I would say this depends more on your definition of safe than it does on whether the battery is from Sony. Even if your battery is from Sony the odds of it hurting you seem to be around the odds of being struck by lighting (1:500,000) and much less than the odds of being murdered (1:18,000).
ATI released register specifications for R100 and R200 ages ago and there are open source drivers for these older cards. At Siggraph last week ATI announce CTM (close to the metal API for GPGPU uses). CTM opens up the register specification for pixel shaders on ATI's newest cards (x1900). This should go a long way towards having open source drivers for ATI's newest graphics cards.
I wonder if the big companies that are leaving happen to be Microsoft and Sony. I could see them wanting to pull out after what happened with Nintendo at the last E3.
Treating the Symptom

Growing Insulin
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
Worldwide demand for insulin is forecast to soar to 16,000 kg by 2010, from an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 kg last year, because more people are developing the disease and are being diagnosed earlier in their lives
The increase in diabetes has been linked to obesity. It frustrates me that we put so much research and money into treating the symptoms and not the source. I admit it seems like a hard sell to convince people to become healthier, but I believe if there was a large ad campaign, discounts for healthy food, subsidized health clubs, and other incentives to live healthily more people would live healthier lives. It is almost always cheaper to spend money on prevention rather than a cure.
It seems that cost-per-action fraud could be a bigger issue than the existing fraud unless google is very careful. I can see people creating sites that have an action of buying some product, but make their money off of advertisements. They only pay google if someone buys there product; however, these sights would also make money by plastering ads all over their site. This matters to me because these sites would have little incentive in making a good site to sell the product I searched for.
So your point is what? Is it that all consoles should be identical so they can all play all the games? What would be the point of having three manufactures if they all made the same console? I prefer choice even if that means I can't play every game on every console.
I hope congress doesn't read Slashdot or the next thing you know they will be proposing a new amendment to the constitution to fix this. It would fit in perfectly after the amendments to limit gay marriage and flag burning.
To think that I've had the 5 second rule backwards all these years... Note to self: let food sit on the floor for more than 5 seconds before picking it up.
Check out this auction. I don't know about you, but I'm calling the police as soon as I'm finished typing. Oh wait I almost forgot that would turn me into an irrational knee jerking reactionary.
I hate it when the publishers push the developers to release a game before it's finished. With most games developers would only need a few more months to polish a game, but this might be a special case so I guess it could drag on a little longer... and longer... and longer...
I think we should all get bars of copper and zinc medically inserted into our stomachs. I guess we might need a friend or two if we wanted to run those latest high powered processors.
Thanks for writing this since it saved me some writing. You get the same type of awful performance if you try to access local GPU memory with the CPU on an x86 system(PC drivers go to great lengths to not let the developer do this). That said the Xbox360 with its unified memory has the advantage of not having this problem. The only real world advantage this gives Xbox360 is that it can decide how much memory to give the GPU and how much to give the CPU. Where as with the PS3 you are basically stuck with a static 256MB split for each. I think this is a noteworthy advantage for the Xbox360, but not a huge showstopper for PS3 like this article hinted.
The fact that you didn't mention raw, dng, or tiff tells me that you don't know enough for your opinion to matter much to me. Without the formats I just mentioned many of your pretty jpg would never have existed. I don't know enough about this new Microsoft format to say whether it is good or not, but I do know that there is a lot of room for improvement to jpg like support for HDR and an alpha channel.
My gut says it doesn't trust Microsoft to properly handle an open image format, but part of me also knows it might take a huge company like Microsoft to move everyone out of the jpg era.
Sweetness. Does the xbox 360 have the A and B buttons? I need my Up Up Down Down Right Left Right Left B A Select Start code! My god, why do I still remmeber that?
To quote the MS person: "There is no slip in schedule, just a change in delivery for the benefit of consumers and retailers." Now how someone can say that with a straight face is beyond me.
This card looks very boring. My quad fan card with state of the art stealth cooling fins and racing stripes looks way better. If they added some gold and diamond dust to the water to increases this cards bling I would consider buying it.

To make informed comments I believe in reading the whole article before posting. Umm, I had to make an exception this time.

Or it means that the heliopause is collapsing at an alarming rate. In other words, the sky is falling! End of the solar system! Run for your lives!

I bet Microsoft and Intel's lawyers were worried about their companies being charged as monopolies again. So they told Dell to say this.
