I am far from being too old to try something new. But from my experiences as pretty much my companies only IT guy on payroll (excluding the consultant that is here once a week), installing OSX on my PC would be pointless. As I have said before there are too many compatibility issues.
My company is a PC based company and x-fering files from mac to PC is a nightmare (I know this from first hand experience). As for my home computer, I use it primarilly for gaming, and about 90% of the games I play aren't compatable with OSX. Hence it would serve no purpose for me to waste a few gigs that could be holding music, porn, or more games.
From what I have seen of OSX I just don't like it. I like my programs to be in determinable "Windows" not just floating around my desktop.
You can install OSX on your PC, and i think you should.
And why would I want to install an OS that isn't compatible with MOST of my software, will just eat up hard drive space sice I will NEVER use it for anything practicle, and wont prevent my PC from getting viruses/trojans/worms? Seems pretty pointless to me. I'll just stick to windows and keep myself well protected as I have for years now.
All the over confident mac users not using any anti-virus software, sooo sure that they are immune to any viruses just because they use a mac.... I cant wait till they all get infected
Please tell me there is a hot coffee mod for this game. I refuse to believe R* has gone soft on us. All the resourses to make this glorified Pong could have been put into finishing their Bully game. Honestly, what would you rather do play ping pong, or beat the crap out of classmates for no reason? I'll be taking peoples lunch money... I can play with balls any time I want.
Think of Super Mario jumped on mushrooms and they turned into happy angels instead of dead pancakes? Or in Unreal Tournament you fire paintballs, or tickle people at close range? Or in Mortal Kombat you have a tickle fight, and instead of ripping out a heart, you read the woozy opponent a bedside story. I think it would sell just as well. A game doesn't have to be violent, it can be funny and still be as fun.
I would NOT buy any of the dumbed down versions you mention. The whole reason people play Mortal Kombat is..... (drum roll) THE VIOLENCE. You take that out and all you have is another version of Street Fighter. And if you think jumping on mushrooms and squashing them is violent, you really gotta get out of the house more often, or just turn on the local news.
People of age should be able to enjoy violence in their games. Hell look at Hollywood... Are we going to take all the violence out of movies? That would kill off most action & horror movies, just as removing violence from games would kill off ALOT of generes and is just plain unfair to us Adults who choose to play the games.
Instead of banning violent video games they should ban bad parenting.
I have been playing video games for about 23 years now. As most of you know 99% of games involve violence. Weather its slicing someone's head off GTA style, or eating a ghost in Pac-Man.
As a child my parents taught me the difference between right & wrong, and real & fake. I can pick up my controller and go on a mass killing spree, but I dont go jump on the subway and start laying waste to my fellow commuters.
Video games dont make people violent. Lack of propper parental supervision causes a kid to be "bad".
I am an adult, and if I want to play violent games, who the hell has the right to tell me I cant? I was not aware we turned into a Dictatorship.
I personally would love to see the blackberries shut down. I work in a real estate agency and all the brokers use them. I would LOVE to see the havoc caused if these self-proclaimed "important people" cant get their messages on the spot. They really need to learn that not everything needs to be done 5 minutes ago.
My point is that many people already have these things and throwing them into the PS3 is just going to jack the price. Honestly, $400 is a lot to pay for a game system packed with features when I already have 5-6 machines that can do the same already.
I must admit you make a very valid point. $400 for a game machine is a bit excessive. But you are talking to someone who is willing to fork over $400+ for a new video card when I get my tax returns. I am also planing to pick up the Xbox 360, when they become available again, and of course I will be getting a PS3 but I may just wait for the price to drop.
I also agree that it would be stpid to watch DVDs and listen to CDs on the console when I have a perfectly good Home theater system, BUT if you look at Xbox, you were able to burn CDs onto the hard drive and use them as ingame soundtracks. THAT WAS FREAKING BRILLIANT. Also IMO all consoles should come equiped with network adapters, as more people are playing multiplayer games with others around the world.
"No, there's definitely a such thing as 'too much' on a gaming console"
I tend to disagree, I believe sony is setting the bar, and microsoft is right behind them. I believe it is way more possible for a gaming console to have "TOO LITTLE" just take a look at Nintendo's Lamecube. It does NOTHING other than play games, and ONLY with people in the same room. Hello, Nintendo didn't anyone tell you how popular network gaming is? EVERYONE else is doing it. IMO Sony will dominate in this generation, as it did in the last.
Boss: "You aren't leaving till you are lvl 60 or you wont have a job to come back to tomorrow"
Me: "but sir, I am only lvl 2 on this server, if you would let me use my server i'd be 60 by now"
Boss: "Thats it you're fired, pack up all your mana potions and leather hides by 5PM, oh and leave your gold."
You are right, its not like han squeezed in there too, and as much as Han is the man I doubt he would survive the night out in the opened on Hoth.
Now a side note from a pissed off Star Wars fan. Why is it that R2 has these really cool thrusters in the past (Ep 1-3) but then he falls in the swamp on Dagobah? Why didn't he just fly to land? That has been bothering me since I saw him with the thrusters. Someone please tell me or I will have to personally hunt george lucas down.
Either nintendo's revolution will flop, much like the Dreamcast did (only difference will be, Dreamcast was a good system), and Nintendo will stop producing consoles and only work on games/handhelds.
