Yeah, in the future computers may weigh no more than 1.5 tons and 640K of memory is enough for anybody...
For the last 9 years I've been doing embedded development; the last 7 years using a Linux desktop. Some of the devices produced by my company ran QNX until a couple years ago, but now it is all Linux.
Email and those pesky "business applications" are still operating on Windows though. Rumour even has it the IT department is considering Vista.
Despite a few glimples of sunlight we're still on the dark side...
I live in Los Angeles, not far from Beverly Hills and all that. Around here Ferraris are about as common as palmtrees. I think I'd pay a lot more attention if I saw a Tata Nano.
But to me they are about equally valuable; I wouldn't want either.

If US companies want to keep US workers in the US, they should offer them so attractive working conditions (this includes working environment, good salaries, and job security for those who are concerned with such) that they don't want to leave. US citizens are free to leave the country if it suits them, and if we are to continue calling this country a "beacon of freedom" or whatever the latest slogan is, then it will have to continue to be that way.
And if Microsoft has such a hard time finding workers in the US, why aren't they looking into hiring some of Motorola's castoffs?

No, not new windshields. Cracked windshields. If the crack is small, glass shops repair it. For this purpose they use something that starts out as a liquid and works like magic. The windshield appears to be as good as new afterwards.
But if used on cable it would probably just stick the strands together or something.
There is no evidence that photography has EVER been used by terrorists in planning an attack. Not even once in the history of terrorism.
And believe it or not, of all the ridiculous laws passed using 9/11 as an excuse, not even one mentions photography. So the security guards/incompetent cops who use 9/11 as an excuse for telling people they aren't allowed to take photos are out to lunch. And they ought not come back on duty till they have learned the law.
I've got relatives in Norway. Actually, most my relatives live in Norway, except those who live in the Netherlands.
Norway is known for it's high tax rates. Most people pay 50% or more of their income in taxes. That is, they pay 50% or more of their taxable income in taxes. Since there appears to be no end of deductions one can take in Norway, most my relatives pay less taxes than me, despite having higher incomes.
As if that wasn't enough, they can buy an iPhone with only a one year contract. Which can't be extended foreer and ever, like the contract I would be expected to sign if I bought an iPhone in the US. As if that wasn't enough, the Norwegian cell phone plan would be cheaper than the US one. Even if I had an iPhone purchased in Norway and used it in the US.
Even if I kept using my old Sony Erickson phone, a Norwegian cell phone plan would be cheaper. Even if I used it in the US.
Other countries probably have even better rates. AT&T needs competition. REAL competition.
This may come as a surprise to you, but Apple isn't required to be everything to everybody. They aren't even required to produce the computer that you want.
And like others point out, their stock is doing quite well at the moment. I ought to know, I'm making good money off it!
And it isn't just the discrimination from the men in power. I am a woman who have been in typical "male" professions all my life, and in addition to the ridicule, discrimination, and belittling from men, I have often been harassed by women who consider my job/education choices to be inappropriate for a woman.
What we need is to start seeing people as individuals with their own set of interests and abilities instead of grouping people into two gender groups with stereotypical interests and abilities. Then both women and men could get the education and jobs they are interested in and have abilities for, which I think would be much better than channeling everybody into so-called gender-appropriate fields.
If quotas help, I'm all for it. Otherwise not.
After a couple years of being slow, rude and outright obstructive when telemarketers called me, I was down to about 3 calls a week. Not too bad, but I thought I could do better and signed up for the DNC.
Big mistake!
Afterwards every charity, pollster and politician started calling me at least once a day each.
In the end I got rid of the landline because I had the phone unplugged most the time anyway.
For me, that was what it took to be able to eat dinner in peace and quiet.
Yeah, and all the US clients will be searched once they re-enter the US.
Before taking a weekend trip to Toronto a few weeks ago, I did a double Time Machine backup (two backups because I'm paranoid of losing my data) of my Powerbook, then wiped the hard drive, installed a slightly obsolete version of Mac OS X and a minimum of applications and files.
On the way back I was, as expected, hassled by customs but they found nothing of interest on my laptop and let me go in time to reach my connecting flight. The woman next to me wasn't so lucky; she had four years of photos of her grandkids and the dog on her laptop.
In hindsight I realized somebody ought to have wondered why I had a four year old laptop with a recently installed 250GB drive, but only about 15GB of applications and data.
If I lived on a tropical island I might not be so positive to evacuation, but I live in Iowa. Just tell me where I'd be evacuated to and I'll consider it!
Well, that's already available online. We usually refer to it as Pr0n.

Looks more like a crack and a hole to me.

Superglue? Duct tape? Or maybe that magic stuff they use to make cracks in car windshields go away?
In the age of the intarwebs undersea piracy has replaced piracy on the high seas!
I don't really think anybody wants to show off the fact that they have nano-nuts...
What if it turns out they are just like us?

Just one word: Diebold.
If he had put that much effort into studying and learned what he was supposed to, maybe he wouldn't have had to alter any records to get A's?

USA?
In other words, about as accurate as the previous national intelligence estimate!
