No, still not uninformed - if there were G5s being sold that got hot as hell because of the graphics card, and you just admitted it, I was right. Period. One of the "thermal zones" was hot as hell then, and the fans ran loud when on. Even a novice PC builder knows to find larger, low RPM fans to kill the noise - even when running at full power while reducing heat. Apple screwed up, and no fan boy can deny that.
The NEW G5 has quiet fans, the old one did not. I know a guy with one, it was twice as loud as my home built machines have ever been under load. So, Ignorant, no - talking about the old G5 - yes.
No I won't. I prefer a system I can build - to get a dual core k8 all I'll need is a new board and a single processor that doesn't require 5 loud fans in the case to keep it cool enough so I can actually use it without crashing.
The poster was right that said you were wrong. Raid 1 and 0 are very, very diffent. 1 is a mirror, while 0 is striping. Raid 5 is a combination of the 2 in some ways, but it requires 3 hard disks.
I don't know why you are having a hard time - he was a brilliant man who also liked to run Quake on an SGI workstation that he picked up at an auction - I would guess it ran at a blazing 3fps, and he still could whup my ass. Here is a picture of his dorm room in 1997:

He died about 5 years go - if he hadn't, I would have him email you the source code that he was very proud of. I remember it ran under the Zshell, but that's all I can remember about it.
So... you need a webserver to host the php script that is a web server. So, you run a web server on top of a web server? I'm missing the point entirely, but then again people have done crazier things. I once knew a guy who wrote a C++ compiler for his TI-85 calculator - and then wrote a web server for it - and the managed to connect a 14.4 external modem up to it through the little serial port on the bottom. I was amazed - but at the same time, I had to wonder why he had nothing better to do with his time...
No, that's not what I'm saying at all - you obviously missed my point. I said it's stealing because somebody without permission gained access to the machine in question, and stole the code. He didn't give it to anybody. If he had, it wouldn't have been stealing. Period. End of story. As far as "sharing" music goes, which I didn't even touch on in my post, yet you choose to accuse me of backing music pirates - but seriously, if I let a friend have CD, that's perfectly legal - and anybody who says it isn't doesn't know shit about copyright law, or lack there of.
Oh I'm not lazy - I do vote on local issues, and congress seats, etc. I'm just saying that the biggest election in our country has given us no good choices for the last few elections in my opinion. Gore or Bush. Well, how bout neither. Now Kerry or Bush. It's like deciding between having a cavity drilled at the dentist or plucking out all your noise hairs one by one. I just want the political system in this country drastically reformed, but voting either one of those yahoos doesn't accomplish that.
Who the hell should I vote for? Not Bush, not Kerry - what are my choices left?? Last election - I can't imagine Gore would have been a good choice, and Bush sure as hell was not a good one. If it didn't take massive amounts of cash to get into the running, maybe we would have a good canidate or two.
Yeah, I agree - Firefox has a better interface because it's a standard windows interface, not completely oddball like Mozilla. As far as the extras, those aren't bad things I don't think.
Well, you're lucky. The other poster and yourself seem to have good luck with discs, because if you do some actual research via groups.google.com or something similar, you'll find many, many, many people with my same complaint.
Before you go accusing people of things you have no clue about, read the post again. I said NERO. Not a dvd ripping program, NERO. I do a lot of archiving my old hi8 home movies via firewire onto my computer - and I send copies of these movies (mostly of my 1 yr old son) to my grandparents, parents, brother, etc. They all take an interest in his life even though he's a thousand miles or so from them. Sorry if you may find that odd - so get off your fucking high horse - because even if I did use a dvd ripper to copy movies, it would be of movies I own and want a backup of because when my son gets his hands on a DVD, it is never the same. He likes movies like Monsters Inc, and I'll be damned if I go buy a copy of it every time he helps himself when he wants to watch it. It's not the consumers fault the MPAA made an easily destructible media, and then chastize and try to make it impossible for people to back up this media.
