But wouldn't something like the quantum immortality effect come into play here? In other words, to steal the Matterhorn analogy, we are guaranteed to have fallen into the dimple at the top instead of falling down the sides because we live in this universe and all the other possible universes never formed because they did fall down the sides.
Granted, occams razor and all that, but it is at least interesting to think about.
I can give you a concrete example of how you're wrong. I'll point you to the passengers of flight 93 on Septembet 11th, 2001.
Once they found they weren;t on the standard "free trip to Cuba" that hijackings were though to be before that day, they seemed to be quite willing to stand up for themselves, even if it meant their lives.
This comment is only "insightful" in the sense that it gives insight into the kind of shameful, pants-wetting fear that has permeated the "home of the brave".
Ironically, I was a beta tester for Auto Assault. I even got a blurb in their marketing materials. Unfortunately, that was before I ever played it. 3rd person perspective, nothing meaningful when the player was out of the car (a ped should have the option of taking on a car, no matter how suicidal), no positional damage and an overall game mechaninc that was less Car Wars and more WoW on roller skates really runined that game.
Planetside probably came closer than anything I've experienced. A couple of harassers and marauders tearing down the road, trading MG fire and lobbing grenades at each other was a blast.
A MMOFPS version of Car Wars. The game I've been waiting for since I bought my pocket box version of Car Wars back in '82. I understand they've been waiting till it can be done right but I really want to see this before my time is up.
Also, an updated version of Ogre for PCs or even tablets.
Seems to me this would be a great benefit to veterinarians. The hardest part of treating a fracture in an animal is getting the patient to stay still while they recuperate. Would be a lot easier to do that for a couple of days vs. several weeks. Racehorses might be able to live with injuries that result in euthanasia now.
They can have my PRS-500 when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
I just got it back from Sony after the firmware upgrade and I found it hard to get by without while it was gone. No DRM, no restrictions. It's mine and I can use it as I see fit. Those are the highest recommendations I can think of these days.
I've told people for years that if the same level of licensing and regulation was applied to automobiles that is applied to aviation, accidents would be uncommon enough to be newsworthy when they happened.
Of course it would accomplish this by keeping 90% of current drivers and 90% of current vehicles off the road entirely.
Twitter is a perfect digital representation of what an empty head sounds like when it rattles.
I'll take this opportunity to point out that this post would make a good tweet.

No. Step away from the console.
Then John Wilkes Booth killed him and it's been downhill ever since.
Yes, but it only works for perfecly spherical policemen in a vacuum.
A smaller chance of being "liberated".
and just named it "Going out of Business".
I keep a pack of unpunched cards, just in case. I also have a very old Radio Shack desktop punchcard reader.
Been waiting for an excuse to break it out and save the day for the last 30 years. Any day now...

Robotech Defense Force
Sounds like a giant version of Artemis http://www.artemis.eochu.com/ with all the fun parts taken out.
If you're married to "Hans Resilient", you'll want to start running now.
Christoforo's Law: "When you find yourself being a hole, stop talking!".
It would be funny, it it wasn't so stupid.
It's still pretty funny...

Engineers? I'm pretty sure the Rolling Stones came up with that one.
