2 years. That absolutely shocks me from what I understand about the hardware. However, I do have some extremely high volume servers that have lasted 4 years - and they are still using the same SCSI drives since day 1. I continue to have faith in those servers while running RAID 5 like they are. I just think it's luck, or maybe the SCSI drives spin faster (10k vs 7.2k RPM) which makes them wear out faster, I'm not sure.
Ok, with your freeipods.com link - I'm curious. I clicked on it, and it doesn't say a damn thing about what I will have to do to get one. Please explain....
Yeah, and the best part is - HE'S WRONG! He trashed my post, and it turns out I was correct. Everybody knows that the Xbox reads backwards like that. He was right, the PS2 does not - I don't know about the GC, I don't comment on cosoles I haven't worked with.
You can burn xbox games with single layer discs, and have been able to for 2 years now. The tough part is that the xbox data is burned backwards... from the outside of the disc in from what I understand. This means that no, you can't put an xbox game in your computer and just "burn" it. You have to read it with your xbox while having the xbox modded and running linux, and then copy the data over the network to your computer via ftp - and then burn the thing using Nero or whatever. Then, you have a copy that will load on the xbox. Having a dual layer burner has nothing to do with it.
I second that - I picked up a 5200 expecting it to trounce my Geforce 2 GTS for UT2004. My bad. My Geforce 2 GTS destroys this card - which also destroyed my faith in Nvidia's FX line of cards. It's sad when at the same settings my 4 year old video card outperforms a brand new one that came out in 2003. Nvidia shouldn't even consider selling these things.
Yeah, I know. I have gone through this procedure many times - and it does extend the life of the PS2, but in the end, every one that needed this has ended up not working. And no, I didn't turn up the power too much - on one of the machines, I had to turn it up approximately 5 times in small increments, where it would work for about a month after I did that, and then eventually get weak again. I just gave up.
Ok, you're talking about a hand held, I'm not. That's great for Nintendo, I applaud them. But I'm talking about Nintendo consoles:
NES SNES N64 Game Cube
None of those consoles will play the older generatiosn games. I think that stinks, but if you say the next console will play GC games, I again applaud nintendo for that.
I'll tell you why I need backwards compatibility - so I can have only one console taking up space in my entertainment center instead of 3. Also, I sell my old consoles on ebay to help afford the cost of a new one. So yes, it's a requirement for me most definitely.
What the hell do you want? Me to mail you the dead PS2s? How is factual accounts of dead machines which back up the the original poster qualify as ancedotal?
Well, I know 3 people with PS2s that ended up not working, and it has nothing to do with modding. It has to do with watching dvds on them. The damn lasers in the PS2 are worthless, the new models are better, but the old ones are horrible. First gen PS2 was a huge pile of crap in a lot of ways (it was noisy and the laser sucked to name a few). After a while, these PS2s quit loading DVD based PS2 games and DVD movies. The still seem to load CD based (blue backed games) without issue in most cases, even though the laser is extremely noisy when loading blue games. Enough evidence for you? Don't get me wrong - I own a PS2, and will also own a PS3. Why? Backwards compatibility. Xbox won't have it, Nintendo never has it, so PS3 it is.
I was comparing it to a gun, you fucktard. Imagine soldiers running around with smaller versions of these, firing them like guns. Then imagine a single shot could go 250 miles. That's VERY different than any other weapon. A bullet certainly doesn't have a 250 mile range.
Ok, so range - 250 miles? What happens if they miss the target... some random object/person gets blasted 250 miles down the road? Yeah, that sounds like a great idea...
Yes, I also have the 2500+ and it's amazing that it can go that high - if you get the mobile version, and you got a good one. I don't have the mobile, so I haven't tried to mess with it, but even at 1.83, it runs very cool for me - and having a quiet pc is more important than fast for me these days.
The moral of the story kids is that you need to copy the DVD the second you get it home from the rental store so you can watch it later. This will only hurt movie studios and rental stores, I guarntee it. DVD burners are very common now, and so is the software to copy movies. By making movies more expensive, they drive people further and further into this copying market. Good luck with that one, MPAA.
"There are 10 new holes in Windows XP - but the patches won't be out for weeks, so you'll need to buy the latest AV software from us to protect against it until the latest updates are out."
And there it is - it can be loud or quiet, depending on use - so when you called my comment half right and half assed, you were completely wrong. I was very informed on this topic, and I have no bias towards either PC or Mac as anyone who knows me could tell you. 8 to 9 fans in a system like this? That's insane. My PC has half that, and I run it under full load consistently (SETI, DNET, Movie Rendering, etc) in Colorado, where temps are in the high 80's to 90's all summer long, and I didn't build a machine that needs 8 to 9 freaking fans. I have a high performance graphics card, high performance memory, and a fast AMD cpu - and I'm willing to bet my life that my machine is quieter than any Apple G5 on the market. And, then there's your comment:
"Do not confuse the G5 with some of the homebuilt Athlon abominations that have poor layout, poor airflow, and require multiple screaming fans."
Trust me, I won't, and didn't. I compared a G5 to a machine I would build, or anybody could these days for that matter using very common cases, fans, and power supplies. My machine is not an abomination that requires screaming fans, I use Panflo low rpm fans, and my case is more than sufficently cool. Everything else in my system requires passive heatsinks and runs quit well thank you.
While you may have a quiet G5, many people don't - so you should check yourself before calling me half right and half assed buddy.

I have the exact same problem, using either Mozilla or Firefox. The stupid side bar overlaps, but hitting refresh quickly fixes it.
Well, that sucks. I paid for lifetime service for my tivo.... I do plan on moving at some point in time, and probably canceling DTV for a few months until I get settled in. So, you're sure that I will lose my lifetime tivo service that I paid for? I think I smell a lawsuit coming on....

No silly rabbit, you need a modchip.

Fine - but just remember, you made me do it:
