    vegetarianism and veganism are, for most of the world, unusual.

    Hmmmn - I believe you meant 'USA' instead of 'World'.

    It's hard to get good figures, but I'd say 1/2 a billion Indians are vegeterian (but eat eggs, dairy)

    Billions more eat very little meat. A diet low in meat is normal for most of the world & something easy you can do if you want to be green.

    The question is, apart from Government financing, is it possible for Normal People to buy a Green Home / Car / Life?

    Move close to your work (or get a job you can telecommute to), use a bike / walk / public transport wherever possible. Insulate. Put in a water tank.

    There - not that hard & no need to go whining to the government for a hand out.

    Google Earth is an interactive map & the LHC is a particle accelerator. Frankly, I don't see wtf one has to do with the other (or how one could obsolete the other)...

    If its damage, then if you take care to dispose, how is it an issue?

    Because of their size & weight, plastic bags escape normal disposal options easily. Look around you. Most of the trash I see on the streets is plastic bags.

    You probably use thousands of plastic bags every year. Are you so confident of your disposal methods that none of them entered a waterway?

    if its bio-degrade, I dont get that either. They arent the largest things around. Is it a significant issue?

    1) Paper bags recycle more readily than plastic.
    2) You could just reuse a sturdy bag and that way, not contribute to landfill with the containers you use to take home your shopping at all.

    Uhhh? unlimited license? For $500, Apple gives you a 10-client license?

    and does a hell of a lot more than throw a few OSS solutions into the box.

    OSS solutions:

    * Scale up onto hardware Apple can only dream about (talk to Sun or IBM for more info)

    * Fit into your existing vmware infrastructure.

    * Don't impose bullshit per-client licensing restrictions.

    * Don't leave you with a coating of vendor lock-in slime.

    Sure, if you're a complete Apple shop (hah!), then OS X server is probably a good fit for you, but in the real world, its mixed clients (or at least looking in that direction).

    If your going to comment it helps if you have half a clue what your talking about.

    Nope, an exchange of money for a good seems like a legitimate purchase to me.

    So an 'unlocked' Mac OS should cost more than one bundled with a Mac computer. Simple. So pay up the extra money, or shut up.

    Nope, Apple's more like a supermarket, offering some goods very cheaply to entice customers to buy other goods. Some customers will come in & buy the discounted items only. *shrug* bad luck, update your business plan if that's not what you want.

    GP: Copyright law was always intended to prevent unauthorized distribution of protected materials, and not to dictate use of legitimately purchased materials.

    YDE: if it's about 'making a statement' rather than a money issue, I'm sure the OP would be delighted to donate the appropriate extra money to Apple.

    Are you retarded? How does it make a statement to give money to the very company that is attempting to dictate use of legitimately purchased materials?

    Perhaps you meant to suggest giving the money to the FSF/EFF instead?

    Unbelievably, the follow up to that from many slashdotters will be: "My music store will never go offline." Unbelievably, people are still buying (and defending) DRMd music.

    If this story (and the MS one before) doesn't alert you to the sad fact that you don't own any DRMd music you've bought, nothing will.

    Nokia doesn't seem to have any problem including skype on their phones, so I'm not sure wtf you'd think that.

    Palamida is a security company. They're not the FSF, who, unlike MS do not have reams of cash to promote the GPL.

    Uh-huh. Uptake of the GPLv3 (as a percentage of GPLv2 instances) is far higher than Vista (compared to Windows installs) or IPV6 vs IPV4

    The 300MB limit gives you 10MB/day, which would be fine for VoIP

    Provided the users never uses any other services which require data. Which I personally don't think is realistic.

    Considerably less than 300MB/month would be useful for many people to avoid occasional trunk call charges.

    You don't have to make every call over VOIP for it to be tremendously useful.

    Its a pity Apple places artificial restrictions on the phone & doesn't allow this sort of functionality.

    don't (in the legal sense) enter the US.

    I'm afraid the idea that you're in international territory until you've crossed passport control is a myth. Some countries decide to exclude parts of their airports from passport & border controls so those areas appear to be international territory.

    The US doesn't treat their airports like this & couldn't have a case like (for instance) Merhan Karimi Nasseri.

    I'm guessing your country has laws similar to France, but guess what? There's a big world out there & laws are not uniform.

    If you don't like the US's laws, don't go to the country - simple as that (I don't & don't).

    All nice and dandy, but please remember that the rest of us filthy foreigners who are coming for a friendly visit aren't directly guilty of anything in particular either.

    There's a good reason why international tourism in the US is plummeting when a low US dollar means it should be increasing.

    Oh well, I guess the US economy is strong enough to withstand $94 Billion in lost spending.... oh wait!

    This petition is just a gentle reminder that the carrot (utilizing OSS community development process) & stick (customers switching vendors) already exist. (from TLA):

    Vendors that provide closed-source kernel modules force their customers to give up key Linux advantages or choose new vendors. Therefore, in order to take full advantage of the cost savings and shared support benefits open source has to offer, we urge vendors to adopt a policy of supporting their customers on Linux with open-source kernel code.
