should you really trust people to have options though. without the monopoly microsoft has with the media player, every jackass that buys a new emachines is going to have to go out and download a media player shortly after opening the box. with that need you're just going to have a large amount of inexperienced computer users downloading the first hits for "free media player" on google, and the end result is going to be millions more computers infected with spyware because they downloaded jimbo's media player (the one that had the most exclamation points in it's ad and came bundled with a free dancing monkey). it's become blatantly obvious that when given options for software people will use the most bloated shitware in existence, and so the majority of slashdot's readers will end up spending 20 hours a week cleaning spyware off of dumb relatives' computers. do yourselves a favor and back microsoft on this one, if it means fewer advances in technology because no one will develop a new media player because there isn't enough dough involved, so be it, take one for the team. in fact, if vista came bundled with p2p software, media player, virus protection, free dancing monkey and spyware removal the world would be a better place.

if anything it's going to be techtv's or g4 (whatever the fuck it is now) having lame ass FPS tournaments. it's highly unlikely that the point is going to be to just give viewers a spectator view of the entire game, they'll focus on each player, give some lame ass interview where johnny-too-many-twinkies tells you how gaming has been a suitable replacement for actual human contact, and that he doesn't regret the fact that he's 27 and still hasn't felt anyone up because he can just buy a real doll after he kicks everyone's ass and takes home the prizemoney. then they'll show the whole 30 seconds it takes for him to die at the hands of some 9 year old korean kid followed up by post game statistics given by some girl that is way too hot to actually know anything about the games she's commenting on. but it doesn't matter because you aren't really listening, you're just watching her tits bounce as she nods way too enthusiastically while prentending to care. tune in next week for our exclusive coverage of the EA superbowl, where competitors slap each other on the ass not because it's the only place they'll feel it, but because they're afraid it might get stuck in a fat roll if they went elsewhere.

happened to me, i got in-school-suspension in high school for excessive use of profanity (i was talking to some kid about the amount of KY jelly i had to use when doinkin' his grandma and some uptight parent heard it, got offended, and narced me) i didn't feel the need to tell my parents about it because i thought it was ridiculous and figured they would as well. i served my time and figured i was in the clear. next day my dad comes home from work and goes about his business, checks the mail, etc. and i hear "bobby get your motherfucking ass down here right now" "what the fuck is this god damned shit getting fucking suspended ..." but then he couldn't hold it back and started laughing, main thing he was pissed about was me not telling him about getting suspended, and told me to watch my mouth at school. dad knows best

as far as the swearing in video games, it's going to happen. its good that i dont use a headset when playing, i'd hate for some kid to hear the random combinations i come up with after getting sniped by some jackass two seconds after spawning. and i might feel bad for calling an 11 year old a god damned fuckass-cunt-cock-sucker. no, it doesn't make that much sense, but it helps keep the controller from flying from my hands and ending up in pieces.

XBMC has that covered, and then some. if you want to browse the internet, just install xbox-linux and use firefox

one of nintendo's big pitches has been the ability to play all those old games without having to blow on the cartridges, jiggle the game, and hold the reset button down, you can easily find ports of all your favorite emulators for the xbox, so that's covered.

and all that's going to cost you is 150 for the old box, 20-30 for a modchip.
