    Since this is BEHIND the LCD, the light passes through it first. It will degrade evenly, and not be affected by the image displayed on the LCD.

    The traveling salesman problem is based on a table of distances between the city pairs. It doesn't matter to the problem HOW those distances are calculated, or even if they include other variables. So this can be trivially reduced to the classic version of the problem.

    The 20 years is not hard-and-fast. For one thing, it used to be 17 years from issue, and I believe in 1990 they used the old calculation method. Now it is 20 years from filing. The 20 years is very often extended using a complex equation that comes out different if you look at it funny. So get a patent attorney to confirm that it's expired, and that there are no other patents that you might be infringing (where there is one...).

    A regular laptop won't start up at -40 after a North Dakota night. The toughbook says "Please wait, warming up" on the BIOS screen while it pre-warms the hard drive. It also works just fine when it's baking in the sun at 150, whereas the old Dell I had would crash at those temperatures.

    Let's see. This is a powered device, with an LED, a special mask, and a lens, and presumably a battery that will go dead. Sure, it'll replace a barcode that's printed along with the rest of the packaging for no cost other than slightly reducing the area available on the package for advertising.
