  2. Is that the truth? on Sony Rep Denies Need For PC, PS3 Better · · Score: 1

If that were the truth, the industry wouldn't have backlashed like it did.

The truth is that, when Sony saw what Nintendo was doing, the completely redesigned their controller, and DROPPED a feature, to put in accelerometers. Further, the company that you had demo the "new" technology for you didn't find out about the motion sensing features until a week before the biggest event in videogame history.

There is simply no way that Sony has been working on this for any extended period of time. Having to drop a feature to work it in, and then the technology not even work correctly (given the awful Warhawk demo) is a huge sign over Sony's head saying "WE ARE LYING."

What if both the PS3 and 360 markets take this whole "Wii is a secondary console" thing to heart? Lets say that 25% of all 360 owners, and 25% of all PS3 owners decide to opt for the Wii as well as their console of choice?

Thats a pretty decent strategy. I dont know which console people own, but from my own experience it has been just one. Usually someone owns only an Xbox, PS2, or Gamecube, or if they own two it is the Xbox and the PS2.

Now if Nintendo has all of its fanboys buy the Wii, AND manage to get many more 360/PS3 adopters to buy it as well...

Thing is, also being a huge Nintendo fanboy, Im somewhat biased against other consoles by nature. While I do plan on getting a 360 for Oblivion, until I saw Bioshock, Oblivion was the only game that I simply had to play for the system.

Bioshock just looks ravishing and deep, and a hugely fresh and original take on a genre that, for better or worse, started to take the familiar path down the road.

... situation is that Sony is in nearly the EXACT same position Nintendo was in when they "fell from grace".

Nintendo simply didn't have enough games to push the N64, where as the competition (mainly Sony) did. Now Sony is on the losing stick of console exclusives and with the loss of GTA4 exclusivity, I can only see more titles making the leap as developers realize the 360 cant be taken for granted.

Nintendo used a format that was not in the best interest of the market (cartridges). Blu Ray simply isnt going to be what its made out to be, and with the cheaper PS3 not able to utilize high definition content like the more expensive model, then whats the point in having Blu Ray? Its simply forcing us to pay for something that many wont get to use, or use properly.

Nintendo felt that their name alone would sell games. Sony fits this perfectly.

I wont go as far as to say "SONY IS TEH DOOMED", but it doesnt look good for them in the slightest.

The Revolution will probably be coming out at about the same time as the PS3, probably novemberish of this year. That's not a bad thing-- I think november of this year will be a time many people will feel ready to buy a new game console. It just seems to me that either coming out "late to the game" in November 2006 is going to be a problem for both Sony and Nintendo, or it will be a problem for neither of them.

You should keep in mind that a large number of gamers, and a majority of the industry, do not expect Sony to launch the PS3 in November.

You should also keep in mind that a prompt launch on Sony's part is integral when considering competition with Microsoft. It's not a matter for Nintendo because they simply don't care, but for Sony who is attempting to be THE number 1 company next generation, timeliness is an incredibly important factor.

No one is discrediting Sony, it's just a matter of importance. The situation is the same for all three companies. Microsoft's voice is already out and past these complications, Nintendo doesn't care, and Sony depends on it. Sony is the most at risk.

What about the four or five franchises that are already exclusive to the Playstation console, a couple of which have already seen early versions demoed running on PS3 hardware, and more of which we are likely to see at E3?

What exclusives are you talking about? Killzone and Warhawk? Nice games, but Killzone didn't live up to the hype the first time around, and neither have as sufficient market penetration that Halo has. Are you also including Metal Gear Solid 4? That series is multi console and has been for the past five years.
