Completely agree. We use our PS3 the same way, a little gaming, but primarily as media center w/ Play On and Netflix. I just bought an LG blu ray player to put in our bedroom, solely for the streaming services. We own 1 blu ray disk and won't buy any others.
The author of the proposal, Philip Gerrie, is a bee keeper and is (was) even president of the local association.
Evidently, his abhorrence of "treating [pets] as commodities and expendable" doesn't extend to stealing bees' honey and selling it for his profit, nor to manipulating the bees social structure and ecology, as is required of any successful bee keeper.
I think that's about right and if I had mod points I'd give you some. I've been an Opera devotee for 12-13 years. Opera has always been pretty good at memory management, IMO, but nowadays, it uses as much as the next browser. Right now, 6 tabs open for the last 2 hrs and I'm sitting at about 512 megs used. Of course, it doesn't seem to be as big a deal when systems are built with 6-8 gigs minimum as the standard. Even so, I'm still relentlessly concerned about every spare resource my rig uses.
When people talk about WoW's bad community nowadays, they are more than likely referencing the random groups from the dungeon finder and not meaning people on the forums at all. The PUG scene is horrid.
The circumstances that contributed to the failings at Fukushima are not similar to the situation surrounding nuclear plants in Switzerland or Germany. This is nonsense.
They want to improve their use of renewables, awesome. They should keep the nuke plants while boosting efforts on wind, solar, and hydro. Ramping up reliance on fossil-fueled energy while waiting for those other technologies to get to where we need them to be is foolish.
Having facilitated the mass piracy of billions of songs
So, the RIAA settled for $105 million after determining that Limewire helped people pirate "billions" of songs. Shouldn't that, then, set the value of "a" song that is shared? A conservative estimate of 2 billion songs for $105 mill is, what, about a nickel a song? Should use that value when determining damages against Jammie Thomas and anyone else.
JM convoluted O, of course, but I'm not the one settling for relative peanuts.
Anyone who needs to pull boatloads of data needs to sit the hell down
Sure, in May 2011. The idea is that, moving forward, let's not have to sit down. Let's be able to pull, process and use that boatloads of data on the go.
While the rebels are happy with the resolution, according to CNN,
The U.S. military does not view a no-fly zone as sufficient to stopping Gadhafi.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday that establishing such a zone "would not be sufficient" to stop the gains made by Gadhafi.
Schwartz told the committee that establishing a no-fly zone would take "upwards of a week."
I hope this helps the rebels, but they have a lot to overcome, yet.
I read in the comments for every story about WikiLeaks here on/. that the evil American gov't was obviously behind these attacks. Someone really needs to recheck this submission.
Right on. A lot of/.'ers act like seeing a naked boob or crank is the same as, oh, I don't know, seeing a dude screw a dog. It's ok if my young child (3.5 yrs) gets a glimpse of the former, but I'd rather she didn't have knowledge of the latter. Why this viewpoint is anathema here, I don't know.
The parks are *HUGE*. Kruger NP alone is about 19k sq km. The issue isn't getting a few more boots on the ground, it's hiring a lot more people, putting them in dangerous situations, and feeding and caring for them vs using 1 drone that can be operated remotely and which can cover much more area more efficiently. This is a very good idea to combat a desperate problem. The face that it helps an SA national company grow is a plus.
They are entirely about separating you from your money using sophisticated psychological tricks.
The only difference between social games and any other form of entertainment is sometimes the tricks aren't all that sophisticated. Entertainment is all about separating the consumer from his money. I don't think the MPAA is a "better" content provider than Zynga simply because they use movie posters and TV spots.
'People are so tricked into that that they'll actually spend real money on something that does absolutely nothing, nothing at all.'
The same could be said of so much of what we do, particularly entertainment-related spending. Whether or not something is "worthwhile" is a very personal decision. People spend millions on non-social gaming and what do they get from it? The entertainment experience, same as with social games, same as with gambling, same as with watching sports or movies or observing art. You don't end up with anything tangible, but the experience is worth every penny to you. Some endeavors are more accepted as worthwhile by society or have generally agreed upon benefits, but the perception of value still varies from person to person. JMO.
I disagree. I think the key to affecting change is to demonstrate the utter stupidity and futility of current regs and prohibitions to people of import, such as Ms. Neville-Jones. They need a picture painted for them in order to understand, so paint that mother.
I used to be in that same boat, but I've come around a bit. I follow mainly sports writers and feeds about my sports teams. Its a good way to keep up on a lot of sports news of interest to me. I don't think I'd use it for serious stuff. You might find twitter feeds from tech writers interesting, if you're into that.
I liked this article from a few days ago about using AIDS to kill cancer. http://nyti.ms/ouwqci Seemed poetic or something.

Sony has really pissed me off with all their bullshit. So much that, *I* won't be investing heavily in the PS4, either. Like not at all.
I saw a show one time in Tijuana where they used a donkey to lay some pipe!
Hey-o!

Obviously, this won't be settled until it reaches the Supreme Court, but it's a vital 1st step. Go Freedom!
Um, not gonna work. Like most power companies, FP & L has no shame.

I really can't decide whether to mod this funny, insightful or terrifyingly possible.
Not that it matters now...

People don't play these games because they are fun or challenging
People find getting the pellet fun and entertaining. You don't, I don't, others do. That's why it's a personal judgment.

The commercials say WP7 phones don't make you want to use them extensively. It's true, I skipped buying one!

Speaking as someone who lives in Florida, you can feel free to use whatever tag you have similar to "scam" in lieu of a "Florida" tag.
