  1. Time to turn the corner... on The New School of Information Security · · Score: 1

The problem with IT security is that the solutions are that of being reactive to problems, and that we're asking for "secure" computing from nontrusted resources. There's never any proactive look at resources and doing proper planning for what sort of problems might develop (at least in my workplace). Project Managers and accountants never like to dole out money for dealing with exploits and issues that "might, in the future, become a hazard," and so the IT team is only rushing around putting out fires instead of fireproofing the place. Security needs to be taken seriously, and in first and foremost consideration, from end point to end point in software/hardware products rather than slapped on almost as an afterthought. Also, We need to do away with concepts like Service Oriented Architectures and Netcentric Warfare. /rant

The reason for that change is probably not because they are looking to bring in contractors, but because it is a Joint Task Force, with all branches of the service giving aid. The navy does not have MP's, it has MA's (master at arms). This was probably an innocent rephrasing made so that its more "joint service" friendly, and so an officer could add another bullet on his OER (officer evaluation report, which gets you promoted or damned) that he "aided in the rwritting of a major military document."

Depends on if you can quantify the value of human life. My basic training alone cost the army $100,000. AIT and airborne school added probably another $50,000. And I'm an army soldier, not one of those firebreathing, door crunching, facemelting MARINES. Until flash cloning(or whatever you want to call it) becomes commonplace, I think the DoD will stick with expending $150,000 robots as Point Man(bot?) instead of waiting for the next batch of soldiers to be grown.

All favorites aside, I think GoW did a marvelous job of getting everything right, and very little wrong. Yes, there are a few bugs and quirks. Overall, however, this is a very polished game and has rightfully earned its crown when compared to the rest of the stuff released these past years. The only thing I can ding it for is storyline, which seems almost blissfully forgotten amid blaring chainsaw massacres and curbstomps.
