  1. I agree with TheRealMindChild on Home Router For High-Speed Connection? · · Score: 4, Informative

Like another user stated use pfsense. We had this problem at work. We are a library and just got 100/100 fiber service. Couldnt afford to buy some $10,000 router and our $1000 router couldnt handle the speeds. Downloaded pfsense and put it on an old server and get full 100/100 speed. Its open source , has snort and everything. ITs free to use and they have a pay for support option as well.

The problem is companies liek grumman the government let slip away. Also we didnt lose the people from the apollo mission. Every tax season i work with somebody who was on the team at grumman who created the lunar lander. The problem is that nasa rather go with the company who pays them off the most (namely lockhead amrtin) instead of the companies that have the better designs. Watch the special on the lunar lander to see what I am talking about.

  5. Quality of teachers. on Parents Baffled By Science Questions · · Score: 1

The problem today is the quality of teachers. When I was in High school the teachers made science fun . Physics teacher would do things like explode a pickle via electricity to show resistors, we would have music playing during tests , and things like that . My earth science teacher got us learning by doing things like jeopardy to learn for the regents. Now teachers just read from a book and expect you to learn everything. IF the teachers were better more people would love science. When i have kids (hopefully about a year or two) i will make sure that they learn science even if its from me (i am a science nut, it helps that i live a half hour away from brookhaven national labs) .

I would think microsoft makes a ton by selling there OS to Companies like dell to put on their machines. Also Microsoft is going towards a hugely component based os. ALl they have to do is stop making say the media player and leave that to other companies. Microsoft has better options that will make windows better and make them money without having to go Open source or free. Microsoft is going towards. Making a very base OS with nothing but the ability to run programs and having to pay seperately for the parts that you want. THis will get the EU off their backs and the possibility to make more money.

I thought people on slashdot would be more tech savy and know that you cant do any sort of performance testing on a beta especially when microsoft themselves stated they havent done any performance fixing on the beta.

I think more colleges should do this so that more graduates know how business works.

I also think this is due to A lot of people in the IT field bbecause it pays alot. I feel most people dont like doing it jobs. I love my it job and I am always trying to improve the network without huge expenditures and without overburdening the people who use the systems.
