  2. This is a correct description of current situation. This BTW is not only Germany but we have militant tolerance fighters i.e. antifas that violently act on any sign of 'intolerance' they see. So you hardly can discuss anything in the open these days out of fear to be declared intolerant asshole. This btw includes people making photos of election poster teams to dox them later on and apply private pressure ect. I do not have to agree with some party slogans but that is going far to far. This has also less political effects too and not only in Germany - Rottenham/UK for decades perpetrators were able to abuse children only because people were afraid to involve authorities. Not to be called a racists made dozens of kids victims of abuse. How nice, is it not? To me it looks like great slogans act as a big fetish that removes need to think rationally. It is enough to follow to be good. Destroying lives in a process is just collateral. That is questionable even if you actually protect anybody but you do not. The only persons protected are gang rapists from Rimini and their buddies elsewhere - we look away because we want to avoid thinking and unpleasant discussions. I wanted to be tolerant, open minded, happy citizen too. Instead I feel depressed every time I open newspaper these days.

  3. It is what makes me wonder. At some point my doors will probably get smashed either by right wing radicals because I am not pure enough, by antifa activists because I am not tolerant enough or by authorities because I refuse to decry some shit or other (a mayor of small town in Germany wanted one of his subordinates to resign for not openly decrying Erdogan - yesterday, free speech and free though are not valued resources these days). We live in a world where being correct is more and more difficult, getting upset about others not being correct and making hell out of their lives easier and easier. In the past, Europeans chose to run away to 'America' - where do you run away today to? At the same time you have incidents like in Rottenham/UK. Humans heh...

No it was not - the actual act regulated shape of bananas but not all of them. There are classes of fruits and only one class had shape restrictions. In fact the misrepresentation argument was a misrepresentation itself aka fake facts or whatever these things are called. The other point you had is more to the point of the discussion. You can argue however that GP meant over-regulation causes problems as the shape of banana act. Not sure about that.I do not care about shape of the banana. There are people that do. There are other things that EU did to citizens of EU that are evil and criminal in nature. You take any of the big policies say CAP or CFP - they do not do what they supposed to do supporting in a process corporate leaches and alike. There are good things EU did - trying to force producers to label food properly - this pissed some corporate drones quite a lot (US ones especially). But we have CETA dn TTIP to get over that I suppose. Bottom line is: the argument may be seen false or correct depending on level and point of view. So then again you are right this contributes nothing to the discussion. I agree with that. Please leave banana alone tho. And cucumber too.

  12. no data on that so no estimate possible. I see what I see. It is not absolute, even communists back then could not control all and everything and I do not believe there is any such authority right now not in US. Germany and Sweden (and others) is a different story. It is in any case not limited to US or any other country. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_shaming#Justine_Sacco_incident or surrounding chapters. This was not there before. It is now and is increasing. In politics and media it is this simpleton view Trump==100% badl so people throwing sh. at him are all good that annoys the hell out of me. I dislike feeling that I have to argue for people like this only because the information content is so biased. But that is my view. Be aware of another amplifier that humans being social animals have. The process of finding nazis by web activists after c'ville is a fact. Google has spoken and answer to your question is yes. We are going down this path. As before there were voices for reason and moderation and they were either ignored or people daring have contrary opinions were charged with the same thought crime as the others. In fact communist societies of the not so distant past offer quite nice historical accord as to how that works. There is usually no need for ministry of love at least not as much as Orwell showed in his book. The people do it all by themselves after initial push. There are then gatherings of apartment block committees during which the 'guilty' are found and shamed. At some point it is easier to stand up and point finger to oneself as the punishment may be less harsh if one denounce oneself. The minor abuse of the process for own purposes by some individuals was accepted by authorities of course. This in fact was also the process from which the word terror actually comes from - French Revolution. Denounce and behead - the most efficient policy ever. It has a chance to cover all evil people by removing the term 'false positive' from circulation. Nb the major parties in Germany (general elections in 6 weeks there) all agreed that they will not discuss any contentious subjects not to give 'haters' ammunition. So it works in some places already at the state level.
I have this sick feeling in my guts because of this. Not because I hate people so much (I have a list of individuals and ideologies of course as apparently everybody else). but because that is exactly what I was running away from when I chose to leave my communist society behind. The good thing is the shops are full of goods today. So there are differences. The political taboos have been reintroduced tho. I only hope that this goes away as any mass hysteria eventually does. The problem is - they tend to last shorter only if they are very brutal. Let us see however.
A side thought - if somebody needed to have an argument against google's almost monopoly then this one is best so far.

I used to think like you. Long time ago. You know all this "people are free as long as this does not limit freedom of others' idea. This was when I was studying. Then I learned quite some about the Nazis. I even went on to live the country where the regime once rules. I accepted that there are limits to what we can say. This is now years ago. What I see now is that people claiming to be against oppression and against all the evil things but being as oppressive and close-minded as the nazis and other followers of oppressive ideologies. Now I came back to original thought but I know enough to realize that the density of human populations almost everywhere is so high that freedom of others limits mine so much that I cannot comfortably live. In theory it is possible but in practice this is barely possible. I became very pessimistic about this whole thing. It is just impossible to have tolerance when people you are suppose to tolerate are intolerant about some basic features of yourself and your way of life. It used to be possible to run away from it. Where are unoccupied hills that you can run to these days? So I am pessimistic.

Is that really so? I am not USian so I do not care either way but I cannot escape impression that the rate at which media report on Trump is very high - simple fart is enough to get them hyperventilating. That is not very healthy. It also indicates that a person from outside whenever good or bad is being fought with quite ugly means. This is one thing. The other is the actual choice. If choice is between a person dead bound on challenging Ruskis and an newcomer with conspicuous credentials you may be inclined to decide not to take vote or to vote blank depending on what election system you have. The problem with your proposal is (besides being hindsight fallacy) that by voting for a side you do not support is that you get what you do not support possibly including nuclear war.
I do not have much sympathy for Trump and I do not have much sympathy for Hillary either. I also tend to believe that both of them and the ugly choice USians had last year are a symptom of a deeper problem with politics in USA. It is not unique to USA tho - similar problem with agency and how decisions made by parties may be against will of majority even if rules are followed and when everybody works in good faith etc
