I'll start today by throwing away my Linux PC, where I develop my shitty hobbyist games, and just buy a Playstation and a Mac! It will be great, I don't even have to think anymore. Maybe I'll just think about which of the many hot girls that will instantly be throwing at my arms I will hit first. Wo-hooo!!!!

    You mean, like Knuth's TeX?

The intervals between such maintenance periods are increasing, because the systems have been converging to an error-free state. The latest and best TeX is currently version 3.141592 (and plain.tex is version 3.1415926); METAFONT is currently version 2.71828 (and plain.mf is version 2.71). All these systems are Y2K-compliant. My last will and testament for TeX and METAFONT is that their version numbers ultimately become $\pi$ and $e$, respectively. At that point they will be completely error-free by definition. A good way to know about the boot process is to install Linux From Scratch.

I always got annoyed about things that run on my computer that I don't know what it is, and if removing it would break anything. LFS clarified for me many dark-spots about the boot process. I even ran the installed system for almost a year, but it got harder to keep up-to-date with package versions, and I came back to using a normal distro.

Or maybe it could be put more simply like this: How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?

Multivac fell dead and silent. The slow flashing of lights ceased, the distant sounds of clicking relays ended.

Then, just as the frightened technicians felt they could hold their breath no longer, there was a sudden springing to life of the teletype attached to that portion of Multivac. Five words were printed: INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER.
