    Yup, the Threadripper machine I'm planning will definitely have RAIDed NVME SSDs but probably only RAID1. With RAID5 the write performance would suffer (as well as wear) and I don't need the capacity - yet.

    Hardware RAID is obsolete. Even the big boys like NetApp use SW RAID with SIMD instructions on standard CPUs these days.

    If you have the bandwidth you can do the same with your OS based RAID instead of BIOS based. Whether you load your couple MB of boot code from a RAID or a single drive won't matter.

    I re-built a known-to-work project and it failed when I tested the new build (where the program written in Go was maybe one thousandth of the total code size.) A few hours of debugging later I found that the Go developers had made a "breaking" change in the SSL client code a few weeks earlier.

    I use LibreOffice. Never had a problem with PowerPoint compatibility in either direction.

    We mill have neither. Those machines are way too expensive and need lots of energy. And we're deforesting, not planting trees.

    I tend to disagree. The more of a platform in the open they have the more effect their propaganda has. Americans are very receptive to propaganda; they've been trained all their life to listen to PR.

    That's exactly what I do. Especially the super annoying banner planes on the coast on a summer weekend. I make a point to remember the product so I'll never ever buy it, or turn it on in case it's for a radio station or TV show.

    It's only corruption as long as the politicians (and judges) that you paid off haven't made it legal yet. After that it's "contributions" or "financing".

    VM software is free (VMware or KVM.)
    Windows is free too (license from an old box or running unlicensed.)

    I've been there for a long time. Use Linux and jail Windows in a VM for the few corporate things that you have to use. Problem solved.
