Me? I used it for 3 years, including a year of bashing the iPhone on its feature set. Now i have an iphone, because even hacking an iphone to run non-approved code and then installing a few apps is easier than finding and installing (and then using) that stuff for windows mobile, even though you don't have to hack it. The interface is terrible. I don't want to use a stylus. I mean, i'm not downright opposed to them, but i shouldn't have to use a stylus to dial a number, and after like 6 failed attempts at trying to dial my parents one night while driving, i decided fuck it, i'm leaving. Unless i was standing completely still, i always had trouble dialing with my fingers. That particular problem is largely hardware related, but the interface doesn't freaking help. Even if i had succeeded in making that call, i would have needed a stylus to turn on bluetooth or speakerphone, etc. That is really annoying when i am trying to do things quickly. Also, i still haven't seen a browser that's better than the iPhone's (though the new opera mobile might come close), but even then, i would have has to wait all this time for this release of opera (the old one wasn't all that great in my opinion).

Oh yeah, and the phone crashed every day, and needed hard resets every few months.

Windows mobile is just shitty and old. Maybe when WM 7 comes out i will feel different, but by then android will be out, or i'll just get a 3G iPhone.

I'm not sure that's true.... It seems to me that if the two objects are just hangin out in space, any force exerted, gravitational or otherwise, would require energy from the tractor craft to maintain. If there is a constant pull between the tractor and the asteroid, that should take just as much energy to maintain as pulling it with a cable would (or pushing it, which isn't as good for the analogy, but more realistic).

Remember, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, even if it's something spooky like gravity.

    Yeah, that's cool.

I certainly love gmail but i can understand why some people would prefer to have their own domain.

My main point was simply that when talking about e-mail clients, lumping gmail in with the other free services, and then calling them all unprofessional, is something i very much disagree with.

Something being free does not immediately make it unprofessional (umm... Linux?), but something being crappy or hokey does, and i consider AOL and hotmail to be crappy and hokey, and therefore unprofessional. Gmail, however, freaking rocks, and is a solid choice for anyone out there, businessperson or not, and i will always look positively on that choice.

I've used groupwise too, and i still like gmail more. What else is there aside from web-based services like gmail, and programs like outlook or groupwise? Because of all those, i still think gmail is king.

Honestly i use my Gmail account for lots of professional things, but scoff if someone uses a hotmail or AOL account. They're very different beasts to me.
Gmail is a very good and tech savvy company, and their e-mail service is top-notch (built-in chat, conversational messaging, filters, easy management of multiple e-mail addresses). AOL is a horrible old company that has no innovation and screws its users, and their e-mail service is piss-poor. If someone sends me an e-mail from AOL, i know they have very low technical standards (because they are willing to put up with the simple features AOL provides, or aren't aware of what else is out there), and if they send one from Gmail, i know they are at least in some way ahead of the curve, or at the very least not behind it...
In fact, i manage our website and server related stuff here at the office, and i have a nice e-mail address with our domain on it and everything, and all it does is go to my gmail (with an automatic tag and highlight saying it's work e-mail, and replies automatically set to reply from that address). Point being, gmail is BETTER than any domain-based mail service.

But i know a lot more than computers.

This all brings up an interesting point though... When you're in an unfamiliar place, but your friend knows the area, they can always tell you where you are, more or less. When machines get good enough to have a complete knowledge of the entire earth down to a sufficient resolution, they WILL be able to look around, anywhere, and tell you where you are, without GPS.

  19. The article sucks on A 30-Picowatt Processor For Sensors · · Score: 3, Interesting

There is some better info farther into the article, but the first thing they say about the chip is rediculous:

"So how did these scientists build this very efficient chip? The answer is extremely simple: they've reduced the battery size. 'Phoenix is the same size as its thin-film battery, marking a major achievement. In most cases, batteries are much larger than the processors they power, drastically expanding the size and cost of the entire system, said David Blaauw, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. For instance, the battery in a laptop computer is about 5,000 times larger than the processor and it provides only a few hours of power.'"

So... they made it more efficient by giving it a smaller battery? That is so obviously backwards... They can give it a smaller battery because it's more efficient, but not the other way around... Or did i miss something? The article certainly doesn't help explain anything more if that is really come clever something-something going on...