You know what, screw these fast speeds. I hate it. I burn my DVDs at 1x because the Sony Playstation and other stand alone dvd players barf on discs that are even burned at 2.4x or higher. 16x is just plain stupid, really stupid. What in the hell would use that for? You couldn't play it in an Xbox, PS2, or 90% of stand alone dvd players. Yeah yeah, I know - the disc type matters - but even the best discs barely read in my PS2 burned at 2.4x. Barely is being generous. What I REALLY want is the ability to burn a damn DVD at whatever speed I want BELOW the disc type. If I buy a 4x disc, I can only burn it at 4x using Nero and any other cd burning software. Screw that. If I want to burn it at 1x, I should be able to damn it.
Crash Team Racing (CTR) for PS1. It did a great job of copying Mario Cart. Unoriginal? You bet. Fun as hell? Oh yeah. I never had an N64, but I played Mario Cart on a friends, and was extremely pleased to see a "version" of it come out on PS1. It wasn't exactly the same, but I actually prefer the PS1 Crash version better.
Ok, a few things..... First, you said decent case and power supply. Yes, you can get a case and power supply for $35 - $50 using sites like www.mwave.com. However, if you give a crap about your system and plan on putting in a kick ass video card later, don't ever use the power supplies that come with these cases. They will underpower your whole rig, and then you'll be sorry when you have to replace the motherboard due to bad power. Read this article, and you'll understand a lot more about power supplies and why free ones with cases are bad:
Second, I agree with you that memory is not as important as some people pay for it, but still, 2-2-2 memory is faster than the standard stuff you get, and does indeed improve performance if the rest of your rig is able to keep up already.
Yes, we do know they won't have it - unless they are seriously trying to piss off all linux and windows developers. According to Intel specs, their IA-32e does not have that bit. Little late to change it now. And like I said, Intel IA64 does NOT have the NX bit, which is what the original poster was talking about, but I'll believe you that it has the XD bit, which is not the same as NX. It may have the same functionality, but it is not the same. And obviously I meant to spell waekly as weakly. Intel just wants people to equate their IA-32e with AMD64, and make it seem that it's not really 64 bit. It's a gay marketing trick that only makes them look like a pouting child.
That's the point - consoles are all DRM'd - but would you want your PC to be? In my case, hell no. Double hell no. I want my PC and DRM game console completely seperate, thank you.
What I mean is - what it will cost me to upgrade to Exchange XX so that I can use these new features on my mail server at work? For my linux mail servers, no prob - I'll just upgrade to the latest version of sendmail when it supports these new spam fighting features. But, I have a feeling if my company were to purchase Exchange 2k3 right now, we'd just have to buy the next version that has all this built in. Damn closed, non-free software.
Exactly - I remember being a kid and seeing the commercials for the original Star Wars on TV, and I harassed my parents everytime they came on TV until they took me to see it at the drive in. That movie strongly appealed to kids, and the first movie was hugely successful. I must have rented it on Video Disc a hundred times after it hit the rental market. It wasn't a great movie, but to a kid, it didn't matter - they had glowing swords and laser guns! What people tend to forget is that Lucas is writing for kids mostly. You have to look at the new movies from a kids point of view to know if they compare to the originals or not.
Because if FC1 is what RH says it is, aka the replacement for their RH versions of their OS, it should run on a server just fine. I have many servers running standard RH releases just fine - so no, I'm not an idiot. You are proving my point - people wouldn't dare use FC for a server because it's not what RH says it is - which is a replacement. It's not stable in my expierence, and it's not as functional because of some lacking packages.

Wow, I was very unaware of that. That's very interesting. That makes these new php uses make a little more sense to me.
So... you need a webserver to host the php script that is a web server. So, you run a web server on top of a web server? Yes, there is a difference. For one thing, somebody hacked into the guy's computer to get it. He didn't *share* it with anybody.

Yes, but does it encrypt the data stream so people can't spy on what your download? If not, it's still just another file sharing app people won't use.
Yes, we do know they won't have it - unless they are seriously trying to piss off all linux and windows developers. According to Intel specs, their IA-32e does not have that bit. Intel's IA64 chips do not use this bit - nor does their waekly named IA32e chips.
What I mean is - what it will cost me to upgrade to Exchange XX so that I can use these new features on my mail server at work? Does the new kernel directly support SATA controllers and drives? Most new computers I have built recently use SATA hard drives.
Exactly - I remember being a kid and seeing the commercials for the original Star Wars on TV, and I harassed my parents everytime they came on TV until they took me to see it at the drive in.
