Most ISPs have a seperate product class for businesses than for private use. Business class accounts would probably be free from the email restriction unless some really messed up network traffic was coming out of that line.
You're lucky. I get over 300 spams a day, every day. And the volume of virus infected email I get is astounding. And then there are all of the "email returned - infected" automated emails I get every day (which is really funny since I use a Mac). If it wasn't for my ISP using Postini, my mailbox would unusable.
I still remember the day that last major email virus hit the Net (the one before Blaster). I was getting upwards of 5,000 messages a day, either infected, or automated rejected notices.
I wish every ISP on earth would shut off the connection of every infected computer on their net. It's not really that hard to look at the traffic coming out of these machines and see what they are doing.
No, it's a console. A console is am optomized, purpose built computer. It doesn't matter what the parts inside it are. They only matter in the capabilities they bring to the device. What matters is that all copies of said device are functionally identicle and that the device is only doing one job at a time. eg: running your game.
Gene Roddenbury created Trek, but Gene Coon made it good. It took years and a captive audiance of thralls to make Next Gen any good. What Star Treks needs is another Gene Coon, and te B5 guy (sorry, I can't spell his name) might just be the guy.
Completely different hardware architecture. It's a lot harder to emulate a hardware platform that it looks. Even with computers six times faster than the XBox there are no working XBox emulators out there. And look at the horsepower needed to emulate a PSOne on a PC.
The PS2, one of teh few consioles to bother with backwards compatibility, has a PSOne core burried inside of it to do I/O operations for the PS2. It was pretty cheap to flesh out the core and let it run PSOne games thus making the PS2 PSOne compatible.
I still use DOS WP5.1 to this day. It's no longer my main word processor, that's Open Office Writer. The most recent job I've enlisted WP5.1 in is converting old DOS text files intio word processor files with carriage returns on at the end of paragraphs and other little details that modern word processors seem incapable of doing with old text files. It has one of the best scripting systems I've ever played with.
The problem with that is that the asymetry in the human body is not random. One side of the body, the left side in most people, is slightly larger than teh right. Every tailor in the world knows this. The side you "dress" towards is usually the larger side.
they even say that eyes and mouths don't move correctly when the characters speak.
That's not really an issue in games with primative graphics. The closer to realism you get, the worse the effect becomes.
the article is very self-contradictory in the sense that it continues to claim that as graphics get more humanlike, they get more creepy, but the creepiness is due to the differences, not the similarities
No. Look at games with cartoonish designs. Is it creepy when the character's mouth moves wrong? Does the excess of unnatural movement bother you? Does the absence of natureal movement bother you? No. It doesn't.
But look at more realisticaly styled games. One example that comes to mind is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Watch the mission briefings between the young agent and the old guy behind the desk. Watch how the old guy's movements are bizzare and unnatural and how his lip syncing is off. He's creepy looking. Not because he's designed to be, but because he looks like a corpse with pneumatics hidden under the skin.
The point, and you seem to have missed it entirely, is that once you reach a certain level of realism the minute differences between a real human and a synthetic one grow exponentially in your mind and they creep you out.
As for realistic paintings, yes, they do look creepy if the artist doesn't have the skill to mix in realistic emotions and bridge that last 1% gap. And still images are a lot easier to pull off than animated ones. Look at that "Final Fantasy" movie: Aki Ross (?) looked very nice in still shots, but looked creepy and unnatural in motion.
Not that anyone will read this far down, but... I got so tired of the virii, worms, malware and other security headaches. So, after trying Linux and discovering that it's not yet able to meet my personal needs, I moved to OS X and have never looked back.
That might be a DRM consession to the RIAA. Only one remote device at a time might be something the RIAA isn't likely to get their panties in a twist over.
I wish I knew enough about mathematics to make a funny math joke about this. But, alas, I'll have to try and work out an Olsen Twins joke or something equally insipid.
Another feature which EIOffice 2004 carries is its ability to suggest the entire word you are typing before you finish typing it.
I loathe that feature! Just let me type and keep the clutter out of the way! Jebus!

True, but you have to have local stations. Many markets do not. My local radio is ruled by the majors. We've got the corporate top 40 station, the corporate country station, the corporate classic rock station, the corporate religious station and PBS.
I don't even listen to the radio anymore. All I hear from it is the same old crap over and over again.
And this is a damned shame. I grew up in the era of the independant FM radio stations that let the DJs play what they wanted. The era when you listened to a DJ not because he was some "morning zoo" asshole, but because you enjoyed his musical tastes. To me, that's the way radio should work.
I find music through internet radio and the advice of friends.
It died when the musicians became the money-grubbing motherfuckers
Wanting to put food on the table and a roof over their heads using their talents makes them money-grubbing motherfuckers? Should they all go out and get day jobs so you can have music for free? Would that make them nice people again?
Grow the hell up and stop being such a selfish little turd.

You mean like that flat-panel I-Opener internet appliance that everyone hacked into Linux boxes a few years back?

Oh, and you didn't spell it "M$","Micro$oft", "Micro$hit", or "Windoze". Please turn in your Slashdot user ID to the doorman on your way out.

Now my dual 1.8GHz G5 feels slow and old...
And I bought a Mac to help me get away from the WinTel upgrade cycle.
And that, my names friend, is the entire point. Since they can't compete with OSS on price or quality, they are going to bury it a legal quagmire.
The one thing that people must remember about Bill Gates is that he absolutely can not stand competition. Period.

They could opt to buy in and enjoy Apple's products. It worked for me.
Yep. I even use SCUMM VM to run Day of The Tenticle and Full Throttle on my G5. I love those games.
The first kernel I ever used was 0.97. Back in 1993 or 1994.
