So they're going to ban people from buying licensed music? It's one thing to question copyright and DRM it's another to not leave people with any option but illegal downloads.
I went from a five to a troll? Some people need to read more. The jet stream is the likely source. Check maps of the Glaciers and you'll see they matched the position of the jet stream during the last ice age. The jet stream acts as a wall to the cold arctic air. Other factors keep the frost line in northern Canada but during an ice age the Jet Stream marks the limit the cold will shift. A study of glacerial sediments helped prove the process began around the time the Himalayan Mountains started to form. Maybe the theory is wrong but it's not my theory. I felt like I just got trolled because I made a pro evolution post on a Christian web site. Might help to do some reading before you troll. Another FYI the earth isn't flat and evolution isn't just an unlikely theory.
It doesn't explain the cycles but the ice ages are generally believed to be caused by a shift in the jet stream that was caused by the Himalayan Mountains. The cycle's start parallels the rise of that mountain range cutting into the jet stream and causing the shift. The trigger is still up for debate but the cold air is being caused by the jet stream shifting south.
Where have you been? Here in the good ole US of A we have hundreds perhaps thousands of laws that are blatantly unConstitutional. Virtually all the forfeiture laws related to drug possession and sale are illegal. Many parts of the Homeland Security Act were obviously unConstitutional. The Supreme Court excuses them as being for our own good but the founding fathers made no such exceptions. Rationalizing exceptions to Constitutional Law are very scary in any society. The Supreme Court should not be allowed to change the Constitution through interpretation only the States have the power to change the Constitution.
I own two Shuttle boxes and the XPC is the best computer I ever owned. They're extremely easy to assemble, actually fun to build, and I've never had a problem with one. A pair of them stacked are smaller than most single towers. I wish they could handle 2 gig memory chips but that's my biggest complaint. Both have firewire connections and frontside USB and sound. My 3200 has a frontside mini firewire plug but my XPC has a fullsize frontside firewire and both have full size backside plugs. I strongly recommend them. The only machine I'd consider for a living room multimedia machine. They even look good.
Put treadmills in the doorways of all the McDonalds. The treadmill won't shut off until you've burned up all the calories you just ate. On top of prices they can list minutes required on the menu to burn off the calories. Instead of worrying about calories people will worry if they have the time to eat a large fries.
Do your own research. Some of the information given you is bad. The life expectatncy of photovoltaics is 25 to 30 years, potentially more. The general rule for payback is seven years. If you aren't prepared to pay in advance for that long I guess don't do it but you will get 20 to 25 years of free power so you do the numbers. I'm not sure if California still has the tax credit but they were offering 50% of the cost of the photo volatiacs. Either way it's a good value.
The bigger consideration to me is whether to go silcone or flexsible. Silicone cells are more efficent in bright sun but the flexsible cell are more durable and work better in poor light. The downside with silicone cells is if one breaks the panel goes down. The cells are very fragile. Flexsible cells can actually be punctured and still work, I've seen film of them being applied with staple guns. Even so silicone may be the better bet in Southern California due to all the sunshine. In the northern states I'd definately go flexsible
Ultimately the descision maker should be how long are you going to keep the house? If you are going to move in five years I'd hesitate. If you plan to be there ten to twenty years go for it. Even if you do sell the house in twenty years the panels will have five to ten years life in them and add considerably to the value of the house. Power costs won't drop in the next twenty years. They have to go up during that time. Fusion ain't gonna happen in the next fifty years. Everyone admits that. Other than large scale coal there's no cheap replacement for current electric sources and even hydroelectric is threatened due water availibility and threats to fish stocks. Nuclear will take many years to get on line and there's still too many problems to make it a major source of power. A government study concluded localized solar was the best solution to Californias energy problems but that doesn't make money for the power companies so little was done to make it happen.

Interesting that he would mention not worrying about viruses. If history repeats itself that should be short lived. Amiga was one of the worst in the old days for viruses. Most of them at the time came from floppies because it had this habit of auto booting the disk the moment they were placed in the drive. Hopefully the new OS is better guarded but the limited user base is likely to be it's best defense.
Odd that you got an interesting. Any idea what all the FCC does? You may wish the FCC to stop regulating certain things but without an FCC communications would collapse. Communications need regulating or groups would be fighting over frequencies. Not all regulation is bad it avoids chaos.
Personally I was planning to get XM radio because Im sick of the ten minutes of music then ten minutes of commercials I get on terestrial radio. The problem being if they merge I dont care to in anyway support Howard Stern. Its a personal taste thing but he drives me nuts. I hated high school and the guy gives me serious flashbacks. If Im left with no choice between the two Ill default to CDs and save the money. Im sure some feel the same about Oprah, personally I have no opinion. I realize there are multiple channels but the one power you have is to vote with your dollars.
The real problem is if they are trying to merge it means neither is profitable, no shock there, so both will likely go under. For my two cents I say let them merge if you do one thing. Separate the pricing so you have your choice. I have no interest in supporting shock jocks, Oprah neither. I say offer package deals where you can get talk or music or a bundle of both. If you cant have competition at least have choice.
With the doomsday clock at 11:55 they decided to code name the sites Ground Zero One, Two and Three. Helpful GPS coordinates can be found at their competitors websites. Google has nice aerial shots of the Microsoft location with coordinates in Russian, Farsi and Korean. Microsoft is offering a special GPS Zune with preloaded coordinates to the Googel sites. Ain't competition grand!
