    The RIAA != law enforcement. Cops have all those rights legally. The RIAA lawyers have no more rights than you or I do. If I brought hundreds of false or frivolous lawsuits against people, I would expect those same people to come after me for compensation. Why should the RIAA be any different?

    Those Pointmaster sticks were the best. I had probably gone through about 4-5 of the regular old standard Atari joysticks before I picked one up. Pretty sure the Pointmaster is still in a box downstairs somewhere with my old Atari 800 and I'm almost positive it still works fine.

    What? Apple makes a sub-$1000 laptop? I just checked their site and their macbooks start out at $1099. Where is this mythical sub-$1000 machine you speak of?

    This is Slashdot, so here is the 'car' analogy.
    If you were having engine problems with your car, would you remove the transmission before you brought it to the shop to have it worked on? Because if something happened to your transmission while the engine was being worked on, it wouldn't be the fault of the repair shop.

    Or it means the university doesn't want to listen to people bitch about spending public money on things they don't support. Yeah, the university that is self-sufficient on private funds instead of wasting public money is certainly "corrupted". The purpose of the university is education and companies funding research privately is providing just that. Research money is soley used for, wait for it - research. The university is not "dependent" on this money for normal operation. If they don't get private research money, they don't do the research. It's not like they spend the university operating budget on research. If there is no research money, there is no research.
    I think your tinfoil hat is a little tight today...

    Because they are students and are poor. Most universities provide internet access without charging the students anything additional. And as the discussion proves, students are cheap and if something is free they will take it over something that isn't.

    I work at a university and from what I understand most of the patents/patent research is not done with public money - most research money is private. At least in my department and related departments. Actually about 90% of our department's entire funding is from private research money.

    If you are stupid enough to not realize that climbing over the 3' fence to get closer than you are supposed to to the tiger, and then taunting the tiger, while intoxicated, is a bad idea, then I hope something takes your DNA out of the gene pool. Darwinism at work here people! I mean honestly, trying to make a tiger made is NEVER a good idea. Guess they never heard the expression about not pulling on the tiger's tail.
