I think we can blame Moron to Moron interactions. I mean really- what is worse? The 'meme' itself or the person you actually took the time to fill it out and post it?
"You can pay to take the risk." Nothing like Insurance for your Open Source- and the litigation after the software does not work and the company you "paid to take the risk" turns around and says "well we don't cover THAT kind of software failure- you must have installed something in the computer incorrectly to cause it to error."
(Now if we are going to have the 'use Linux over Windows' argument- then I probably will lean to your view, but I'm assuming that the windows OS will still be used)
Last- really- "living under a rock"? Do you have to supplement your (lack of)points with passive aggressive jabs? Would think that Slashdot readers would actually have a tad more class.
And yes, that rock I've lived in since 1995 is called Executive Security and Risk Assessment. Its a nasty rock- almost like a boulder.
Frankly, open source might not be the right choice. While I am a BIG proponent of open source- the problem is there is no accountability by anyone (use at your own risk) and you have to hope that developers are still interested in the software you choose to use. In 3 years something bigger and better may come along and you are stuck trying to move everything over. As much as I hate Microsoft and their licensing, it is safe to say that they are going no where for a while. After all there is nothing more frustrating than initiating a overhaul of a system only to find out that the Open source software you want to use is acting funny on half the machines- and there is no vendor you can call except evilmonkeycoder@someeuroemail.edu and hope they get back in time.
I'm a little surprised that the US Govt. does not have a communication service just for its own executive office. One would think they could find a way to utilize thechnology's that RIM has introduced, to a more secure network. Maybe a PGP encrypted phone? I seem to recall there being some sort of encryption software for windows mobile OS, surely such a piece of software could be put in place, in combination with a govt. run communications network to ensure that our president can 1. keep his blackberry and 2. allow for the office of the presidency to opperate in the 21st century. THe only problem that could arise in this is the legal issues of archiving all emails sent to/by the president- as we may recall a few years back the large uproar of RNC email addresses being used to conduct federal matters. But I'm sure congress can work out that detail.
forget tooth regeneration, I want my hair back. I can deal with dental implants- hell, i'll use the teeth of dead people if I have to... Just get rid of my bald spot!
Ok, the tooth regeneration thing is kinda cool, I will admit.
You hit hte nail on the head. Trying to find a real person at google is almost like looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have friends who work there- so at least I have some kind of confirmation that real people do exist- but I wonder if they have phones at their desk.
Google really does create good products, I will give them that. But I find that the followthrough for some of their products are a tottal crapshoot. But that what you get for free software. As for their mining the minds of the user for new products- business wise its a brilliant idea. Not paying users who submit ideas that eventually get used and make millions for Google, I think is crap. But should be no surprise- especially if anyone else paid close attention to what happeend to Doubleclick after it was acquired by Google(Product support was all fired and replaced by no one, developers had to re-interview for the job they had for 10 years, etc. etc. etc.)
So does that mean the store will close down right in the middle of you trying to make a serious purchase decision?

Did the US outsource their Legal prosecution to the RIAA lawyers? jeez.
Now if we can find the who carries the gene for being a moron. I suspect its more than 1 in a 100.
They also are shutting down the Double click offices in Denver- that puts another 200 people out to pasture.
"Wankers."
So does that mean we are going to buy MORE fake routers from china with hardwired security issues?
Work was so last year.

But I thought windows 7 was going to solve all the windows problems?! oh fie!
I would have thought C. I mean, without the C you are no pirate at all...

ouch- marked as flamebait by a microsoft sympathizer. ZING!
I think the exact cause can be summed up as this: It's Microsoft.
And what silly git came up with this idea in the first place?
