    That's pretty easy: if they arrest someone for possibly be a terrorist and he gives a key, then either he is not a terrorist or it is a false key. On the other hand, if a real terrorist is arrested with encripted data, he could be amused by the threat of adding a couple of years to its very highly probable life or death sentence.

    On short term humanity safety, I mostly agree with you. When we could get some men for long period on mars or the moon, survival on earth whatever the conditions will be easy.

    There is still the risk ov a very very big asteroid/comet that could totally destroy earth surface, but even in that case, preventively blasting or rerouting it will be both easier and more efficient than an exodus.

    But human nature is not only about safety, curiosity and expansion are in our genes and I beleive some people will someday live anywhere in the solar system and then beyond.

    Yes, it won't be a technical problem. But whenever someone makes big money out of the problem, technical solutions tend to not work.

    Moreover, it won't be that simple for ISP to identify the exact nature of the bot and provide the full removal instructions (format is not an acceptable option) with 100% accuracy.

    Some teenagers in my family buy a lot of music for their phones (>10/month), not for listenning but as ringtones and DRM really makes sense for the seller since:
    *They are not directly paying it (thank you daddy...) so they don't care about price to a certain extend.
    *They don't want to keep them very long (last semester dance hit is lame!)
    *They all want the same stuff at the same moment and would copy it if it was easy to do so.

    Media files on phones aren't supposed to last longer than a couple of monthes.
    The target audience is teenagers who absolutely do not want to be caught with anything that is no longer in top 10 charts.

    With a limit to the number of proposed patents per entity and year (or an exponential fee), it would add some workload to biggest trolls that would have to create bunch of strawman companies without harming the small inventors.

    "If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide" sentence is strictly equivalent to "if you have something to hide, you've done something wrong", so if a governement want to use the first one against the population, it can't logically deny the second one about itself.

    GSM wavelength is not ionizing so it can't be dangerous by itself. But some think the bursts used by GSM protocol create a low frequency envelope that may affect living tissues (that would behave like an AM receiver). There is also the low but measured local thermal effect. Those effects are hard to evaluate but hundred of million people using cellular tend to show they are probably not that dangerous.

    On the other hand, the high occurence in this very building compared to the lack of such situation near the large majority of other antennas make me agree with the idea that there is another cause to this particular situation.

    They want to force a visible indication of adult content on web pages and pas tons of laws "to protect the children" but refuse an easy way responsible adult content providers (there must exist a few ones) could be filtered. I say let's play as dumb as the average congressman and put them to jail for willingly helping children get access to adult content.

    I do beleive the distinction between terrorism, invasion and "preventive attack because of the WMD and we bring the democracy, look we're the good guys, you're supposed to love us" is mostly a matter of point of view and budget.

    Hydrogen in zepplins was dangerous, but it was otherwise superior to any other solution. Moreover, since it was not intended to be burned, production cost and efficiency were probably not big issues.

    On the other hand, producing, transporting and storing enough of this dangerous gas to power a decent percentage of the cars of a nation won't be simple and I really don't think H2 is the better solution.

    On an unrelated point, in France, the firemen forced the car manufacturer to put a distinctive sticker on GPL-powered cars because they consider them too dangerous in case of fire, imagine with H2...

    If I were (more) computer illiterate, the choice will be even more simple:
    *Get the box from the store. Easy, and I'm already going there at least once a week for food and other stuff.

    *Discover I can download from the net, ask someone to install a torrent client on my PC, fight my fear of pirates and give my credit card number over the internet, wait hours for the downlaod to complete because there will be no-one to seed except WB itself, waste a blank DVD trying to brun it. Another one? No f***ing way!
