I see two things wrong with your post--no verb for the initialism in the subject line, and there is in fact text in your post, despite the (n/t) in the subject line.
At my polling place they ask me if I want a paper ballot or electronic one. I ask for paper. Yes, it ends up getting read by an opscan machine, but at least there's still a paper copy that they can look at to see how I really voted. There are still risks involved (see the aforementioned Hacking Democracy), but I'd rather take those chances than risk my absentee ballot not counting towards anything at all. Remember that most states don't count absentee ballots until after election day, which means that the preliminary results are already tabulated and one of the nominees has usually conceded.
You can still see how the comments have been modded by percentage (not that it always adds up to 100)? That disappeared for me about 6 months ago. I've tried getting it back, but I've never found the pref for it. Anyone?
So start an organization that will fight on behalf of a group of people, funded by contributions from those people. The financial burden is too much for one person, so split it among thousands of people.
I'm still surprised this isn't happening more often. The internet is the perfect tool to organize something like this, spread the word and secure donations. So short of a few big organizations like the ACLU, why isn't it happening?
Yeah, there should be an organization, a foundation if you will, that will help us with the battles on this new electronic frontier.
Why does he want a cellphone if he's blind? I mean, he won't be able to use the camera. He can't send text messages. Can't use it for games or videos. I suppose he could listen to mp3s. What? He wants to make phone calls. Good luck finding a cell phone that's good at that....
Generally with deposits you get your money back when you return the item. I'd assume that's how this one works, but I would double-check with them before I gave them my money. Not that I'd give them my money in the first place....
I think your analogy would be a bit more apt if the "prize" was closer to $5 and the t-shirt. But I totally agree with your assessment of the situation.
That was my thought, too. Reading through the challenge page, all I could think was "a whole 40 bucks?!?" I mean, even if I could do it, I'm not sure I'd waste my time for 40 bucks and the title of "recovery king".
I take back my earlier comment. You've taken my obviously stupid idea and figured out how it could, in all actuality, work. It wouldn't work very well, as you mention, but it could work. Kudos.
I'm not sure which to be more disappointed in--the fact that someone modded me 'interesting' or that someone actually took the time to explain why my obviously stupid idea wouldn't work. : p
So when do we get the mobile phone telescope? We just need to get thousands of people to point their cellphone cameras at the same spot in the sky, right?
I think F34nor's description is a little on the lyrical side. The music isn't quite fractal, but it definitely jumps around between time signatures a fair bit. If you like Slint, you may want to check out some stuff by Breadwinner or Rodan too.
Explorer.exe would crash when I tried to delete (via the delete key) or right click on any executable or shortcut. This was very consistent and horribly obnoxious. This seemed to trigger AVG virus scans that would then cause my hard drive to go into heavy read mode for a few minutes. Also, my USB thumb drive wasn't being recognized by the system some of the times when I put it in. No idea if it affected the DVD drive since I didn't use it during the week this was happening. The thing is that I hadn't fired up Bioshock or Steam at all in the past 3 weeks or so, so it really seems to be SecuROM just choking on itself in some way. A full uninstall using the removal utility fixed all of these problems.
Sorry, I literally got control back of my system about 30 minutes ago, so it's fresh in my mind (why my post starts with 'Funny'). And sorry, but not being able to use my computer thanks to a game I paid for is a serious WRONG in my book. If they remove the protection I'll reinstall it and pick up where I left off, and then maybe I might be able to tell you what they did "right" in the game. I'm sure there're plenty of good things there.
Yeah, I found out about the upcoming PS3 version a week or so after I bought the game. I probably would've held off for that. I may still pick it up used at some point, but I'm not paying full price--especially not after nearly hosing my computer.
I thought the horror stories about SecuROM were overblown, like most things online are. Now that I've actually been through them myself (see my post above), I'm sad to say that they're not. I'm fully joining the boycott of any game or game company that utilizes this "protection scheme". The only thing it's protecting them from is my money. Sorry game developers and publishers, but it's the truth.

No worries. I figured you meant something like that. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for a little jab. : )
after which you have a lovely H264 or AVC file
Wow, H264 or AVC? What if I want an MPEG-4 Part 10 file?
Ahh, thanks. I liked it better when it just showed it underneath the post. But it's good to know that it's still there.

Actually I meant it as more of a sarcastic attempt at humor, with a touch of truth behind it. But your interpretation is okay by me.

And The Black Hole was a 1979 Disney movie. I didn't realize there were candy/movie tie-ins like this that predated ET.
Can you point me to a motherboard to put those thousand processors in? And a case that's big enough, too?
Of course you know the average person is just blind and death and can not hear or see the subtlety that good video and audio gear offer.
If they're death then what does it matter if they're blind?
Zombie Network Explosion? Wasn't that a Flash game on some site?
