Sounds like a bit of ego to me. This "we're Google and we can do things our way" mentality is fine within the company, but outwardly calling something beta has certain connotation to us average computer users. Sure, we joke about it, but it's just plain stupid to be honest. GMail isn't in beta, it's used daily by over a million people.

Maybe the behavior was off school grounds, but most businesses have the right to fire you for stuff that happens off work grounds. How is this really that much different? To make matters worse, it involved the school itself and one of its administrators. Obviously, the principle didn't want to prosecute the kid for libel, probably because it was simply a pain in the ass. Personally, I think the kid got off easy - seems like a pretty open and shut case of libel.
Speaking of IANAL, since when did Slashdot publish essays on law from someone who explicitly states he's not a lawyer (although he's taken people to court under very different circumstances from the article)? What makes them qualified to get a whole Slashdot article to themselves?
Right on. One needs to only think about the framers original intentions when they drafted that document, and then it'll become obvious. Free speech was not meant to be an avenue for making wild claims about people to damage their reputation. It was meant to be an avenue to right the wrongs of society and government. Nothing about this screams free speech to me. In fact, claims like this can seriously damage a person's reputation. The social stigma of such a claim is almost enough to get this guy canned.
WRONG. Congress is ALLOWING him to break and ignore the laws of his own country. The GP is right. None of this would've happened if Congress didn't give him that type of power he has. Blame Congress for where we are now.

The thing that frustrates me about all this is that roads are typically designed to take turns and hills at and most times well above the posted speed, yet people still feel the need to break. If you're a good driver, you shouldn't need to really use your breaks all that much on a highway.
I mean seriously? who cares if youtube has or doesn't has these videos. Scientology has a huge PR problem as it is, and calling attention to it is only pointing it out to all the wackos that are looking for an outlet to be even crazier. Just let them make their own grave.

Freedoms? what freedoms? Disregarding the fact that you no written or expressed right to privacy. you are in a public place and should expect none. To expect privacy anywere outside your home is just stupid.
Although I am admittedly ignorant over the whole concept, it didn't really seem to help real blue collared workers from having their jobs outsourced. How will it help us?