Rabid is the word for it. They are giving it away and are not retroactively charging for it. You want it download it now. It was always a beta they were giving away and they are in no way going back on their word. Don't want to pay a seperate price? Upgrade. That's what I intend to do. With all the crap Microsoft has pulled over the years why are they suddenly the saints and Apple the AntiChrist? Don't like Macs? Don't use them. It's not religion it's a bloody computer. Why do I like Macs? One great example are Widgets. All I have to do is hit the center mouse button and I have current weather, calendar, current times in five different world locations, a language translator, a calculator, stock quotes, address book, dictionary, google, weights and measures converter, iTunes, and a post-it pad. I could have more but those are the ones I use most. One button. If I need to get a file from the desktop, I often have hundreds on the desktop and they are hard to find, in Windows I have to go several folders deep to find Desktop. With Mac I just have to click on the main drive and it's right there on top. It's a user friendly OS with lots of features. XP is annoying. I get sick of being prompted constantly. Vista is supposed to be much worse. I want an OS to leave me alone so I can work not warn me all the time my computer is at risk. If I'm worried about being at risk I'll use my Mac. When's the last time you heard of a Mac virus?
In an attempt to make the Zune appeal to French buyers, Gates suggested it be named Le Merde. The VPs drew lots to see who would explain to him what the word meant.
It's amazing the Apple bashing given they are the only real consistent innovators among the major computer companies. This from a long time PC user who still does 95% of his work on a PC.
If Apple doesn't release information early enough they are being secretive and harming customers that might have waited to buy if they had more information. If they release information ahead of time they are seen as foolish for revealing too much too early and there's no way they can meet expectations.
I was shocked at the statement that there are smart phones now that do more better. Name one? I've heard complaints about the interface but I find most phones a major headache to use. I haven't bothered to add more than a couple of numbers into the autodialer in mine because it's such a hassle. Name one that plays wide screen movies? Name one with a full web browser? Name one with a full desktop OS? Name a current one with a screen that size? There are dozens of other features I've never seen in a cell phone.
Look if you don't want one fine but knocking them sounds like sour grapes. People before Vista came out were claiming the Mac OSX was just a rip off of Vista. Bizzare given how long OSX had been on the market especially considering Vista does less than Tiger and Leopard when comes out soon and does drastically more.
Personally I'm a heretic and will use whatever works best. I just find it odd all the Apple bashing since they seem to be the driving force in a lot of the new technology. Most of Vista is under the hood where as most of Tiger/Leopard's features are user oriented. After waiting six years Vista seems to be a major letdown. The biggest thing I hear about is that some features are really slow. My sole interest in it is Direct X10, otherwise I'd avoid it. I find XP a hassle and the very things I find a hassle about XP are supposed to be drastically worse. I really hate getting prompted all the time and from what I hear it's a constant thing in Vista. People have for years been speculating and complaining about the lack of an Apple phone. The day it's anounced they start complaining about the phone itself inspite of it being a major innovation in phone, media and computer intergration. Given it has a full OS once the hardware catches up they can seamlessly turn it into a portable computer. I really question whether the detractors have done their homework or is it more that Apple is about to take the technical high ground and people are starting the king bashing early? Will they take over the cell phone market? No. They admit that was never the plan. What they have done is in a first generation smart phone set a very high mark for the other companies to hit. Give it two more generations and I think people will be stunned with what it can do.
The grapes may be sour but have the decency to taste them first, or at least wait until they are picked, to declare their shortcomings.
Ultimately all the new technologies are putting an end to privacy. England has largely drunk the Kool Aide and put cameras on every street corner but the rest of the first world is following their example. At anytime you can be photographed or filmed without your knowledge. Even my PDA has a decent built in camera. Newer cars have black boxes and many have tracking devices. Emails are routinely monitored whether at work or by the government. When I was growing up in the 60s such a loss of privacy would have been thought to be Communist or at best facist. It really is the frog in boiling water senario. In fifty years it'll be considered a normal part of life to be under the microscope at work or in any public place. There's even talk of monitoring people in their own homes. Amazing what is being done for our own good. It is creepy to imagine that anytime you or your children may be photographed. Cameras were always pretty obvious so you had some warning. Cell phones are such a part of life no one thinks twice about them. They've already hit 2 megapixels. I have to believe they'll eventually have 5 or 6 megapixel camera phones. Ironically it's just as much the memory holding them back as the CCD chips.
It's an upgrade like their home theater kit. The home theater kit comes with floor gunk, stale popcorn airfreshner and a fake head to put infront of you to give that special visual experience. It also comes with a CD of teen age girls talking and babies crying in case you don't have your own on hand.
As soon as HP hears about this, we'll have $15,000 Housejet cartridges.
Not to mention it'll take five cartridges to fill the Housejet. Also for some bizzare reason the cheapest material cartridge, the wall cartridge, will cost more than either the window or electrical cartridge.
Shocked they haven't forced a blackout of critical areas. I'd almost call this more of a failure of the US government not Google. They can't be expected to know where critical areas are.
I'm amazed at all the people saying it's nothing new and nothing special. Have you actually looked at the specs and watched the keynote? Or maybe you formed the opinion based on it being an Apple? I've had zero interest in smart phones but I want an iPhone. I haven't even bought an iPod but I want an iPhone. Name one other smart phone that plays video? How about one that allows you to display a full webpage? Personally I can't stand the micro keyboards so I don't get the whole Blackberry craze. How about a smart phone running a desktop OS? I think the first generation phones are just scratching the surface of what the iPhones will be doing in a year or two. I thought the iPods were overpriced for what they are but I don't see that with the iPhone. People are spoiled. Most companies give away phones or sell them at a loss. It's come to be expected so in some ways it's holding back innovation in the market because there's not much financial incentive. You only make money off the service not the phones themselves so they are seen as a promotional item not the end product.
So they're going to ban people from buying licensed music? It's one thing to question copyright and DRM it's another to not leave people with any option but illegal downloads.
