Yes, ubuntu never worked with the radeon 9600 in my powermac. I installed gentoo and it worked automagically! Something is fishy with ubuntu and ATI/X11 for PPC.

Until Intel can make a chip for the same price/performance as AMD, they are long behind.

Wow, you have bought into all of the propaganda. Actually, NO tall steel skyscraper has ever fallen do to fire, or from a plane crashing into it. Check your facts, man. WTC 7 feel down to a neat little pile, around 5pm that day. If you look at images, WTC 7 is surrounded on all four sides by skyscapers. Falling debris somehow had to go around the other buildings, and made WTC 7 fall down into a neat little pile, leaving the other buildings untouched. Right.....

  12. Re:"The most interesting new product"? on Apple Announces Wonderful Toys · · Score: 1

Seems to me the Mini is an underpowered iMac

I agree, it's pretty close when you add everything up, plus the iMac comes standard with a 160GB desktop hard drive, and an actual video card.
Mac mini with DVDRW drive + any 17" LCD = ~$950. And you're getting a slow ass 80GB laptop hard drive.

I guess it comes down to the size and 'coolness' factor.

  16. Re:you should quit spreading FUD on Linux beats Windows to Intel iMac · · Score: 0

BS. I can go to HP and get the same hardware as an Intel iMac for less without even trying hard.

The parts cost of the intel iMac comes to about $880. Not much of a markup considering these things are not included in the price: R&D, advertising, labor/assembly, included software, and nice OS X.

Edu price is only about $300 more than that for the whole thing, which I believe is worth the cost of assembly, software, shipping, R&D, etc.

    Enjoy your HP.

  19. complaining about free things on GIMP Not Enough for Linux Users? · · Score: 0

If something is free, people complain. I'm sure if GIMP had full time paid programmers, it would indeed surpass Photoshop. Hard to compare free/unfunded vs. the corporate world. Instead of complaining, I'm sure the GIMP team would take a financial contribution or your own programming skills to make it better.

This is what they want you to think.
Rebates are a scam. It is all a ploy to make you think you are getting a good deal, and to come in and buy. Just like the supermarket saver cards, as the other posters have mentioned. You think 'gosh, I saved $xxxx by using my SIP card!' Don't be a sucker.