OR
Nintendo will sell to a company that isn't as anal retentive about releasing games with more mature themes. After all not everyone wants to play pokemon and dragonball.
You do make some very good points. The games I grew up playing range from Commodore 64, Intellivision, Colicovision, NES, and SNES. I remember some of my favorite games were on NES and SNES. But after so many years of playing them, I want NEW fun games. Alot of the games i see on any Nintendo system just doesn't appeal to me.
As for N64 being the most fun, I must disagree. It only had 1 RPG (if you'd call it that) Remember Quest 64? I am a big RPG fan and i couldn't play that poor excuse for a game for longer than an hour. However, I will admit I spent countless hours playing the wrestling games, but other than that i didn't really use the 64 much. Now lets move on to Zelda, The first one was great, topped only but "Link to the Past", Orcarina of Time was ok, I didn't really like the 3D aspect, and all the others (zelda 2, mask of majora, and wind waker) I couldn't get into at all.
By Mature, I didn't mean pointless nudity. BMX XXX was Tony Hawk on a bike with topless chicks. It was also released for all 3 systems, I have all 3 and when I have the choice, I ALWAYS pick Xbox (not that i would ever buy BMX XXX). RE4 is a great game, but its even better for PS2 where the series originated.
Both Sony and MS has to realize though that the kinds of games that makes their console platforms popular (sports and multiplayer 3rd person shooters) don't make a handheld system popular. People that like Nintendo Gameboys like puzzle games, RPGs and platformers, as well as novelty games that feature touch screen or card readers, not sports or 3rd person shooters. To compete well against Nintendo means to recognize the types of games that make the Gameboys popular and catering to that audience, rather then simply porting successful game console titles to handheld versions.
I disagree, the reason i got a PSP is because it is NOTHING like anything nintendo ever released. I dont want to play pokemon, I want to play GTA, Madden, and multi-player shooters. Yes I also like RPGs but nintendo doesn't really have any good RPGs anymore since Square signed with Sony, and Xbox has a huge RPG selecion which they can port over to a handheld. Just Imagine the possibilities...
The first traditional Mario game that went 3D was for the Nintendo 64
Yes I am aware of that, it was Mario 64. What I ment is after N64 was released Mario went 3D
there's only been one additional 3D Mario game since then - Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo GameCube.
Not true, Even though Lugi's Haunted Mansion didn't star Mario, I still consider it a mario game. IMO Mario 64 wasn't all that great once you get over the hype, Lugi's Mansion was just horrible and Mario Sunshine was even worse. But that is just my opinion, you are free to disagree.
If anyone is going to get killed off its nintendo. They just aren't making good games anymore. Sony and Microsoft are releasing 3 times more games. That alone stands to reason with that many more games there are bound to be more good games, that appeal to more people. Nintendo with their quality over quantity policy alienates them from a big part of the market. Not everyone wants to play pokemon, super smash melee, and mario party. Some of us like mature themes, and nintendo just doesn't deliver.
Finally some real competition for the PSP. I only hope they have a better battery life. I am confident it will be as good if not better than the PSP as the Xbox was the most powerful of its generation.
I'd say Microsoft's biggest worry should be the Xbox 360 as it is the first of the Next gen consoles. PS3 just might steal the show. As for the revolution.... well that just seems like a big joke to me and i refuse to waste my money on it.
GTA isn't their only good game. Have you seen Untold Legends? I was hooked on that game. And a portable DVD/MP3 player is great for long trips. I have seen the DS lineup and its nothing to brag about... Unless ofcourse you like pokemon or other child related themes.
What happened? What happened to all the great games i grew up playing? It seems to me they are just running out of ideas and the ones that they are dreaming up now just revolt me. Take Mario for example, all the Mario games for NES and SNES were great, then after N64 it went 3D and each new game is worse and worse.
Last year I was looking to finally get a handheld (i never liked them before but wanted a little entertainment on my commute). I look at the games and graphics for the DS and it looked HORRIBLE. Then along came the PSP with boasts of GTA wherever I go. That alone sold me. Now I can play fun games with great graphics, watch full length movies or downloaded movie clips, listen to my MP3s, Hell it even supports emulators. Now I ask you, why would anyone pick DS over PSP?
I hate the summer because of the heat. Now my winter has been stolen. Its crazy 50-60F weather in January. Where did the snow and ice go? If winter is this hot imagine the hell we are in for come July & August
By lowering the voltage to the processor you can not only drastically lower the heat dissipation, but also increase the battery time significantly.
But wouldn't that significantly reduce the speed of the processor? If so it will take longer to perform the tasks, and that pretty much cancels out the longer battery life... No?
We are borg, from this point foward you will service, US. Resistance is futile.
I am far from being too old to try something new. But from my experiences as pretty much my companies only IT guy on payroll (excluding the consultant that is here once a week), installing OSX on my PC would be pointless. As I have said before there are too many compatibility issues.

Yeah, and Bush also wants to go to Mars.
Ok so if we all chip in do you think we'll have enough to send him on a 1 way trip?
You are right, its not like han squeezed in there too, and as much as Han is the man I doubt he would survive the night out in the opened on Hoth.
