Have you seen the US borders and illegal population at this point? Have you seen the amount of money the US sends out of the country in aid and support? If the US was truely nationalistic, then there would be a lot less trouble both in the country and the rest of the world. Granted, there would be less aid monies and support that would have to be taken up be the rest of the world, but maybe some inward focus would solve both the US troubles and keep the US out of trouble with the Middle East and other locations it seems to not be wanted.

One thing that came to mind was maybe putting together some presents for the girl's future birthday and christmas that are picked out by you and your wife, sort of to keep her memory alive. That being said, voice recordings, images, and video will keep her image and sound, but the crucial thing as I see it, is to keep her personality and wisdom. It's more the content than the delivery. Future proofing for 20 years really isn't as dire (imho) as most people make out. You should be fine with current formats and only replicating copies of the formats down the line. Basically, follow the typical backup storage philosophy of multiple onsite and offsite storage and you should be fine as far as technology goes.

You will note that there has been no detonation of nuclear weapons in war in the 65 years since.

I don't know that I would attribute the lack of use of the nuclear arsenal to the horror of it's use in WWII as much as to the mutually assured destruction that would have resulted from the use of them in subsequent wars/actions. As we move on to a more widespread availability of nuclear weapons (both of conventional and the 'dirty bomb' style), the nationless states gain an advantage in that they have no homeland to retaliate against and thus nullifying MAD's ability to ensure the world's safety.
