  1. What Do You Like Best About Working Here? on What Questions Should a Prospective Employee Ask? · · Score: 1

I've found this question will give you a lot of interesting insight into a company and the motivations of their employees. You can tell right away if they are blowing smoke up your ask or actually like working there.

I actually agree with you. My wife would kill me if I tried to string up extension cables across every room just so I can tweet my power usage. Not to mention, I don't know if a single plug could handle all the stuff in my television/computer room. Besides, how many houses do you know that plugs every electrical device into a socket or even 110? What about the Fridge and the dryer?

Give me a way to measure my whole house, then graph it over time, then I can do something with this.

  5. GH or CD Version on Lars Ulrich Pirates His Own Album · · Score: 1

I bet he downloaded the Guitar Hero version because the over engineered free CD the label gave him sounded like crap.

Hey, Lars deserve a good copy of the CD, even if he didn't pay for it either.

  6. You Reap What You Sow on The Art of The Farewell Email · · Score: 1

We had an employee that was let go because he told a customer to F off on the phone. Apparently, he had been doing this quite a bit and finally got caught.

After he was let go, he sent a scathing email back to the company and told me and another supervisor to F off. He also mentioned in the email that he had gotten on at the local sheriff's department and his life was Sooooooo much better now. The idea of him carrying a gun was kind of scary.

A few weeks later, HR gets an unemployment request from the state for this ex-employee. It turns out that he didn't make the first cut during his training and somehow getting cut during training was not grounds for getting unemployment. HR forwarded his email and a request to deny unemployment to the state due to the fact that we were not his last employer. They agreed and denied him unemployment.

It was quite the poetic moment for me.....

  7. UT3 Was A Game Changer on Unreal Tournament 3 "Titan Pack" Expansion Coming In March · · Score: 4, Insightful

for me. It's the game that made me decide that Epic no longer made good games and had all but abandoned the PC.

I loved UT, 03 and 04. But UT3 was really bad.

  9. BF42 Revisited on EA Unveils Two New Battlefield Games · · Score: 1

I played BF42 for years. When BFV came out, I played it up until BF2 came out. I played BF2 for a while, then walked away.

Guess where I went? BF42. Even though the graphics are outdated and the maps lack any kind of resemblance of terrain, it's been the most fun of any of the games.

The WWII mod for BFV was a huge improvement over BF42. The same game, but better. The only downside was the 3 maps. If BF43 is the same game, but with a better engine, I would pay for it. I just wish they would stop dicking around and put out a full blown version.

For the record, I hate EA. I hate the lack of patch support. I hate DRM. But BF42 was such a phenomenal game, I am willing to look past that even for 3 maps. Past that, I've avoided everything to date.

  11. Is This Really About Theft? on EMA Suggests Point-Of-Sale Game Activation To Fight Piracy · · Score: 1

I can see the writing on the wall. At first, they will claim it is to fight piracy, then at some point it will be combined with Internet Activation to prevent resale.

We all know it's not theft, but resale that costs the game company Millions of Dollars.

  12. Re:What? (Think Again) on Internet Radio's "Last Stand" · · Score: 1

You would think it wasn't affected, but the truth of the matter is Talk Radio is also required to pay a per listener fee to Soundexchange for broadcasting over the Internet. It's slightly lower, but still required. The thought process is they might play music that is commercial. Given RIAA logic, that means they must pay all the time.

That is why NPR fought so hard to prevent the higher Royalty Rates. They knew it would kill the growing Internet side of their broadcast.

I ran two Internet Radio stations myself. I have already shut one down and I am debating shutting the second one down. The whole situation makes me sick at my stomach. I use to love music, but not any more.

Simple enough to pick up in less than five minutes, stylish enough to look cartoony and yet cool all at the same time, TF2 also has a surprise element of just enough strategy to be fun and engaging while encouraging teamwork.

Sure, it took 10 years to develop, but the game that introduced me to the online FPS with the original Quake version in 1996, is again a game that makes me believe that someone understands that games are meant to be fun.....
