I seriously doubt if anybody has a monitor bigger than my 42" HDTV-ready projection TV... plus, using a computer as a platform usually means you have to put up with fan noise; it should be possible to build a consumer electronics device that silent (although Sony seems to insist on putting fans in theirs).
Actually, OS/2 shipped with a solitaire game (Yukon) that would play itself, thus saving the users countless hours of time and freeing them up to perform more productive tasks!
Exactly. OMSI Pascal released a (quite good) hearts playing program source code with their compiler around 1980. Of course, if the patent predates that, it would have expired by now, wouldn't it?
Hmm... when I lived in Manhattan Beach, we used to go the the beach, smoke dope, drink beer and surf (waves, not the 'net). Whatdaya mean, there's nothing to do?
I'm curious as to what this actually is... online crack sales? Drive-by DDoSing? Are the Crips and Bloods sending out spam now? Or are they putting together Powerpoint presentations to recruit new members? Seriously, what are "gangs" using (easily tracable and most likely monitored) cybercafe computers for?
The Electric Company isn't a monopoly, per say, they're just really successful. If the Electric Company were truly a monopoly you would only be running your car, boat, and homes with energy from the Electric Company powering hardware supplied by the Electric Company. The Electric Company may be market dominant, but they're not the only choice out there. You can always install gasoline, diesel, propane or natural gas fired generators, solar panels, windmills, or whatever else to generate your electricity. You can even use electric power to power hardware not supplied by the Electric Company. Plus, no one's forcing you to use electricity!
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and acts like a duck, then it's a duck. If it's able to exert monopolistic control of a market or markets, then it's a monopoly.
It appears that in addition to all bugs being shallow with enough eyes, that all complicated legal problems are also shallow with enough eyes. How many people have helped Pamela Jones in this by locating references? It appears that open source methodology may be an advantage in legal cases as well as software development!
It is more like the clerk slips in a box of cookies unbeknownst to the customer, then has the customer arrested as they are walking out the door for shoplifting.
No, Dell and Creative Labs are ahead in price/performance (Creative has a 60GByte MP3 player for $399). Granted, the iPod is a slicker device if money is no object.
for all hardware that is developed, you can swear the vendor will release Windows-drivers that makes hardware support a non-issue. And for all hardware that is no longer being sold, you can swear because the vendor won't bother to develop drivers for it for the next release of Windows.
The only good things Disney has done lately were the Pixar movies and Fantasia 2000, which was driven mainly by Roy Disney. Now both these creative sources are gone, they are running out of out-of-copyright stories to rip off, and everybody thinks Eisner is an ass. The only think they can do now is churn out cheap marketing-driven shlock; the age of considering Disney as "art" is over. (Incidentally, I've always maintained that Disney and Microsoft had simular business models: "steal other peoples ideas, then jealously guard them as your own.")
Personally, I'm torn between the cushy redundancy offered by decentralization, and the cushy security of having most of the servers in a stable, well-protected country. You mean a country like Canada, that doesn't go around pissing off the rest of the world? Diversity is a survival factor, especially in adverse conditions. If we put all the servers in one place, we might as well run the same exact Windows OS on all of them too...
Can't you do all the same things via a man-in-the-middle attack, in which case there is NO way for the web site developer to guard against it?
Uh, "Dance Dance Revolution", one of the most popular games on the PS2, is actually a PS1 game.

What will they come up with next? Uh... airplanes?
Actually, I beleive the "anti-gravity lifters" lift by ionizing air; they are really just fans with no moving parts.

And operating systems are not natural monopolies?

Groucho Marx's "I wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member" seems to apply here...

I have a simular situation. "Honey, are you surfing slashdot again?" "Uh, no... I'm just downloading porn!"
Googling for "El" returns "Results 1 - 10 of about 251,000,000. Search took 0.33 seconds." Damn... Wonder why so many of the results are in Spanish?
+blonde +thirtysomething +"blue eyes" +model
yields 53 hits. +"into geeky guys" only returns 1 hit -- damn! I'd snatch that girl up in a hurry!
Little bit harder to come up with credit cards in not in your real name... but yes, anybody who gives their real name when they date is a fool!

My wife has been calling me a "virtual dummy" for years! Think I should apply for this job?
Has anybody ported Linux to any of these boxes? the GamePark 32 looks like a good prospect...
